WD Caviar Black 1 TB failing (with S.M.A.R.T. data)

How likely is it that I lost data?

WD Caviar Black 1 TB failing (with S.M.A.R.T. data)

Well, yes. I am testing it in my PC right now. The Mac had a different SATA cable.

WD Caviar Black 1 TB failing (with S.M.A.R.T. data)

It is strange that I have to post this. I have always had good experiences with WD drives, but now I think I might be encountering my first failure. The drive is primarily used in a 2006 Intel iMac (so maybe this is heat related?) and formatted HFS+ until it could barely run fast enough to boot...

Confused about external DACs and LFE

Would downmixing a 5.1 soundtrack to 2.1 be worse than just going with the game's 2.0 soundtrack? I feel like downmixing might alter the way that the audio was meant to be heard.

Confused about external DACs and LFE

Okay, but how do I handle audio that is 2.1? It would just be mixed into the stereo output of the 2.0, right?

Confused about external DACs and LFE

Hm. Maybe since I am a novice what sounds bad to you might sound good to me. I was planning on getting an active subwoofer, by the way.

Confused about external DACs and LFE

Oh... A few points: I did not realize most stereo tracks do not include an LFE channel Most games that output stereo probably do not support 2.1, correct? So, if I want LFE in a 2.1 speaker configuration I would have to have the game output 5.1 and have the Realtek driver mux the rear...

Confused about external DACs and LFE

I have not bought a sub, yet.

Confused about external DACs and LFE

I am going to build a desktop audio setup. I have decided on a pair of Micca MB42X bookshelf speakers and a passive subwoofer. My rig has an Asus P8Z77V LK motherboard, which has on-board Realtek ALC892. My confusion lies within the decision of whether or not to purchase an external DAC...

Conflicting temp readings, which temp is CPU?

Thanks for all the replies! I am pretty sure none of the cores are disable. 'Number of processors' is not checked in boot options. BIOS is updated.

Conflicting temp readings, which temp is CPU?

Hmmm... I never disabled any cores. Here is the CoreTemp reading... shows all cores enabled, correct?

Conflicting temp readings, which temp is CPU?

I'm having trouble deciphering which temp reading is the CPU's? I did some torture testing recently and I'm quite confused. Asus's CPU temps seem to be reported as a lot lower than other programs' reporting... Low load:

Great to know I helped someone. I don't know how HDMI flags work, but its probably Dell's fault. I actually appreciate my S2440L and would recommend it to anyone who works in a dark environment and doesn't mind overdrive.

    Dell S-Line Screens - S2740L, S2440L, S2340M, S2340L, S2240M

Got my S2440L from Amazon today. A few criticisms in short: Reflections don't bother me, yet. But the actual display is set pretty far back from the cover glass. I do not know who to blame, but it is absolutely idiotic. Apparently my Intel drivers classify this thing as a "TV" over HDMI so I'm...
