    I think you're right. I usually pick mobo based on what I need from it. At the moment the cheapest mobo you can find will probably do, but make sure you have enough sata ports for your drives, sata3 if you have sata3 drives, raid support if you need it, maybe a 7.1 sound system, usb3, stuff like...

    Msi wind u90, had one, and it was awesome. Didn't have ssd though. However, acer has released their aspire one series, with a bit better hardware inside, and i beleive they have ssd equipped models, so that would be my choice now.

    tj max of i7 920 is 100 C...and that's MAX...they usually start throttling at a temperature lower then that, 90 degrees for the start of throttling is normal...
