    I think windows 8 is awesome aside from the useless Metro UI. Do away with that and people won't complain. Windows RT has a use for metro ui, not desktop version.

    At that resolution avoid 1gb/gpu cards. Keep an eye on newegg refurbs and open box, there was a 7950 for 300 deal a few days ago.

    Actually that's not true. Air is an excellent insulator, even if you apply too much thermal paste it's a very efficient heat conductor.

    Yup a lot of people thing I'm noob for saying my 5850 @ 1GHz is still pretty good....but it's they who are the noobs. Especially since I bought it for 180 almost 1.5 years ago.

    Headphone amp advice - know any hidden gems?

    I have had many XFIs and their amp circuit is decent though I replaced the opamp. It drove my HD 580s just fine. I would look into a set of used HD 600s or similar, maybe Goldring DR150. Try those with your card first before getting an amp.
