Ah, good to know that the adapter will work, and also why plugging the 6-pin in directly did not work.
The GPU is a GTX titan (original), and the PSU, per HP specs, is a "925W, 90% Efficient Power Supply". Unfortunately there are no specifics beyond this. But seeing that this workstation can...
I have an HP Z640 workstation that has just two 6-pin cables for graphics cards (ugh). I'm looking to put in a GPU that requires a 6 and an 8-pin cable.
How straightforward would it be to just power the GPU from another power supply?
Things that won't work

still, my ideal solution would be scaling based upon pixel pitch, which would obviously require specific hardware information, but then allow for the exact same scale across any given combination of potentially different multi-monitor setups.
my 2 cents, having just bought the monitor
1) great review NCX
2) 3D performance: in my experience, you can actually sit as close to the monitor as you'd like (e.g. even 1-1.5ft away), it's just that your margin for error to avoid crosstalk is much lower.
I was one of the early orderers (see p1), and my status finally just changed to 'packaging' as of 3 hrs ago. Man they nearly had me there
oh wait...ssd is still not in my hands...better not speak too soon!!
Usually I provide myself plenty of headroom on my builds, so I have no idea what I was thinking with this one. Anyway, two computers for my research lab have already been ordered with the following, and I need to know if the Seasonic M12II-620 PSU will be sufficient, as returning it will be a...

Purchased from impulse. Installed their stupid software to get the product code, then activated on steam.
Amazon.com is indeed selling digital copies for 7.50 too
