So.......Microcenter might be worth the drive. They've got the above mentioned I5-2400 in store for $150, and a couple of decent Gigabyte or Asus P67 mobo's that are open box items for under $100.....putting the cpu/mobo combo at only about 15-20 more than the new egg combo for the I3-2105...
I wish I had a microcenter close by. Closest one is like 1.5 hours. I know their in-store deals are killer, it's how I got my I7-950 for $200 back in early fall 2010. *edit* MC has the I3-2125 for $119 in store, and the I5-2400 for $150 in store, but no combo's to be found.
I'm not feeling...
I like NZXT cases for the most part (I have a white H2 Classic that I love) but the Source 210 just doesn't do it for me. I'm exploring cases right now actually.
This is all going to be ordered within 2-3 days tops I would presume.
As for the USB 3.0, I figure screw it. He doesn't use...
TJH, you've pointed me in a good direction. I'm checking combo deals. Already had the Fractal case saved and I'm sticking with the Corsair PSU mentioned above because of the sleeving...... THANK YOU!!!!
Duly noted on everything. Readdressing the Intel processors. Wasn't sure if the Quad AMD would out perform the Dual Intel SB stuff or not.
*Edit* Looking at the 1155 motherboards, there's nothing for a low price that has on board usb 3.0 headers. I don't think he'd be using it, but I'd...
This is for my father in law......his old computer caught a nasty virus and he just wants something new. He was looking at off the shelf stuff but came to me knowing I like to build and figured I could do better for a comparable price. So here's what I'm looking at. After much deliberation...
My 1080 was about 6.5 gigs and looks amazing, no discernable difference from the 23 gig uncompressed file. The 720 file was about 3.25 gigs and really, almost as good. I was hard pressed to see any difference. These were both viewed on my 42" 60hz 1080p LCD.
I'm stumped. I'm using Handbrake and MakeMVV to copy my blu Ray collection to my computer. I rip using MakeMKV without any issue and only rip the main movie, audio, and forced subtitles. Here's where it gets odd.
Handbrake is giving me FITS using the following settings: Preset High...
I've been running the H80 with stock fans on my I7 950 since October. Overclocked it last week, got it nice and stable at 4.0 gigs (191x21) and my temps are great IMO. Running 35-38 idle (core dependent) and on Prime95 tops out at about 68*C. Can't complain at all. No noises, fans are...
I had a hard time mounting my drives into the H2 also. I finally got it, but they were indeed a PITA. I love the case though, overall it's been awesome for me.
That's pretty much what I figure, and the PERC 6i seems to be holding it's own especially at the price point it can be found. Just have more reading to do. Won't be rebuilding the system for at least two more weeks....
Good news is that with the move to intel I'll have everything I need for a...
I was expecting to get a lot closer to 1 gb read speeds......what I have should just about make it, it's a couple hundred short right now IMO.
It'll be a hardward controller if I go that route, not a software......still researching and waiting for memory and mobo to come in so I can test out...
My exact reason too. I thought the 1090T would perform better, but I see the light. :D
My buddy made an interesting note though. Back when the AMD processors were king of the hill a few years ago, they were constantly changing sockets and Intel was sticking with far fewer socket changes...
Haven't owned an Intel processor in my desktop since I sold my circa 2001 Dell Dimension 8100 last year with it's blazingly fast first gen Pentium 4 at 1.3 ghz.
In the past month, I've gone from an AMD Phenom 9850 that I did a build around last year, to a 1090T when I found out it fit my...
Thought I'd update this. No more tweaks. I'm in the process of swapping to an i7 950, 12x GB memory (ddr3), and an Asus Rampage II GENE. Going to see how the ICH10 performs, and then probably move to a dedicated RAID card (PERC 6i or the like) if I'm still not happy. Couldn't do that on my...
