Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.
Try playing with the -d flags for smartmontools, maybe you can force it into SAT mode, or try forcing an ATA command (hoping the JBOD has passthrough of those), that may net you more information.

It also depends on if you're powering your disks from a backplane or not.
All standard SATA power connectors (from your PSU) will ground pin 11. This will more or less make sure they DON'T stagger.
Most backplanes will leave Pin 11 floating or high, which will indicate to the drive that it...
There are a lot of "vendor specific" comments in the SATA specification with regards to activity lights and staggered spin-up. If I'm reading it correctly it can either support staggered spin-up OR activity indication, however that doesn't make much sense and I doubt anyone follows that...
They mean Pin 11 on the SATA POWER connector, not the DATA connector.
Pin 11 is an interesting pin. It is commonly used to manage staggered spin-up of drives in backplanes. (Not all though, some drives support it by commands only, and some don't support it at all).
If pin 11 is high or...
Ah, I just realized that its an LSI 9220-8i flashed to IT firmware, although it should effectively be an IBM m1015? Maybe there are minor differences?
It is also attached to an HP port expander.

I run FreeBSD and use this script i found somewhere as a daemon: http://pastebin.com/AwAiTK2P
It basically forces a spindown using camcontrol after X minutes.
Works for me, but I had to make sure any "status reporting" script that uses smartctl uses the "-n standby" flag in order not to wake...
Hi
Trying to flash my IBM M1015.. unfortunately my motherboard requires me to use the EFI version of the flash utility.
Tried to download it from LSI... zip file downloads fine, but the efi flash utility is replaced by a text file saying this:
FILE QUARANTINED
Microsoft Forefront...
I got a CTM-1042SAS (4x 2.5" in a 5.25" slot) and stuck it to the left side and bottom of the case (inside) next to my mobo, with doublesided tape. Its not going anywhere.
Mounted it 2cm from the rear end of the case so I can still plug in the SATA cables and I can access the hotswap trays...
Have an ARC-1280ML... need some new drives, but unfortunately the Hitachi 5K3000's are out the question... they're either not available or twice as expensive as anything else here in Sweden.
Usage is media storage and RAID-5 or RAID-6.
Have these choices:
WD Caviar Green 2TB - WD20EARX
Seagate...
That could work... the AC connection is a bit dangerous though.. totally exposed screws :(
The other external thing only has 2A on 5v and 12v (either combined or separate, don't know), which isn't enough..
