The WD1000FYPS is the proper drive for use with RAID controllers. I am aware of the issue, but in my case when used alone the drive miserably failed SMART tests.
It is as simple as this, defective drive.
But thank you.
I recently purchased (2) 1TB enterprise drives from WD, put them in RAID 0 for a media server and the array kept "going away".
So last night I called WD and got off-shore tech support which was less than useless and they did not even seem to want to help.
This morning I called WD...

It may have been ten years ago but I replaced MB and CPU, I changed from AMD to Intel, keeping all the hard drives. I have been using NT4 for OS.
Anyway I just booted and NT "found the new hardware" and just asked me to reboot only once then ran like a champ.
You may have to call Bill...
I will not tell others how to set up their PC but I will tell you how I set up my physical drives.
Disk 0 - WD Raptor 150 GB (2) partitions - 110 Gb for Vista 64 & apps - 40 GB for install (store drivers and mini apps)
Disk 1 & 2 - 750 GB each - media server
Disk 3 - 750 GB - backup...
Trying to be helpful, not a smart asp.
I have a QX9650 running 3.8 right now. I like it.
I just set the FSB up to 1700 and the CPU goes to 3.8.
What I like the best is that the bios automatically enabled super step when I OC'ed and normally the CPU trips along nice and cool at a 2.4...
I have been shopping for 1 TB drives for a RAID media server and the thought occurred to me: 1TB drives have been out now for a long while.
Why buy several 1 TB size now when something larger is over due?
So I searched the net looking for info on larger drives to be released this year and...
> damn that sounds like a hell of a system.......
My dad is getting up there in age. Dont know how many more years Ill have him. Last system I put together for him a few years ago was an all-nighter. It was an Intel 3.0 HT with a new cable modem, he was on dial up before that.
So as I...
I used the stock Intel cooler which is unique to the Extreem edition, and used the stock Intel paste, not AS.
Compressing video is CPU intensive. I don't remember the temps but after a short time the CPU got too warm and the clock speed went south. For my dad it does not matter.
My point...
An Intel question if I may?
I have a 3.8 Intel OCd to 4.0. It works well in a multitasking XP OS with hyperthread. When I am working and some other process kicks in the CPU allocates it self well and applications dont seem to suffer to great a performance hit.
I just built a new PC for...
Koolance makes less noise than the Zalman and at least takes the heat out of the case. Still it is like a hot plate left on in my office.
Reading elsewhere, I might be able to plug a quad core in to my existing MB?
Other rumors - Intel will go water cooling?
I do a fair bit of video compression work. I have a water cooled 3.8 Mhz over clocked to 4.0 Mhz.
It runs hot as hell when the CPU is 100% for a few hours at a time. The system is now about 18 months old.
I dont need a system 5% faster than what I have, I want a system about 10 times...
