    Laptop Experiences

    I work will Dell’s mostly, D4/6/800's and M60's and haven’t had too many problems with them, DELL service is not too bad either. Personally I have an Emachine M5100 2+ years now and have had no problems with it. About the only down side would be the battery life. :cool:

    System Event ID 1001

    The problem is that when it is connected to the network the event log fills up with these DHCP errors (event id 1001) every 5-7 mins. As far as I can see the LT is working fine but the user wants to know what these errors are or the laptop replaced as he is convinced it is a hardware fault...

    Network browsing issue

    I have herd that the following hotfix (KB885250) has been known to affect file shareing on some files and not others. I think its bundled ito SP2 I'm not 2 sure. As for removing it.........someone else might know how to do it but not me......sorry.

    Yea, I had a look at eventid.net, a few hints but no solutions. One hint was the router may not be processing the DHCPREQUEST quick enough, I might get some stats from the router and have a look at the traffic going through.

    Check the share properties and make sure that they are propagating to the child folders. Any security issues/restriction on the shares?

    Unable to assign a static IP, LT is used on different subnets (roaming), I'll pick it up and do some NW diags on it for a day or so, it may be a NIC prob or no prob at all. Thanks

    I've already had a look at the switch and it seems fine. Like you said, I would'nt worry about it but the user is banging my ear about these event logs. Perhaps I should just take it off him for a week or so for 'Testing'. Thanks for you help.....

    DELL Latitude D600 LT, DHCP network via managed switches. Logs onto the networks OK but constant errors in the event log (1001). A little slow at times logging in. IPCONFIG /renew takes its time and returns with the same IP. Other PC's / LT appear fine. os- w2k.
