Any Ideas?

EventID: 1001
"Your computer was not assigned an address from the network (by the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address XXXXXXXX(MAC address). The following error occured:
The semaphore timeout period has expired. . Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server."
 
it sounds like you have a network address configured to connect to an internal network (prob. a router) via DHCP.

either, the NIC is screwing up, the router is screwing up, or your NIC is misconfigured and you have no need of DHCP.

tell us what the hell your network set-up is like.

 
DELL Latitude D600 LT, DHCP network via managed switches.
Logs onto the networks OK but constant errors in the event log (1001). A little slow at times logging in. IPCONFIG /renew takes its time and returns with the same IP. Other PC's / LT appear fine. os- w2k.
 
if you can still connect / use the internet i wouldn't worry about it.

maybe check your router settings for something funky like an "Allow Only" list that your laptop isn't on?

 
I've already had a look at the switch and it seems fine. Like you said, I would'nt worry about it but the user is banging my ear about these event logs. Perhaps I should just take it off him for a week or so for 'Testing'.

np, sorry i couldn't actually fix the problem =\

maybe someone smarter will come along (they tend to :eek: :p)

 
Assign a static IP and call it a deal.
If you have more than one network card in the machine, disable the unused ones.
 
Unable to assign a static IP, LT is used on different subnets (roaming), I'll pick it up and do some NW diags on it for a day or so, it may be a NIC prob or no prob at all.

Yea, I had a look at eventid.net, a few hints but no solutions. One hint was the router may not be processing the DHCPREQUEST quick enough, I might get some stats from the router and have a look at the traffic going through.
 
??? If you're using a laptop and it's connected to a network, and you remove it from the network, it will not be able to obtain an IP address when the DHCP lease expires. It's expected behavior... how is this a problem??? :confused:
 
The problem is that when it is connected to the network the event log fills up with these DHCP errors (event id 1001) every 5-7 mins. As far as I can see the LT is working fine but the user wants to know what these errors are or the laptop replaced as he is convinced it is a hardware fault. Nothing worse that a user with just enough knowledge to piss you off!!
Its not actually effecting the user, they just want an answer.
Anyhow I've got the LT for 'Testing' for a few days, I'll just do some benchmarking and give it a once over to tidy it up and give it back to them with some BS.
