    i7 950, When should I upgrade?

    I upgraded my i7 950 setup to the ivy bridge stuff. To make a long story short I sold that ivy bridge stuff for my OC'd 950 setup (4.0 ghz) since I could not tell any difference. Until I feel the processor is slowing me down, I wouldn't worry about upgrading!

    Are you open to the idea of buying used parts (besides the case and HD)? I'd save some money and see if I can pick up a nice 1156 I5/i7 combo on the forums. You can pick up the video card, ram etc too for much cheaper than new!

    System unstable, occasion reboots.

    Overclocking my i7-950

    I had a couple i7's I over clocked. Make sure to turn off all the intel goodies (C1E, EIST etc). Make sure boost is enabled to get access to the higher multiplier. You should be able to get to about 4.0ghz at stock volts. The 2 I had I ran at 20 x 200 at 1.185v on air.
