I'm looking for a Kindle DX because of its large e-ink screen. If there's any bezel choice I'd pick graphite.
Salvage Laptop
I'm interested in an Intel quadcore system in poor condition of any brand, as long as it "works" with an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse.
i5 or i7 quadcore cpu (eg...
It is a case modding part, it is beyond like adding more ram. I did it the way I did it because it was the least expensive. A USB external which happens to be slot load only cost me $20 vs an $80+ drive listed as a "laptop replacement part." The rep points out that you can buy the adapter, while...
I bought an external USB samsung slot load drive SE-T084M. I harvested the drive from the case and connected it to sata. It uses mini sata for power, so you'll need an adapter. I got the adapter by cutting it from my spare antec isk300 and soldering a molex to the end of it. I left the face...
Crimp, soldering, heatshrink, twist caps, whatever you want to do to make your own cable. Each pin is rated for ~10-13A and each wire ~16-22A. With four wires you could carry over 700W. I haven't done this specific mod myself, but I keep the connectors from dead power supplies to do things like...
I recently just played through the original stalker again using the complete mod. Replaying the old ones is still fun. I signed up for the Survarium alpha when I was trying to see if there were any simple coop mods for stalker.

Those RocketFish...
I would say that's a RocketFish as well. It looks like a PC-A71B lacking its front door and hinge brackets because someone removed them to suit their window mod. That case did not have external 3.5" bays, but the RocketFish did.
If that's absolutely what I needed I would do that. Heatgun or solder suck. There's no silicon or some package involved so it can't really go wrong. Just don't melt the plastic. Digikey or mouser may have black or other colors.
That'd be the answer. DC-DC is more efficient. If anyone can find such a device meant for their laptop. It would provide a boost from 12V to 19V for several amps. The laptop can't be directly plugged into the car's 12V because it is not a constant voltage (alternator) and not high enough voltage...
