This was also with auto fan control - bumping up the fan on GPU1 to see what's what.

I'm wondering what others' idle temps are in Crossfire for GPU1... I've read of the other pins being absent but never of any significant issues - but then again these setups have only been running a day or so. Perhaps they will overheat if temps aren't monitored.

Successfully flashed 2 XFX 6950 cards to the Sapphire 6970 bios with the batch file included in the techpowerup zip file (so a subsystem ID error with the GUI utility). I flashed them individually with one card in at a time to avoid any potential issues. One strange thing - GPU1 is idling...

Thanks.... I was seeing the benefits of the increased RAM here and there in reviews but it looks like that's the main thing for these super resolutions. Can't wait for the Crossfire review on here.

I'm running currently 2x 5850's in CF, 3x 24" monitors in Eyefinity. Would I see noticeable performance gains in CF with dual 6870's? Or should I wait to see how 6950's stack up in comparison? Looks like the former option will be around $100 cheaper.
