RTings early review is out if you have a sub. They give it 8.8/10 for out of the box colour accuracy in game optimiser mode which is pretty good if you cbf calibrating it.

Yes, I'll be avoiding greentoe which only has a 24 hour return window and can be problematic with returns compared to other places. Best Buy's subscription can optionally be started and kept temporarily, giving you a 60 day return window instead of their 15 day return window. LG Partner store has a 14 day return policy (with all original packaging, etc). Greentoe is a good deal on paper - if - you want to roll the dice, because they are considerably lower priced combined with the fact their offer prices include tax, and our sales taxes here are almost 9%.

Considering the panel lottery reports, I'll wait it out at BB most likely even if toward end of the year.

$30 seems like a decent deal considering. 1% of, say a $1200 sale on a tv, is $12 just for the TV so you would already have knocked the $30 down to $18 just with the tv purchase, depending how you look at it.

I had a sam's club membership years ago that i used for a vizio 70" FALD tv (32 zone, pretty lame by today's standards). The sam's warranty was included and was overall a good deal so I get where you are coming from. They are building a few costco stores around here right now but they have never been here before. At this point I don't think I'm interested in buying another OLED with a white sub pixel. RGB is long over due, just looking at a grey screen on this compared to a prior QD-OLED I had just made me scratch my head at how we've accepted this for like half a decade.

If your games run with stable enough performance it shouldn't be visible, other than during loading screens and the occasional traversal/shader stutters in some games.

That or VRR is not actually enabled, then it will never flicker. Which is the more likely answer.

I just got around to watching that whole article that I had saved for later on my youtube app.

I'm glad I wasn't satisfied with the PQ on the gx950a, to my sensibilities, and returned it ahead of this quite awhile ago now, 10 days after I bought it.

I have a LG 48CX at my main rig, and a C1 in my living room. I used to just rely on blocking them at my router, then enabling the display's (wired) internet connection to check for fw updates once in awhile. At some point I decided to unplug them entirely and just do FW updates via usb manually, because LG could be banking the data locally and upload it during that window of time even if I only allow the internet connection to check for and install a fw update over the line occasionally.

I've been following LG C6, G5, and G6 threads on avsforum and the C6 thread here, and I had narrowed it down to being serious about getting LG 48" C6 later this year - but at this point I might switch to a 55" Samsung QD OLED, idk. I don't like matte, especially on OLEDs. Also, samsung, sony, TCL , etc have also been known to harvest data in the past so not sure if it's 100% avoidable as a set trap in devices. Whatever I get I'll keep disconnected, and I did the "block software installation" registry method outlined in that video on my windows gaming PC, too - since just connecting the display cable is enough for windows to auto install the system app that installs spy app(s) on a pc.

I use a highly rated security suite, a separate vpn, I have a really good router setup, and I'll keep my display devices disconnected from the internet - so overall I should be able to avoid this kind of thing, but on principle alone I think I have to rule out LG. It's shame because I love glossy and samsung is all matte now. Maybe I'll start looking at the sony Bravia 8 II, which is glossy. It's "only" 120hz tv but I could make do with that my pc. The 144hz and 165hz modes in the modern LG gaming TVs may be somewhat half-baked anyway. They have have had some color issues at those rates on some models, and at least on the C6, the higher Hz rates apparently make VRR flicker on middle grays abysmal according to RTings (scored a 1 out of 10 on the 48" C6, with 10 being the best).

It just depends. Majority of the time I'm not seeing any VRR flicker either, but on a rare occasion it's unavoidable.

42" + RGB = massive brightness nerf. By the time we get a 240Hz C series that can do 1000+ nits without the white subpixel in 42" form factor, monitors will just as bright.

I'm thinking that a true large format flagship screen won't come out until late 2027 or sometime in 2028. I hope one does, anyway. The 45" 800R seems like the last one for some time out of any roadmaps I've heard about. Manufacturers have all sized down So between what you just said and the outlook for large format flagship monitors / made~for~pc~screens, it might be a while. HDMI 2.2 in 240Hz tvs might show up at some point, and even if nvidia doesn't have hdmi 2.2, a dp 2.1 to hdmi 2.2 adapter could get enough bandwidth for it.

It's bottom of the charts when it comes to HDR. I'll admit I'm wrong, that white subpixel does all the heavy lifting and lets the LG top the charts. But I don't want to deal with the other issues it comes with.

I had google extrapolate that table. Take specific numbers with a grain of salt as it's an AI aggregate scraped from multiple sites (with RTings probably doing most of the heavy lifting). Thanks. I decided to get it from bestbuy when it dips a bit more, and I'll probably get the $30/yr membership plan (they lowered from $50 a year) so that I'll have 60 days to return it no problem. Hopefully I won't have to but I definitely will return one or more if I have to. The fact that I won't be connecting the included stand at all might make it a little easier to break down and pack up if I need to as well.

Plus if you get their bb credit card and the membership plan you add their % back rewards , 5% + 1% for 6%, which at least would cover 2/3 of the tax here depending how you look at it. $1200 tv would give ~ $70 in best buy credit for future purchases, so maybe put that towards a xmas present for someone or something. The points / "reward certificates" expire in 60 days, but If you have their credit card, you change your settings to bank your points and they won't expire.(unless you fail to use the card for 2 whole years, where they close the account).

You could use the same desk and just get a freestanding tv stand, the kind with a single pole/rail/post so that you can decouple the screen from the desk completely. Such stands come with a heavy flat foot which is more low profile and slips under things easier, or there are options with a larger base that has caster wheels. There are also a few that have a slim rectangular flat foot + mini caster wheels. Then you just make a gap between the existing desk and the screen and can fine tune the distance exactly how you want.. Bonus is that if you ever bump the desk, it never wobbles the screen anymore. If you ever entertain that idea, just make sure the model you get goes low enough, some have a tall limit. I understand it's not for everyone though as it ends up being a larger overall footprint for your setup in a room.

I view my 48" screen just like in the diagram, from at least 36" away on it's own stand. I typically use it with a 40" view distance most of the time though.

A 48" screen isn't in your human central viewing angle until it's 36 inch to 48 inches away from your eyeballs, where it gets 64 to 77 PPD.

At worst, on a 48" 4k screen I'd do 64 deg, 60 PPD which is around 34 inch view distance - (screen surface to eyeballs, not desk depth). It pushes things a few degrees outside of the sweet spot but not too bad.
On a 48" 16:9 screen, it's not in your human central viewing angle until somewhere between 36" and 45" view distance. Besides viewing angles, anything below 60 PPD isn't really what I expect to get from "4k" pixel detail so would be bad to me on that metric alone. Also, the sides, and like you said, the height goes outside of your "normal" viewing angles so the ergonomics are bad plus the pixels outside of the sweet spot are off axis which causes problems with uniformity and distortion. Plus, for some people, viewing more toward or at a 50 deg viewing angle (width, and the accompanying height) might be more to their liking, because people's eyesight in regard to their central viewing angle, and their personal tastes, vary from person to person.

Any 4k screen of any size when viewed within the human central viewing angle of 60 to 50 degrees gets the same 64 to 70 PPD and the same viewing angles (including height). It's just a matter of viewing distance. To your perspective, any screen of any size within the human central viewing angle will have the same perceived height and width in how much it takes up your viewing angles, both horizontal and vertical, in degrees. Putting a gaming tv or other large format screen on it's own pillar type tv stand, small hutch, or other mount instead of right on your desk like sheet music on an upright piano, is a good way to achieve that distance if you are able or willing to use enough space.

The gap you'd need behind a 24" deep desk for a 48" 16:9 screen would be as follows, maybe less depending where your actual eyeballs are compared to the near edge of your desk.

34" (64deg, 60 PPD) to 36" (60 deg, 64 PPD) = 10" to 12" gap

40" (55 deg, 70 PPD) = 16" gap <<<< what I typically use

45" (50 deg, 77 PPD) = 21" gap

10 to 12" gap between the far edge of a slim 24" deep desk and a screen isn't bad really if you have the space to design your pc layout around it. For a 32" deep desk it would be a (4" to) 6" gap behind the desk for the short end (64 deg to) 60 deg viewing angle. Like I said, I use around 40" view distance from my 48" 4k screen. With my scenario, 48" view distance, 4 feet, would be my max limit layout wise for any screen.

Even with a 42" 4k screen, the central human viewing angle of 60 to 50 deg is 32 inch to 39 inch view distance. If your 48" screen was at 32 inch view distance, would NOT be within the human 60 to 50 degree central viewing angle, but a 42" screen could be, going by the desk edge at 32", or nearly so if the stand made the screen sit forward from the edge a few inches.

42" screen's 60 to 50 deg horizontal viewing angle at 32 inch to 39 inch viewing distance, but like I said, some people's human vision -> central viewing angle (horizontal but that includes how it also affects height to your perspective) is more toward or at 50 degrees horizontal. I'd probably be viewing a 42" screen from 35 inch view distance, 55 deg , 70 PPD, which would be a 11" gap between my 24" inch deep desk and the screen, depending (3" to 5" gap behind a 32" or 30" deep desk). Even if I sat nearer to around 32" view distance for some games, I'd definitely plan the layout and space for at least a 3 foot viewing distance screen surface to eyeballs on a 42" screen, personally, epsecially since my stand and my desk are both on caster wheels, so it's easy to adjust the distance to get it where I want it.
