S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2: Heart of Chernobyl

Oh, yeah, I did that questline. I actually didn't realize it was part of the update because I was around that area anyway and I didn't find out until later that it was only from the update.

Very cool questline and gives a good base location afterwards.
I didn't like going to the Burnt forest or the Duga, there were no real bases besides Cordon which was a hike, Zalissya was pretty much useless later in the game.

I think something in my game broke, because when I went back to Zalissya for the first time in like 20+ hours, almost everyone there was dead, including the tech and guide, lol.

That happened to me also in my first play through, after defending Zalissya from the Monolith, you have to complete two side quests given to you, if you don't do both the base will fall with everyone dead.

Think I'll go ahead and start this one this weekend as the engine update seems a ways off and want to play this.

Is there a quick console code to add money if needed? Seemed like that was a complaint some months back as things were a bit too expensive for buy/resell value, not sure if they changed it. Original STALKER got a bit too many resources in the end where I would often have to drop scavenged ammo but it seems like STALKER 2 was the opposite.

Carry and sell as many weapons as you can, there is a number of artifacts that can help you with weight as well.

I would just get a mod that reduces repair costs, that's probably easier. Though to be fair, I used that for my first playthrough and ended up with a ton of money, so maybe it doesn't need to be tweaked too much...

I think the early game is just a bit more sparse with money, but that's like a lot of games of this type. By the end you are rich.

I see this one, though not sure if compatible with the newest build (V1.8?). Will see how things go without the mod up front, but will look to install a mod if things become too much of a pain.

So it looks like you still cannot sell or scrap red conditioned guns. Have amassed a big stockpile of them already. :ROFLMAO:

I will say that so far, the game runs quite smooth, especially for a UE5 game. I am not getting much if any stuttering. The town areas drop frame rates a lot but frame generation smooths it out to be playable. Maybe it gets worse in other parts of the map but I am impressed with the lack of stuttering even if the frame rate itself drops in certain areas.

I would try this one - this worked for me. Plus you can adjust carry weight and stuff too.

https://www.nexusmods.com/stalker2heartofchornobyl/mods/410?tab=files

For some reason this one does not seem to work.

Have each of the folders in the following directory:

Stalker2\Content\Paks\~mods

With only 1 file for the Longer Days 2, Repair Cost & Carry Weight. Also placed the "fomod" folder there in the ~mods folder, not sure if that is correct?

Carry weight still seems to be the default (80 if I recall).

Edit: With/without the mod I cannot seem to spring anymore. No matter what I remove from the inventory, I cannot sprint. I have to revert to an old save to sprint. Any fix for this?

Never mod your first playthrough. And it might not be your first. Just saying.

Should work - make sure you are only selecting one file per folder, or none if you don't want that functionality. Delete the other files. I use Vortex to manage my mods and I think it gives you the choice there. I know it was working for me in the latest patch, so it must be something on your end.

Also, eventually you do run into a trader who will buy red guns, but that's a bit later in the game.

For this game I disagree. Or at least let me say this - try it vanilla, then seek out mods when various things annoy you to the point of wanting to quit playing.

Tried it without Vortex. Just had 1 file per type. For some reason it didn't work. And I could not get my character sprinting again, issue happened before I tried the mod. Saw something about leaning being able to fix it but I had no luck. Went to the doctor in the 1st town thinking there was a limp due to injury, they said they could not fix anything. Healed, drank energy drinks, slept, ate, dropped all inventory. Nothing worked. Reverted about 1 1/2 hours back in game time when my character was running again. Any idea if there is a mechanic that I missed that would prevent sprinting?

Have removed the mods folder for now and will try it some more without mods. Not being able to sprint was painfully slow.

Everything else aside, I am pleasantly surprised with how smooth this game runs on my setup. I was expecting a stuttering mess like most UE5 games. I'm struggling to see any notable stuttering. Now I'm quite interested to see what they can do with a the UE build.

Weird, because none of those mods modify anything about sprinting or stamina. I haven't experienced any of those issues before. Almost seems like something else was going on, but I'm not sure what.

I've also used this mod, which can help with the weight: https://www.nexusmods.com/stalker2heartofchornobyl/mods/1668

Going to try it again today. The weight limit is just a bit too much, I don't like having to run back to the stash all the time.

There's also a Backpacks mod that adds progressively better backpacks you can buy/find to let you carry more.

Got it working today. Honestly makes the game a whole lot less annoying. Did 110, 30 over the default 80. Also decreased repair costs. Makes the game take less time but still not loaded with cash that much. Seems better balanced, IMO.

Or you can get the artifacts that increase weight carrying ability, one of the best ones being weird water which grants +40kg, I made it a point to hunt down the best artifacts in the game.

Nice! The backpacks mod is also cool in that it adds other wearable stuff, like armor plates or hydration packs, which affect your character in other ways as well.

I have one that does a modest increase. Some backpacks can be upgraded as well, was keeping one with + 2.7kg for a long time but now it is just not enough protection. There is another one for sale that can be upgraded (Ecologist suit) but costs more than I have, even if I sold the 2-3 extra suits I found. :p Found an M14 to but now that is not for sale in the shop. Well, have the SVD still.

Will look into that.

Two of the best suits in the game are the Diamond exoskeleton which you will find in Yaniv, and the PSV-91 Falcon found in Malachite. You can find the Seva-D suit early on in the cement factory zone, it's also a very good suit.. There are other suits you can find, but those three are probably the best in the game, also which I mainly used.

I would also recommend Better Stamina Usage (Longer Sprinting - Stamina Overhaul) which works with the Longer Days - Carry Weight - Repair Cost mod. I decided to try a quest that was miss-able if you progress the story but that meant walking across the zone. 30 minutes later I realized I was in no way interested in spending 1 hour + slow walking across the map being ambushed along the way. Installed the 8 times stamina mod, still took 15 minutes to get to my location. Will move it back down to something else (maybe 4 times), but now I don't need to wait 4 seconds for stamina to recover to slash a box open with my knife or jump once when you need to jump 10-15 times to get over an obstacle.

Not really sure why the default stamina is so low. If you start carrying even a bit of stuff your character gets loaded down and makes doing the jump puzzles a huge pain with the long delay between jumps. Still takes a while to run even with higher stamina from point A to B, just shortens it to reasonable levels IMO.

Have you played any of the Stalker series before this, if you did you would remember that your character starts off with the bare minimum and you develop it over the course of the game. Better suits, weapons and artifacts that help with things like protection from elements, stamina and sprinting, backpack weight increase and more. I posted the game guide previously, it explains everything you need to know. The game is loaded with artifacts that can help you, just keep in mind that many give off radiation that will eventually kill you, so you need a suit that you can upgrade to leaded containers.
If you have made to the base garbage, the first good suit you can acquire is in the cement factory zone and called the Seva-D, which you can upgrade with lead containers at the cement factory base, it's all on the map I posted. Good luck!

This.
I played the game vanilla the first time and yeah it was a bitch, but it's Stalker, that's how the games are. Once you get the good suits and artifacts it's gravy. Stamina, weight and radiation resistance all goes up massively if you play the game right.

The QoL mods and weight, money and weapon mods have people turning the game into FO4 on their very first play through.

The devs were right about people not being able to handle this game back when it launched..

You can run through all of the maps in SoC in the time it takes you to get to a quest in STALKER 2. The traversal time between places in STALKER is just crazy. And you'll fight the same shallow, respawning encounters. It isn't awful but carry weight & stamina mods are a must for this game IMO. If you want to go off the beaten path, you'll need to spend about an hour or two just walking. It is decent so far but it got infected with Ubisoftitous.

Everyone is welcome to mod their game as they see fit.

However, the game as it is vanilla is the intended experience, and modding it in ways such as load/stamina/etc is changing the game and their vision of how it is intended to feel and play.
One of the main reasons you should never mod a game until after a first play unless it is to fix game breaking bugs that are not addressed - so you see the experience as designed and intended, positives and negatives.

Nothing wrong with it, but food for thought on those who dont understand reluctance to suggest mods.

Well, you can play it any way you want to, but when you start adding mods and changing the way it's supposed to be played it's no longer Stalker, it's something else.

One other thing I was thinking of, if you mod Stalker or really any game mostly, you risk those mods being broken when patches are released, meaning any saves you have will be broken also and no longer work causing you to have to start over. It's best to turn off automatic updates so that doesn't happen.

It only takes a few hours to figure out it is nothing more than an Ubisoft inspired length padding. The game is very grindy, and it doesn't really change anything from a gameplay standpoint. The difference is it takes 10 minutes to walk somewhere rather than 45-50.

Putting some minor weight/stamina mods makes it play more like the original STALKER games. Still the problem is it suffers typical open world game design issues, in that most encounters are small meaningless and not very fun ambush style encounters that you'll memorize after running through the areas a few times. Less unique and interesting setups/areas to fight in. It isn't horrible and there are still some good parts but they are few and far between. This is a common issue with many open world games. The distance to travel becomes so long that they have to litter it with bland fights/encounters that offer no real room for approaching a situation. There isn't any sense of equipping stuff and packing to enter some underground lab or dangerous area, 80% of the fights are just random bandits or mutants running around in the open. Again, typical shortcoming of open world design.

I don't know but it seems we played two different games, I played the game four times to get all four endings and every time it was different content, especially the ending missions. I found the zone to be a living breathing world full of horror, I hated getting attacked by bloodsuckers, especially at night. I played all the original Stalker games and this one didn't disappoint. But it's not for everybody, some people love it while others find it's not for them, and that's okay too.

Some of you guys are modding to make the game easier and play more casual. I'm in the opposite camp. I want a Misery/Anomaly experience. The stock game was already too easy to me. Money is too easy to obtain in this game. You can get filthy rich just farming artifacts. I want something more hardcore. Something more brutal. The more memorable parts of my Misery playthroughs were during the hobo phase. Following around fellow Stalkers and looting whatever they kill. The best adventures are the unscripted ones.

The only real "difficulty" in STALKER 2 is holding W or E or pressing J and then moving your cursor over to drop or pick something up. I have a different idea of what a difficult game is. Constant mashing the same button with no consequences or thought doesn't make a game difficult to me. The only difference is quite literally, you press/hold W for a longer period of time to cross 800 meters. I don't really consider those types of "mechanics" to be difficulty, just time padding. Out smarting enemies, or using quick reflexes (it is a shooter) or combing elements - that is difficulty. Holding the walk button really isn't difficultly to me. It also contradicts the exploration aspect as you're not going to want to explore if it takes 15-30 minutes just to slow walk somewhere on a map, or drop all your money/equipment each time you want to go off the beaten path. There is also just some outright truly atrocious map design. So many areas are constantly blocked off by walls/vertical elevation or swamp water that require you to run 5-20 minutes around (without weight/stamina mod, probably closer to 12-50 minutes). This is common with game designers these days, just make things big but don't understand if you map a large area and make exploration part of the game it has to be practical. A 10 minute side quest drags on for an hour and that is just bad game design.

Bloated map size with little to do between long distances has its draw backs. CoP had some excellent hub design.

You're not wrong, but for me it comes down to QOL and how I want to be able to play the game. I don't have a ton of time each day to play a game, so if I can install some mods that improve QOL and save me some time so I can get to the meat of the game quicker, I'm going to do that.

Also, it can change a frustrating experience that may cause someone to stop playing the game entirely, into something enjoyable.

Very much how I feel about games in general these days. Wandering off the beaten path on your own can be fun, but when they make you run 800 meters here for 2 minutes of gameplay, and then run another 600 meters for another 3 minutes, it gets a bit old and is forced.

Outside of some minor bugs that is really my only major complaint with the game. I find it much more grindy by default than the original games. In SoC I was overflowing with guns and ammo the first time I played it, I did not have an issue getting anything gameplay wise. There were a few times I had to do some trips for the Psi emitter to carry/sell guns for extra cash, but still, that look less time.

I honestly find it (in vanilla state) to be more grindy and less respectful of my time than GAMMA, which is meant overall to be a more difficult experience. At least in GAMMA you have way more stamina and the world is way more populated.

I also don't recall the original STALKER games to be that difficult or grindy. STALKER 1 maybe was a bit up front but about 40% through the game I was always so overloaded with stuff and I had zero issue upgrading. In STALKER 2 it seems like you would never get to experience the upgrades for 90% of the things, as a single upgrade or repair will cost you what you make in 2-3 story missions. STALKER SoC I would constantly be dropping ammo and whatnot especially towards the end of the game. Getting an upgraded exoskeleton was not hard at all. CoP was better balanced and played nicely on release, SoC and CS had some issues with some areas.

I still like STALKER 2. It is just so grindy by default, with oddly long walking distances. I finished a side quest last night that was 95% walking.
