2025 6th Annual Folding Challenge (Jan 24 - 31)

I updated one or two and am not really impressed with the UI elements. Many of my systems are still on a 7.xx version. is there any real benefit in performance on Windows updating to the newer client?
The cores that do all of the work are currently the same as v7. So, for now, there shouldn't be any performance difference.

The final team standing will be based on EOC team stat (points total). Below are the points for each team at the start of the race on Jan 24, 2025 12PM CST. Final stat will be calculated per EOC team stat on Jan 31, 2025 12PM CST

In case anyone is looking for the realtime monitoring stat for this challenge, see here showing our overall team performance and individual contribution: https://ehwfoldingstats.lazypenguin.com/26/team/33
We are now sitting at 4th out of the 5 participating teams.

As of this writing we have 59 [H]ordes folding away!
Does that only show the top 59? As I don't see myself on that list at all. Folding under same name as forum for team 33.

It only shows everyone who had already returned valid results since the start of the race on Jan 24, 12PM CST. When did you start?

I started about 10ish hours ago and have returned 9wu for a total of 904,200 points. EO site shows me there for team 33. https://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/user_summary.php?s=&u=1355988
Strange. I can't find your user name "void" directly from the foldingforum.org when I look at the output from this api file: https://api2.foldingathome.org/team/33/members.
I can see my contribution from foldingforum https://stats.foldingathome.org/donor/id/689855463 for this challenge but I can't find your name there. What is your folding id number?

Edit: I found your name and id here: https://stats.foldingathome.org/donor/name/Void. What was your last active team?

To all others: Your credits will be lower than those who had met the QRB criteria. Please read here: https://foldingathome.org/faqs/points/bonus-points/what-are-the-qualifications-for-the-qrb/ and https://foldingathome.org/faqs/points/bonus-points/#:~:text=So in 2010 we introduced, will continue to use it.

firedfly , can you please help? Thx.

So I thinbk maybe it started my rank and stuff over because I added a passkey, at least until I complete a wu with it? folding ID is 146433

Shows I have no points on web client after adding passkey.

Honestly, I've no clue that you need to have a passkey added (which is good if you meet the QRB qualification) and then the stat will show up in the official foldingforum website. Find is strange that it shows up in EOC stat perhaps EOC is using hourly stat data instead of real-time data. Anyway, for this challenge, the final team standing is based on EOC team stat data, so your contribution is already included in the EOC stat.

We tell FAH volunteers to always create passkey first and apply it right away when they start folding.

In case anyone is interested, I just reformatted the data from folding.lar.systems and created gpu PPD chart here. Also posted in genmay.

This is NOT a gpu gaming benchmark , rather mostly on gpu single precision floating point (FP32) capability as used in molecular computational simulations of protein folding. The PPD scales well with GPU FP32 TFLOPs performance. DLSS, RT, MFG, etc do not help here. Caveat: there is a quick return bonus (QRB) credited to each completed work units (WUs) depending on how fast you return completed WUs, so the PPD separation between different gpu models does not actually scale linearly with FP32 performance, in fact quite close to exponential. You can try to simulate this with different TPF (time per frame) using this calculator: http://www.linuxforge.net/bonuscalc2.php

The api that we are using to do the "realtime" stats looks like it is only returning the first 1000 users. For [H] that means you'll show up once you hit a little over 5 million points. As pututu said, the official stats for the competition are based on the EOC team stats and those will include your points.

Void , once you have completed 10 WUs and validated, you should get QRB (with passkey) and be on your way to 5M points very quickly. Keep folding. ;)

Yeah, looks like the top 1000 users in total points for the team since you joined. I also see this on their official website: https://stats.foldingathome.org/team/33.
They should perhaps show top 1000 users based on either 7 or 50 days active participation, similar to what they show in the "Active Clients" section. Unfortunately most of top 1000 users are inactive.

I missed the part about creating a passkey until I'd completed 2 WUs. Once I added it, the web client stopped showing my current WUs on the Machines page, and I went back to being an unranked ranked member (?) I was ranked around 624000 before that. My donor stats page correctly shows 5 completed WUs. When, if ever, will the web client catch up?

Can you try to login and logout again if you're referring to this web client https://v8-4.foldingathome.org/machines?

Sure. This is what I see after doing so. The two rows of icons represent the CPU and GPU work units, and the little icons actually do stuff. But before I added my passkey I had bars on the left of the icons that showed my progress on the current WU.

1737872581103.png

This is the stats tab. Before adding the passkey, after I got the first WU submitted, it said I was rank 624000-ish, and the awards buttons on the left were blue. Notice now it says I have 0 points, 0 clients, etc.

The team's getting the points, and if I go look at the donor stats page at https://stats.foldingathome.org/donor/id/730781841, my results are recorded, its's just weird.

For new folder to the team, you must be in the top 1000 total contributors in that team before your stat shows up in foldingforum. Perhaps the link from above https://hardforum.com/threads/2025-6th-annual-folding-challenge-jan-24-31.2038812/post-1046043363 may explain. However your credits with and without the passkey will be counted towards team #33 (I assume you did join the correct one) based on EOC stat which is what we use to determine the final team standing at the end of the race.
Scratch that. Is your desktop on linux? Is it currently folding? I had issue with DNS on my linux machine, so no folding. Had to restart the fah-client (sudo systemctl restart fah-client). Not too sure about Windows.

You may need to go into the appearance settings (person icon at the top right of the page) and reset the settings to display the text:

The stats that you see *may* only show stats for the passkey you've entered. Once you've submitted more WUs using the passkey, hopefully you'll see some stats populated.

For goodness' sake. Yeah, that solved the missing indicators on the Machines page.

I got 8 more WUs overnight for a total of 13 submitted. If I click on Stats in the web client, it still says I'm an unranked ranked donor and a member of [H]ardOCP, but that I ahve 0 points earned, 0 WU's completed, 0 active clients, and no team contribution, same as a couple posts up. BUT, I have discovered I can click on "1_rick" at the top left to see my own stats by donor ID, and it says I have a million points, rank 342190, 13 WU, and that the team has earned a million points by my work.

No idea why the https://v8-4.foldingathome.org/stats page is wrong. Bug? Dunno.

I don't have a spare system to do this but is it possible to stick 2 GPUs in a motherboard and have F@H use both of them? Would the second being 4x or whatever the slot provides throttle the card? (I'm guessing the answers are yes and no.)

Before adding the passkey
I'm not seeing any results for you using a passkey. You can check your passkey status and its bonus eligibility here. When I search for 1_rick, it does not come back with any results: https://apps.foldingathome.org/bonus

Did you create a passkey here? https://apps.foldingathome.org/getpasskey
That will send you a passkey to your email. This is unique for your email and user.

In the 8.4 client, you'll enter that in the passkey field here: https://v8-4.foldingathome.org/account/settings

--
If you already followed those steps, I would double check that the passkey value you entered matches the email you received. Note that the passkey is different from the folding@home account that you can create to login to the v8.4 client. The passkey I described above is only for qualifying for a Quick Return Bonus (QRB)--you can't use that information to log in to the v8 client.

Yes, you can have more than one GPU folding on a single motherboard. Each GPU will get its own work unit to process.

A few years ago, I had three 3080TI's folding on a single board. PCIe 4.0 x8 and x16 appeared to be the same performance. I saw a 10-15% PPD reduction when running the third card at PCIe 4.0 x4.

I'm not seeing any results for you using a passkey.
I created one after submitting one each CPU and GPU WU. It is showing in my client. It's a 32-charater value, which happens to be 16 hex digits repeated twice. I re-requested it just now and confirmed both emails I got have the same passkey and that it's what is in the client.

You can see my donor ID page here: https://stats.foldingathome.org/donor/id/730781841

Yes and you won't lose much, if any performance. I have some GPU's using 1x slots designed for GPU mining. They work fine.

Check that passkey here and see if you have results: https://apps.foldingathome.org/bonus

If you don't see any results on that page, then the units aren't being credited to the passkey and aren't getting the quick return bonus. If that's the case, I'd suggest restarting fah or your computer and see if that resolves the issue.

I assume I should use 1_rick and not my email, but either way nothing happens when I click the button.
Yea, 1_rick and the passkey. Since you aren't seeing results, I'd restart that computer, check the passkey settings in the v8.4 client again and then start folding. Hopefully a restart will fix the issue.

Can you just try entering your username without the passkey? I know it sounds silly but for me it works without entering passkey.

With or without the passkey I see this after clicking the button. Since a user named void was upthread I put his name in too and saw some results. I will reboot now & see what happens.
