Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League (Rocksteady)

sounds like this is going to be like the Avengers game...good single player story worth playing while the GaaS elements can be ignored but the overall experience will be weighed down by it...the old Rocksteady founders formed a new studio so hopefully they can get back to making the good games

I swear WB has to be one of the dumbest publishers in the industry. They do so much stupid shit on a consistent basis that these issues do not surprise me at all. They’re up there with SquareEnix in terms of just pure casual stupidity and obstinate refusal to learn from their mistakes.
It's Middle-earth: Shadow of War all over again.

I'm still holding out hope that the single player story is going to be good...I think the GaaS elements are all cosmetic and can be ignored

IF the single player story is good enough like you said I might give it a shot. Harley Quinn is one of my favorite female comic book characters (alongside Catwomen and a few others) so it might compel me to go for it because I hear the story is very extensive and a ton of effort was out into it.

I will absolutely not pay for the live service it's not even a real shooter in my book it's 3rd person.

Oh also only when the price drops to about 20 bucks or so no way I'm blowing 30 40 or 50 nooo waaaay

John Linneman (Digital Foundry) seems impressed in the early going...

"Ok, first impressions are way more positive than expected. It looks really damn good visually and runs very smoothly

The core mechanics seem solid. The main concern now is whether the game becomes bogged down with loot/gear and GAAS stuff. The basic gameplay FEELS really good, though, so let's see how it goes

I will say that YouTube pretty much mangled the visuals beyond recognition. It looks pretty darn nice in person but YT compression smears it all together in the trailers"

Game looks better than I thought it would be after watching a streamer last night play it on ps5. Still, all these server/game story problems for the $100 early adopters is bad. Not a game I would want to spend $70-100 on though with all the denuvo and live services nonsense with $10 skins on top of it.

this at least looks better than Gotham Knights which is faint praise...forcing a studio to develop a game they are not interested in making is never a good thing...it also forced Rocksteady co-founders Sefton Hill and Jamie Walker to leave and form their own studio

I can see one thing that disappoints me in some gameplay videos. Seeing a character that was in Jedi Fallen Order/Survivor. Just sucks you out of the game when you recognize someone from a different game/setting/universe and is quite jarring. And why I have not been liking the trend of using real actors faces in games.

Rocksteady is sending $20 worth of in-game currency to early access players to compensate for the downtime during the early access period.

I'm not sure that is a good marketing move, I mean the mere existence of an in game cash shop is a red flag.

I've watched some gameplay yesterday and it looks generic and boring and way too current day. Like King Shark lamenting the closure of journalistic outlets.

- Online only for single player
- Cash shop for single player game
- Denuvo (for online only game?)

Not even good gameplay can save this.

Not worth looking into until they add an offline mode for the single player.

Its increasingly looking like a watch the cutscenes on youtube game. Gameplay seems repetitive after watching more and some of the dialog clips I've seen are...weak to say the least. Story is only 12 hours or so I think I read somewhere.

Harley executing Bats on a park bench in front of Supes' statue after a long speech of sillyness is just typical bad writing these days. Harley: "He would have wanted this, the real Batman".

Edit: I've been "watching" the Superman fight in the background for almost 15 minutes now. Tedious, is all I can say.

Once I heard it was only 12 hours I checked out. Also this is coming from someone who hates overly long drawn out games like Assassin's Creed Odyssey for hundreds of hours but only 12 is a joke. It needs to be at least 30 hours for me to consider a single player game.

I'm doubting the story will even be good. I don't expect a comic book based game to have a good story in the first place. So if the gameplay is bad there probably is little to redeem it.

I wouldn't mind a 12 hour game, if it was a good 12 hours. I prefer 20-36 hours or so typically.

Since it's a live service looter shooter I was waiting to hear more about side content and endgame content. But it seems nobody has anything to say about that, if it even exists.

wtf is going on with the gaming industry.
Development costs skyrocketing, quality tanking, jobs being cut everywhere. We're due for another 1983-style crash. Burn all of the AAA studios down and start over.

Kids these days eats that shit up.

So is this game any good? Is anyone playing or just coming here to shitpost about it? I mean I don't mind shitposting but prefer it from ones that actually bought the damn thing lol.

Wanna volunteer? I'm not going to buy something that looks this bad on let's plays. And it's an always online single player game that will boot you out of the session if it looses connection to the servers. That's an automatic no buy even if it was the greatest thing ever.

I'd tell you to check their subreddit but it's fucking dead.
Posts about the game itself have maybe 20-30 comments. Posts complaining about mtx prices are at 200+ though.

Anyway game seems better than everyone expected but still nothing to write home about.

Pretty much the same things that are affecting multiple other industries: Unionization, ESG, and DEI.

It’s greed from the top. Like most (though, definitely, not all) things in this country, it’s mostly the fault of the rich fucks that only care about getting that one extra penny no matter who it hurts.

I thought the Rocksteady Arkham games had really good stories...especially for fans of the comics...you can tell the developers were hard core fans of the comics and really knew their Batman lore and history...very impressive knowledge which is what made those games so good

the $69.99 price tag is what is hurting the game...I think more people will pick it up on sale...the GaaS elements seem limited to cosmetics so it's not a big deal to me

I wouldn't say those are the main reasons. I think many industries like this are being burned hard by their hiring practices and output of the last 6-8 in particular from the university system. They aren't hiring actual talent anymore, and most talent doesn't even want a job being a game developer anymore. They're just hiring idiot kids who have a four year degree, and a lot of the older crowd has retired. The result is just a bunch of people churning out crap product, because they have no real experience. The writing is bad, the tech is bad, the art is bad, the modeling is bad, the level design is bad, etc.

This game being garbage was to be expected given that Rocksteady isn't comprised of the same people that developed the Arkham games.

BTW - This is why I'm fairly confident GTA6 is going to be a turd. It will likely sell well, but Rockstar is in the same boat. The team that developed RDR2 and prior are all gone. It's not the same company it was.
