Some Xbox Series X games are now required to be online to play, specifically single player games. Did Microsoft not learn from the Xbox One?

Lets be honest, how many people own an Xbox and do not have it connected to the internet?
I don't want to play a game and then stop because my internet is down. Also, haven't we learned from Sony and how they were about to shut down their PS3 and Vita stores? Nintendo is much worse.Lets be honest, how many people own an Xbox and do not have it connected to the internet?
There can be disruptions at either end and if someone loses their internet that sounds like the perfect time to fire up a SP game. That's the only entertainment I had couple of years ago when a big snowstorm took out my cable/internet connection and I was stuck at home for several days.Lets be honest, how many people own an Xbox and do not have it connected to the internet?
I literally can’t remember the last time my Xbox was online but that’s because no one uses it. Game set match Microsoft lol.Lets be honest, how many people own an Xbox and do not have it connected to the internet?
Yeah, I guess that was a bad cost-cutting tactic by shorting the SSD capacity on the PS5, but at least now you can move PS5 (and PS4 of course) games to an external drive to store it to alleviate SSD space. Since they've updated that, storage hasn't been an issue for me with my 4TB external drive and I'll just keep the few PS5 titles I might rotate through on the internal SSD. I def prefer the PS5 over my Series X though if just for the exclusives and Dual Sense controller and haptics on games that support it (like RE8 that I opted to play on PS5 instead of PC/Xbox), and any Xbox game I'll likely prefer to play on PC.I'm primarily a PC gamer but have a Series X. Absolutely love it and M$ did right by throwing at least a 1TB gen 4 nvme in there. Unlike the idiots @ Sony who thought 825GB ( which only 615gb or so is useable ) was a good idea. And have yet to release the fcking firmware update to enable the additional m2 storage thats completely useless for 6+ months now. I have a PS5 too, they are both great consoles. But the Series X is better IMO
And i could care less about this DRM always online bullshit. My stuff is always onilne 24/7 anyway.

Dunno why I got the XSX really since I mostly use it to play BC 360 and arcade games that I could have done on my previous Xbone. Now this news makes me more apt to resell it or give it to one of my kids for now.
Oh yeah, I expect that as well. Not a big deal for me either, as I expect them to release a mid-cycle "pro" (or at least a "slim") console as well like they did last generation and I'll be trading this launch PS5 for that when that happens. Although I'm concerned that they will also drop the option to have an optical drive on future revisions of the PS5 consoles as well, just like they did on the PS3 for BC on previous gen PS games.I'm sure they'll upgrade the SSD capacity in 2022. And then probably again later. Won't help people that already have one but I'm sure they'll get around to it on the next revision.
Games aren't like they used to be...This shit is obnoxious. I was playing the COD: Cold War campaign on PC and I paused it for a bit, my internet dropped for a few and when I tried to go back to the game it said my internet was no longer detected so the game had to close. Didn't save, didn't let me continue, just fucking kicked me out of a SINGLE PLAYER CAMPAIGN.
Perfect time to fire up the emulation backlog. There can be disruptions at either end and if someone loses their internet that sounds like the perfect time to fire up a SP game. I'd be surprised if they don't backtrack on this unless Sony is doing the same thing, they're not really in the position to be dictating terms right now.
This is game dependent, by the way. I was playing Cold War on my PS5 and got kicked out of the game when my internet connection was interrupted for a few seconds. It's not limited to the Series X|S and it can also happen with PC games. Duke just has a thing against consoles.I literally can’t remember the last time my Xbox was online but that’s because no one uses it. Game set match Microsoft lol.
PS4 got upgraded to PS5 and the Xbox didn’t. First time I’ve ever actually bought a PS. The PS3 phat and white PS4 were both presents from friends.
I will not be buying a system that forces always online. It’ll be the first Xbox generation I skip. I was actually looking at Series X’s too.
Interesting. Demon souls and Miles Morales don’t boot you when it’s offline I don’t think. I have rock solid internet though so I’m not sure I’d know. I also only play COD on my PC and play mostly warzone with buddies.Perfect time to fire up the emulation backlog.

Nintendo and Squeenix can't do a thing if I want to pop in my Chrono Trigger cart at any time. In fact, I just did a few days ago. The worst thing we have to deal with on old systems is dying CR2032s, and that's not exactly hard to fix. I don't know if I'll keep up with the hobby if the digital only future becomes a reality. I hate the idea of not owning my games. The issue here isn't about needing internet, but dependency on remote servers that will one day go down.
Your nes or n64 games work after more than 20-30 years? Your xbox wont
yeah we'll see, when psn broke on my ps4 I couldn't play any games at all, I had to format the drive and reinstall lol. It sucks I am not a fan of this OS DRM as well as game DRM like "single player" games being online.I literally can’t remember the last time my Xbox was online but that’s because no one uses it. Game set match Microsoft lol.

On PC I can patch the game so it doesn't. There's like zero consequence of cracking a single player game. Not that this is acceptable even on PC, but putting DRM in single player games on PC is about as effective as putting micro-transactions on a single player game on PC. Trying getting a crack for a single player game on Xbox Series X. Also, PC is not beholden to one entity, and that includes Microsoft. Especially Microsoft. If Microsoft fucks around then there's always Steam... Epic... Origin. Actually, nobody on PC buys games from Microsoft. This is game dependent, by the way. Console industry constantly reinforces my hate towards them. Join the PCMasterRace, we have a low bar of entry.Duke just has a thing against consoles.
Nothing says “pc gaming community“ quite like that pic for sure.Console industry constantly reinforces my hate towards them. Join the PCMasterRace, we have a low bar of entry.

More like consoles aren’t whet they used to be.Games aren't like they used to be...
Sad
I'm pretty sure that happens on PC too when you buy a physical disc. Sooo games...More like consoles aren’t whet they used to be.
When you buy a physical disc but still need to download a 80GB day 0 patch before you can play...
Hell, haven touched Returnal for a few weeks. Release day crashes on bosses, house, and teleporting. I hate having to restart that cycle when the game random decides to break time.
but had these same issues on AC 2? Maybe AC3. He’ll, lost a lot of hours on Silent Hunter 3 when my internet would crap out. Took a very long break from UBI at that time.
It's even pretty hard to buy a disc anymore. Usually the boxes just have a card for Steam download.I'm pretty sure that happens on PC too when you buy a physical disc. Sooo games...
Can I unlike this??? Because that’s how steam started and I’m still resentful. I lived in an area with shit Internet go and buy a game to pop in the CD to find it’s just the steam installer and CD key is instead the steam redemption code. Then spend 2-3 days downloading the actual game…. I was more than a little butthurt. It's even pretty hard to buy a disc anymore. Usually the boxes just have a card for Steam download.

yeah, public WiFi wasn't much of a thing back then this had to be 2003-2004, but sure hauling a tower down to the business kiosk to snag their network probably would have been a viable solution.
Good hotels frequently had wired Internet back then, buddy.yeah, public WiFi wasn't much of a thing back then this had to be 2003-2004, but sure hauling a tower down to the business kiosk to snag their network probably would have been a viable solution.
They did, in the aforementioned business kiosks. Not gonna lie I had done it once or twice in my time but usually with a cheap laptop never hauled the tower around. Still butthurt about it though.Good hotels frequently had wired Internet back then, buddy.
As someone who downloaded beta Windows 2000 builds over dialup I feel your pain. They did, in the aforementioned business kiosks. Not gonna lie I had done it once or twice in my time but usually with a cheap laptop never hauled the tower around. Still butthurt about it though.

Ok that makes sense. On PC it is expected, outside of C64/A2E, not many other systems I worked with would play purely from floppies/cassette. Consoles on the other hand, from pong to early PS3, I could pop in disk and play without the need install anything.
When I had to start installing stuff on consoles and still needed to swap disc to play games…. I stopped buying physical media.
