Borderlands 3

I'm very much looking forward to something new, so this is coming at a good time. I've run Moxxi's DLC into the ground.

I just picked up the game last week on Steam sale. The mech class is pretty decent to play so far.

I was fairly surprised that running my GTX 1060 6GB, I got around 50fps on 1080p high. Turns out volumetric fog is the big performance sucker. So I bumped that to Medium, an bumped textures to Ultra, and now I'm seeing around 65 fps :D

Is the setting good looking? sure. But not worth the 15fps performance hit!

Good to know on the volumetric fog- I have been spoiled by the graphics changes available for the first two games (turn the cell shading lines way down for one), and really wish the texture detail was better in BL3.

I dunno, on Ulta it's noticeably better than BL2 (even with th e improved textures from last year). Can they go higher? sure. Will I notice it? possibly.

BL3's graphics don't justify the horsepower needed to achieve them IMO. At the same time, I also feel the different settings also provide noticeable results when they're bumped. Not enough to justify the performance hit in many cases, but they do offer substantial gains. I ended up just cranking everything up all the way and lowered the render resolution 'til the benchmark never drops below 60. That was the best compromise I could devise.

LOL, as I was reading your comment I started to wonder if I had typed this, because that's exactly what I did. I started at high/medium settings that I manually chose and decided it didn't look very impressive. I'm running at 2K res, switched to the max default and then set render res to 75%. You can see the ugliness from the render res change, but it does now have all of the visual effects so the graphics look fancier. I completely agree with the game requiring more power than is necessary. I initially took this approach with DOOM Eternal (high settings, not ultra whatever), then I switched to the highest preset and told it I wanted 100 FPS and it does an excellent job at meeting those requirements and running super smooth. I think I can see the resolution downsampling in DOOM, it's just not as noticeable as BL3's and BL3's isn't dynamic so seems to be very inferior.

Legendaries seem to be pretty common, haven't finished the campaign yet and I think I found more legendaries then in my 500+ hours of borderlands 2, not that all of them are worth using.

Still liking the game despite the earlier mentioned problems with the controls for us azerty users.

Now is it me or are most drops in the game always a higher lvl then you are, most loot I have to wait 1-2 levels to be able to use I even had a gun for a quest that was 1 lvl higher then I was although I could equip and use it.

Secondly anyone know where the steam version saves screenshots? The directory that they supposedly should be saved too does not exist on my machine and I did take a couple screenshots.

Go to your Content page on your Steam profile, and "Upload Screen Shots" there you can open the uploader and you can pick the game you want and have the option to show on disk (button on the bottom).

Wow- I have a lot of Warframe screenies...

I found that most of the legendaries aren't particularly noteworthy. About 1/4 of them are truly worthwhile. The others feel like they just came out of a stat/effect randomizer. In at least a few cases they'll end up nerfing the really good ones into the ground, too.

Having done nearly everything there is to do up until now, I still haven't found anything better than an Atlas assault rifle with 2x damage. They don't drop super often with 2x damage, but when they do, look out. They're essentially a full-auto sniper rifle with no recoil and a massive magazine. Just hold down the trigger and watch things disintegrate. The auto-tracking alternate fire is just a distraction. Best one I've found is 1300 x 2 damage so far.

I currently havve an 11xx damage sniper atm that needs a bit to charge b4 shooting but then if you hold down the button shoots full auto, it melt's enemies down fast and leaves some boulder spewing volcanoes to make it even better, 17 bullet magazine, hard to keep ammo stocked for it though :p
Edit finally found my screenshots

The level increase from level 50 to 53 was larger than I figured it would be, so another 4 levels could be a big deal. Either that or the prior level cap increase coincided with a bunch of other changes that made it seem big.

EDIT: New DLC and additional updates are now live. Thanks to remote work I probably won't get to touch anything for 6 hours, but I'm excited for more Borderlands 3 content.

I could select the mission in Hammerlock's quarters, but can't navigate there, yet. Interwebs is slo.

Edit: got downloaded eventually, the "hotfixes applied" sign goes away, then comes back when it's done. I see the good old HPL they're throwing out. And a call back to BL2.

Something related to the update has borked my Fullscreen HDR. It works, but it's waaaay too bright and none of the settings seem to affect it. Borderless seems to work OK and DX12 seems to alleviate the problem completely...although gameplay isn't as smooth. My theory is that it has something to do with the intro movies. They seem to disable HDR and when it comes back, it isn't set right.

You can delete those 3 mp4 files from the game directory (wherever you placed your game/borderlands3/oakgame/content/movies)
2KLOGO.mp4
GBXLOGO.mp4
AMDLOGO.mp4

and I see that there are 2 new files;
2KLOGO.webm
GBXLOGO.webm

I delete them to get rid of the logo's, but the added benefit is that you can tell if there was an update if the movies re-appear after you deleted them. For some strange reason they always put them back on an update.

No luck. I tried the command that disables playing them, too. I think it's the internal movie player the game is using now (those webm files might be related). Even when they aren't there or are disabled, the game still starts with that player. Either way, Borderless seems to work fine so I'm just rolling with that. I'll have to see if that causes hiccups at some point, but if it doesn't I can deal. Seems like something they should fix, though.

I made a set of zero-byte files and copied them into the movie folder- and set them to read-only. They still get replaced by major updates, but the hotfixes can't touch them. I just wish it actually increased the load speed more... But I do get a few more seconds of that claptrap dance (yay?)/

like this
IIf I missed this before, but I can buy orange, leveled items in the machines. Just one per machine, but so far all vending machines have them. Lyuda's, quasars, transfusions, but only the one orange per machine. Finally have something to spend all that money I've been accumulating.

Edit - Nibblenomicon, heh, heh.

edit; edit - Drop rate is pretty wild, finding oranges quite a lot, plus loads of purple/blues all over. Open EVERYTHING

Being able to buy golden weapons in vending machines is pretty damn cool. Even better, they're properly leveled up, too. Some of those early gold drops are totally worthless by the end of the game, but when they're level 550+ they could be pretty amazing. Ditto with items you just got a bad roll on.
Since I've purchased all of Marcus' extra slots and still have 22 million dollars, I'm just buying everything I see. I then just take it back to my vault and see if it's worth keeping or not. Worst case, a single run of the VIP vault still provides a half-million dollars if anyone is broke at the end of the game.

EDIT: They've been giving out golden keys like it's going out of style. I have like 30 of them now. I find that I get crap with them most of the time so I've been holding them back until I hit level 57. I think I'm just going to cross my fingers and burn 'em.

Nice! Also;
WKWJB-5JKX6-T53BJ-TJ3TB-S5CKZ
C3KTJ-WF9SK-F9F6H-56TT3-CZ6FR
Both work until the first week of April- 15 golden keys total.

Couldn’t get that top one to work, anyone else have luck? Thanks for the post!

Ditto, top one seems to be DOA.
It's worth hunting through Randy Pitchford's Twitter from the last few weeks for more, though: https://twitter.com/DuvalMagic
There have been a couple of them worth 3-10 keys each since early March and I think at least one was good for the whole month.

The top one is supposed to be good until the 13th- I used it as borderlands.com.

Once Guns, Love, and Tentacles kicks in, it's a blast. It starts pretty slowly (and early sections are overly easy), but it picks up after you complete 2-3 of the core missions.
Not sure if they're location specific, but I'm noticing a finite number of golden weapons on sale in the vending machines. Either that or certain items are in much heavier rotation than others. I'm hoping for a leveled up Ghost Call (the best grenade in the game, IMO) but I haven't seen one yet. However, I bet I've seen Moxxi's Bouncing Pair and Tina's Hippity Hopper a dozen times each.

With the vending machines selling gold gear, keys are barely even needed. I've probably used 50-60 keys in total and I don't think I've gotten more than a handful of worthwhile items. Keys are much more helpful early in the game rather than later. Feels like the game loves trying to give me so-so shields and class mods every time.
I've had much better luck with the guy in the basement that wants your Eridium. I've bought some straight up killer weapons from that dude.

The vending machhines will only sell legendaries until april 2nd so grab em while you can.

Yipes. Was wondering about that. I think I'm just going to go from area to area buying anything I don't have for the next couple days. Hopefully the Ghost Call is in one of 'em. I'd love to encounter a Variable that boosts multiple Atlas stats, but at least I know where those drop (VIP Lounge).

After hopping around to a few different areas, it seems like there is definitely a limited number of legendaries for sale. I keep seeing the same dozen'ish items in each machine cycling.

Unrelated, I hit the new level 57 cap and (much like the level 53 cap), it seems to make the new DLC enemies tougher. I felt overpowered early, but they seem to have caught up as I leveled up. Not sure how much of the new content I've completed, but I've seen most of the new maps. They feel way bigger than Moxxi's, but they're also less dense.

With a specific combo of mods and shields I managed to get my shield ranking above 60,000. Although my health is at 1 :p. I'm also invincible for the first 4 seconds after it gets depleted. Not bad, although I'm still not sure some of those things actually mean much. Feels like certain attacks and enemies still take my shield totally out almost immediately. I'm also not sure about that 4-second thing in spite of what the gear claims. 4 seconds is a pretty long time after you see the "glass break" effect and I've still ended up in FFYL quite a few times.

Considered buying this, but since I still haven't finished BL1 or 2 I figured i'll play through them first and their DLC's before I get this. Hopefully by then it will be a lot cheaper also. (And maybe BL4 will be coming out :sneaky:.)

Worth it, BL has some of the better DLC packages ever made (imho). There is a ton to do- even if you are not a completionist, and the overall story any fun are going to be an amazing bang for the buck. Let us know what parts really stand out to you so we can reminisce!

Might depend on how fast your shield get's destroyed, might be a xx second cooldown timer for the 4 sec invincibility

With a track record like that

To be fair, I have played most of BL1 and some of 2, but lost my saves when I rebuilt my system so had to restart everything. Currently over halfway through BL1 atm.
