FCC bans Robocalls-Texts

I have made a hobby of trying to keep the other human on the line for as long as possible. I figure that since I can't stop the calls, I can at least make them more expensive.

That said, it seems that a lot of these call farms have started implementing timers which will do a hard cut once the timer hits its max, regardless of whether the human is getting any results. So, first these jerks start spamming me, and now they're taking the sport out of trolling them back.

Per that site, I've been registered since 2007!!!

I receive 4-5 robo calls a week on my AT&T number.
...which is 4-5 more calls than I make a week to begin with!

I too, give out a Google Voice number as needed.
That number never receives robocalls.
Wonder what Google does to block them, but AT&T could use that technology.

They can ban stuff all they want. Nobody enforces it, so what does it matter?

Call Control is my friend, not the gubment.

Yeah I have a bit of fun with that also. If I don't feel like actually talking to one of these idiots, my favorite line is "Hold on, let me go grab my wallet really quick" after which I just set the phone down and move on with life while they wait.

After a while I think my number ends up getting blacklisted because it sure seems like I've got less robocalls after I began doing this.

They don't. They wardial. 212-111-0001, then 212-111-0002, etc. If you answer, they connect you to a person. Although lately, they connect you to a robot, probably because the humans are taking too much (deserved) abuse.
which is exactly how you beat the system. I get 1-2 robocalls a week. If you don't know the number, answer and hit mute. The system listens for a voice response then connects to a call center. No voice and it logs it as a dead number. No further calls from that phone bank. Do it long enough and you basically poison your number out of all the systems.

If any wireless carrier actually attempted to deal with this problem, they would instantly corner the market on cellular service regardless of their network, plans, or any other normal metric.

I've been doing this for months, mainly because if you don't pick up, it fills your VM box with a bunch of blank effing messages. But it does not help at all. In fact I got 9 calls yesterday alone, all from 530 area code with the last 4 digits randomized. Such a bunch of bullshit.

And the ban is nice, but how do they enforce it? It's already illegal to cold call cells phones on the DNC list (Except campaign calls, more bullshit). But if you try and find out who they are calling on behalf of, they will just hang up. So the only information you have is a spoofed number, how do you report that and get anything done?

In that case, we need an app that detects the robocall and adds the number to a list of numbers to counter-robocall

Robocalls also love to leave robovoicemails without even calling my phone first.

I have the same cell # for 15 years. I don't get any robocalls, or weird texts.

I've been on the DNC list since the first day it went up.

My favorite time messing with them and keeping them on the line was some guy with a really strong Jamaican accent. When he finally caved 15 minutes in and raises his voice and cursed I about died roflmao

Lately I've been trying to start the convo off with some weird topics right off the bat, abortion, micro penis, immigration, civil rights reform. If you want the convo to be 'short' the micro penis usually has a big click within 15s..

Uh... What? Your post made little sense.

Anything you discuss with him results in an unjustified "no, you're wrong" reply. Therefore, there's no point discussing anything with him.

Seems pretty logical to me.

so you lost an argument with him on some other thread, now youll bring it up everywhere else until the end of time, confusing everyone else with your seemingly random belligerence. got it.

Nope, just have no interest in talking to him and believe that needs to be made perfectly clear.
