Warning = Bitcoin in coming ..

From a pure mining perspective the radeon 7 is better because it's cheaper. The difference between the two is about $0.20 a day Even counting electricity costs it would take you a long time to make up the difference.

Only thing is Radeon VII isn’t as profitable on as many algorithms as Nvidia cards are.

Definitely. I guess I'm talking more to the Nicehash "set it and forget it" crowd. My AMD cards bounce between DaggerHashimoto, Lyra2REv3, CryptonightR, and Beam when I run them. Still a good blend even if they are a little more power hungry than say a 1070 or something.

How much were people making last year when Bitcoin went flying? I don't recall it being too much higher than it is now. Surely GPUs weren't flying off the shelves by the zillion for $3/day before electricity??

Or is it just low because bitcoin is up but other coins are not?

It went up to $12 per day for a 1080ti iirc? Could be making that up. 3 month ROI sounds about right though.

Makes sense. That probably explains why the GPUs were selling too. I bought my vega 64 at launch for I think $549ish? By last Jan I could have sold it on ebay for like $1,200 lol.

I would try my hand at mining if I could make $10 a day for sure..

That’s right It peaked at about $12 a day for a 1080TI on nicehash.

That huge profit made the used market spike to almost what double new cards were selling for and video card retail store shelves look like this! (Overland Park Kansas Microcenter GPU section)

Radeon 7 is a much better mining card than The 2080ti. Who ever says it is not is a silly wombat. 2080ti cannot touch that memory bandwidth.

over 90mh/s in eth. Puts it leagues above anything else. I wonder how the Navi cards will do. I'd expect close to vega 64 numbers, maybe a tad higher.

There are more coins to mine than Eth...

No it was certainly up there. To get the 2.82 on nicehash are you running 100% power?

Yes.

overall it is more profitable to mine on the Radeon 7, vs the 2080ti. The 2080ti loses most of those battles, and hard.

I have both cards... 2080ti wins in both earnings and by far in efficiency. The only negative is the upfront cost.

You don't mine FB crypto. That is the point. This whole "mining" thing is pointless busy work that wastes large amounts of electricity.

I thought the point of mining was to decentralize the network by letting any joe schmo miner sign the next block full of transactions. Wouldn't that mean that this FB crypto is centralized to FB and therefore pointless since it's centralized like any other currency Bitcoin was a rebellion against?

I'm not exactly into bitcoin so sorry if I have that wrong.

Well yeah, it won't quote the anonymity appeal that Bitcoin does for money laundering, drug dealing, etc...

The current price on nicehash fluctuates , it was over $5 today then back down to about $2.70

It all depends on how many shares your cards are having accepted at any given time and what people are paying for your work. Sometimes your card is actually more profitable and sometimes less profitable. Every once in a while there will be a big spike on some algo that causes a 50% rise for a couple minutes and then it backs off. That $2.70 is more of an "average" of what your card is producing all day.

Err I've been waiting for July-August to make my hardware decisions due to Ryzen 3k + Navi dropping. 2080 - 2080 Ti is way out of my league anyway, I was thinking that refurb deal for the Zotac 1080Ti but eh...

If prices go insane by then I'll just spend a year on the 980Ti, also have a Maxwell Titan I just grabbed from Kyle's sales I can play with too, and still haven't sold the vega 64... Hopefully those are good enough for Borderlands 3 @ 1440P :)

Then cough it up now. ;). I just did. Not dealing with this nonsense again.
That's why I grabbed a v64 end of last year after it all crashed at $400.. set for a few more years unless I have a windfall, then it's 4k build time.

In a normal world, waiting for the actual game (or hell, even it's minimum/recommended requirements) to be released a year from now would be prudent. Or waiting for the hoped for midrange price wars after the lower SKU Navi's are released...

It was the meaning I got from Book of Eli if it's used as a weapon = word of month = Hilter used it as a weapon = Give up over and over blasted on the loud speaker = mind control or the start of it = Project Ultra = how to manifest energy using word of mouth = empty stores

I don’t really expect much of a price war. I guess it’s the risk of paying 10-15% too much now or 100% if bitcoin goes nuts again.

Mining is good! $3.50-$4 almost all day yesterday on the 2080ti
about $2.50 on the 1080ti... price hikes inc

DOh I just checked RTX 2080 last 24 hours.I usually buy video cards with mining money but this time it may be new Ryzen system or a new roof on my house.Got around 0.45 bitcoin saved up.

Yup buy GPUs now before mining comes back into Rogue as prices shoot up! Just starting to see profits on GPU mining becoming reasonably worthwhile again.

3 weeks ago my six 1070 made about $3 a day combined. — basically a wash with electricity and cooling.

Now $8.50 s day combined already and climbing fast.

Here’s to hoping we see $8 a day for each card on those 1070 cards again. ;).

Dammit. I just want to play my vidya. If I'm going to have to cough up $1K to play Cyberpunk at slideshow speeds I'll just give up and read books.

I'm starting to wonder if I can get by with a console honestly. I have to play around with my Xim some more on my PS4 to see if that can cut it.

I just checked ebay prices on RX580's. They are still pretty normal. I can always just use a 1080p monitor and one of those.

1070s are great cards. Both for mining and gaming.
