Been eyeing the deals on 1080ti's but not sure I can swing it. Would it be worth selling my 1070 and getting a 1080?

I play mostly BF games. Maybe some rainbow six seige. @ 1440p.

I have been looking at reviews but they are often right when the cards were released so I know drivers have matured.

Anyone have any thoughts on what sort of upgrade this may be? Anyone done it?

What’s the problem simply to look at fps comparison in any of today’s 2080/2080ti reviews, where both 10 and 20 series cards are presented with latest data in most popular modern games, and decide for yourself?

I've been doing that, also wanted some insight from some other people so I posted here.

Do you have an issue running BF1 on your PC? what other specs do you have? that's a pretty minimal upgrade.

Are you at 60hz or 144hz+? If at 60, stick with the 1070 and wait to see what the next 2070 equivalent card brings and at what price.

I went from a GTX1070 to a 1070Ti. Its not that much of an upgrade. But I can play more games at higher settings with it.

I actually was having pretty poor performance. I'm running a 5820k with 16gb ram. But my system is also a server and is long overdue for a clean install.

I'll be doing that this week because the performance was well below what the sites we're reporting. I was in the 30-40s often. Had to put it on medium which still didn't totally solve it.

But I think the real problem is I have the upgrade itch. Seeing all these cheap mining cards floating around.

Eh? Im at 1440p and ran BF1 at ultra with some shadows/lighting and AA settings turned down a bit managing 59.98 fps or whatever it is (set a limit via the console to reduce power, basically v-sync without the tearing, works great.)

Using a 1070 StOCK + 4690k @ 4.2ghz. Maybe play around with mixing some settings? Also check when you're playing the game if your GPU is at 99% or is it fluctuating etc.

Of course it's been a longggg time since I ran up Bf1.. Maybe I Ran on high? Either way definitely didn't need to drop to Medium.

Does seem like upgrade but not substantial.
If it is worth it depends on how much you would need to pay for such upgrade.

Probably the best is to wait it out until RTX 2070 comes out.

I did that a while back. Sidegrade from a 1070 to a 1080.

Yeah, it was worth it provided you can get good value out of your 1070 and not pay much to switch.

At 1440p I got substantially better "feel" from most of my games. I actually made the switch because I wanted just a hair more perf at 1440.

I know, that's not numerical but I'm pretty convinced that the extra cuda cores in the 1080 are worth it especially once you apply a small OC. It's just a better all around card with less low frame rate outlier situations. Less stuttering at a bad moment etc.

Both great cards, but if you can switch them easily? I'd do it.

Yeah I think my system is bogged down. Something definitely wasn't running right.

I feel like the 2070 will be a rip off like the other two cards personally.

Seems like the 1080ti is where the real upgrade is at.

1080ti is expensive & not worth buying
better get 2080

250$ for new faster card with RT & DLSS with full warranty vs used 'mined' card... your choice...

Yeah I'll personally gladly save the $250. It will be a while before those new features are of much help.

The warranty is an issue, but just need to find one with a year or more and things should be golden.

That is the worst advice I've seen.

Most 2080's are $800 and up. My preorder was $900 after tax. I canceled my preorder and picked up a used 1080Ti for $500 and it performs in the same ballpark. I can take that $400 and do whatever the hell I want with it.

My 2 cents is buy the 2080Ti if you need it, or get a used 1080Ti.

GTX 1080s can be found in the used market for a steal if you look a bit and have patience. 1070 to 1080 is not bad if you can snipe a 1080 for $300 used.

Unfortunately, the time has passed to get steals on 1080 Ti, I am afraid - with the news about the 2080 and 2080 Ti performance.

Personally, I would get the 2080 over the 1080 Ti right now, FWIW. But I have a 2080 Ti on order. Still a bit hesitant because I absolutely love my MSI GTX 1080 Ti Lightning Z.

So, you are frame rate limiting, which you can do in any game by using Nvidia Inspector. But you say it is like vsync without the tearing. You have to turn vsync on to stop tearing even if you do use a frame rate limiter.

I don't understand this argument since the 1080 can be overclocked, too.

What's to not understand? He currently has a 1070 that is presumably at stock clocks and is considering upgrading to a 1080. Im suggesting skipping the upgrade to the 1080 and to just overclock his 1070 or to get a 1080ti.

The likely case of an RTX 2070 being significantly faster than a 1080 are slim to none. They're coming out at the same price range, and like the 1080Ti to the 2080(non-Ti) they're almost guaranteed to be about the same speed give or take 5%.

@ OP: The 1070 is perfectly adequate to play Rainbow Six and Battlefield at 1440p. You'll just be throwing good money that you could've saved for an actual upgrade. I suggest just saving your money for a year and wait until when 7nm GPU's come out, that is when you'll start seeing tangible upgrades for your 1070 if you can't afford a 1080Ti/2080/2080 Ti.

Wait for 2070 benchmarks.

I'm curious if those were held back so the 2080's would sell to those that might have gone 2070 instead.

Curious if the 2070 would impact depletion of existing 1070+ inventory.

High end AIB 1080 Tis are still going for $500 on eBay. This higher pricing for 1080 Ti is just a guess that some people had once everyone saw that the 2000 series is a flop. It hasn't actually manifested.

Just wait for an ebay 15% off night and it becomes a lot cheaper ;)

Yeah, I'd skip the 1080 *(unless you can get one for LOTS cheaper than a 1080ti) and just buy a used 1080ti. I've seen plenty of deals, and if I didn't also need a waterblock (and weren't waiting to see how the 2080 / 2080ti situation panned out) I'd have snagged one a while ago. If you can get a 1080ti for less than $500 I'd go for that rather than a $400 1080.

I'm hopeful that because AMD has some actual cards that will compete with the 2070 for performance that they will have to price it accordingly. Of course they can't really do that and have the 2070 too close in performance to the 2080 so I suspect they will have to make the 2070 priced and perform just a bit more than the 1070. Any idea when the 2070 and 2060 are coming out?
