I am just going to say it. The Japanese are some crazy bastards when it comes to their electronics. This however is seriously going to cut into the waifu market. Then again at US$1350, maybe not. But what happens when your real GF sees all the texts from your Gatebox? Answer: Nothing, because that would never happen.

Reminds me of the movie I saw not too long ago. Where the guy builds a relationship with the computer. Guess it could be possible one day when AI gets to that point.
 
Needs to come with hands and suitable orifices. The on/off switch for its mouth is likely already provisioned.

I have wanted this since they first announced it a while ago. My only issue here is the price. wake me when its around the $500 mark
 
It's unfortunate that my Japanese is so poor. I'd love to have a smart home interface like that. Something that automatically turns lights off when I leave a room, adjusts the thermostat, opens/closes windows to save on A/C at night, and answers simple questions a la Siri/Cortana/Assistant. Having it be able to say, "Hey, Jackass... You told your wife you'd call your Mom and wish her a Happy Birthday two hours ago, then you got distracted by something shiny on the internet." would be quite helpful. Or maybe, "Don't forget, corn dogs are $0.50 at Sonic today! You told me to remind you." Being able to give it an avatar would just be icing on the cake. Heck, right now I'm having a conversation asking basically, "Didn't we have plans this weekend? I don't see anything in my calendar, but I could have sworn we talked about..."
 
it seems like such a pathetic replacement for a partner. There's good and bad that you have to take with existing with another person. I've heard the most ridiculous stories about what goes where and why it becomes such an issue. The AI won't cheat on you but she also can't make love to you either.

I'd rather be single then buy one of these.
 
Been reading about Asians having some trouble dating here in America. This seems like a perfect solution. Little dancing anime robot holograms to satisfy whatever it is they are missing in their lives.
 
This is like the movie HER, and Joi from Bladerunner. Though I get the feeling with the right kind of interactive outfit Joi would be interesting. ;)

Which raises an interesting hypothetical question: If AI goes off the range after interacting with humans thinking "It's just a machine" whom is responsible?

Just remember though Joi was generic, the saddest part of that movie was where he realized at the billboard his connection to her was just a copied scripted AI essentially rendering the thoughts and feelings as fake and in turn him realizing he wasn't unique. Chobits/Gits all explore those things as to the meaning of being human/perceived cognizance/Soul and how there is a borderline between healthy society and a shitty one.

Honestly seeing this, while understanding the culture it comes from almost saddens me, but it is showing a darker part of humanity, the recluses to the people whom won't commit to another human being, so we can create machines we can simply turn off when we want.

I'd say this basically reinforces the culture of living alone and only popping out children as a means of reproduction with several women rather than having the courage to face 1 person day in and day out, having several meaning less relationships rather than searching for that one to actually share a life with.
 
Saw this a couple years ago. Never expected to see it released with in the next 10 years.
