Is it time to dump my 5820k? There are so many new processors and mother boards out there right now. Is it even worth it? Is there that much performance difference?

I know I am bottle necking my NVMe 960 Pro, but I believe that is an issue.
 
That was a great article.. Thanks for pointing me in that direction.. I am holding on to this beast of a while longer..
 
I would wait until march and upgrade to the new Zen+ processors & Motherboards.
 
I'd wait for Intel to design a non-defective CPU ;)
By that time, hopefully RAM and GPU prices would have come back down to sane levels.

Doubt ddr5 while be cheap when it's available....that's when you will see a "fixed" cpu

Also doubt pcie 4.0 GPU will be cheaper at that time
 
Nah keep it will still do everything. Id still dump any 1366 rig though...I think going into 2018, definitely need to retire old ddr3 rigs.

Depends on what you're doing. An overclocked hex core xeon is no slouch even today. The problem is the motherboard feature limits....PCIe 2.0, SATA2, etc.

Why on earth would I do that?

I have a few HP Z600s (w/ dual X5670) and Z800s (w/ dual X5690) around that still pull their weight in MT tasks.
Damned things are bulletproof and were cheap as hell (Z600s free from work, Z800s were ~$150 each)

I'd agree with you for a non-OCed, single socket 1366 rig with a low-clocked / low core count CPU though.
