I'm way to far behind to read up on all the new coins that are out. But probably not if someone can point me in the right direction.
What are you mining?

I stopped mining litecoins in 2014 because power costs more than they were worth but today They are worth much more than when I mined them. I don't think litecoins are still practical to mine today, but what would be a good coin to try mining these days? Vertcoins still any good?

I see a lot of people mining burst, but I don't understand it at all hah.

I like you was doing lite coin before it went ASIC... so 2015?ish.

I'm back in the game. currently doing ZCL until new hardware arrives. than I will do ETH.

I was reading about ETH but it sounds like you need some serious hardware investment to mine it and it may not be much longer before it becomes unminable? Or course you could always just switch to mining something else heh.

need more than just a no

Justintoxicated your right.. soon it will swap to POS (not piece of shit) which makes mining not possible. lots of other coins though (ZEC for example) which will be worth it IMO.

what do you have? visit whattomine.com. it will HELP you decide.

I'm building a mining rig for zcash (ZEC) with 6 1080 TIs as soon as I can get my hands on all the parts. From the online calculators, that one rig will profit me about a grand a month over electricity use. Gobyte (GBX) is an interesting newer coin that I'll keep my eye on as well. Some things to consider if you're going to build a 6 1080 TI rig (because I didn't think of them at first): make sure you have adequate power to safely power the miner and remember the 80% rule for continuous use. It's not safe to operate a miner that is pulling nearly 20A on a 20A circuit 24/7. You'd need to be on a dedicated 25A circuit at least to safely run a 20A miner 24/7. Good luck! I've had people try to talk me out of it, but the money is there to be made for the right coins.

Also, if you do choose ZCASH, I recommend trying to get tier 3 verified on www.kraken.com as soon as possible, as they are backlogged.

I would assume you get be pulling more than 1k in profit for my 11x 1060 3gb rig's + 1x 1080 and 1x 1080ti were doing 1k.

Yes.. I swapped over to ZCL for XYZ reason.. at this point since im close to going back to ETH im not going back to ZEC.

What is kraken? exchange?

Yes, $1K/ month is a pessimistic worst case rate. In reality, that box will net profit me more than that for now, once it's built. ZEC seems promising from what I understand. Kraken is an exchange that allows the full chain I need to get my money out of ZEC. ZEC to USD to bank account, but you need tier 3 verification to transfer money to a back account.

Also, I would recommend getting a hardware wallet like Trezor or Ledger. There are just too many horror stories of people losing a lot of money when a hard drive dies.

Thanks! IMO I would NOT do that - put all my eggs into a single exchange. exchange one site, move to another, cashout on that site.

Sot Bittrex --> Coinbase --> bank

I mean what's the danger other than you could lose your money from the site if they go offline or get hacked? I plan on only moving ZEC to Kraken when I'm ready to pull out some money, otherwise keeping it in a hardware wallet. I chose Kraken because they are one of the few that allows the full chain that I need for ZEC to USD to bank account.

now I follow. thats better.

I can't afford to build a real mining rig, but I could potentially buy a new 1080ti or next gen video card. Right now I still have a 290x. I'm looking for something I could mine with a single card, not trying to make $1000 a month or anything like that. I wish I could but my power bill would be like 3k a month if I ran 20 amps continuous. Power is currently 0.23 a kWh winter and .27kWh summer and it goes up to .47 to .55 depending on how much power I use. Right now I barely keep within the .23 /.27 watt range with my solar install.

So my take on mining is just to be collecting some coins that could become worth something someday, like what happened to litecoin, but I really don't expect much. I don't think I can mine ETH unless I pickup a used tesla Model S with free supercharging and leave it plugged into a supercharger somewhere with my mining rig in the frunk lol.

I do plan to get an electric car soon, which will qualify me for a particular TIme Of Use power plan that makes it expensive to have power 4-9pm but cheap to charge the car at night 9pm-something 7 or something like that. Maybe I could setup my rigs to only mine durring off-peak hours.

Maybe GoByte (GBX) is the coin you're looking for. It's a newer coin that may have potential, and can be mined decently with a single 1080 TI. Interestingly, I'm also in San Diego, but don't have an EV or plan on getting one anytime soon. Also, I will undervolt my 1080 TIs in the rig so that at most it would be around 16A continuous, which would be safe on an exclusive 20A circuit. Running a rig only at offpeak hours would be something to consider. It would take longer to payoff initial investment of the build, but could be quite profitable long term.

Me personally, I'm trying to setup 2 or 3 rigs as soon as feasible/possible.

Thank's I will look into GoByte then :) I will also consider a hardware wallet, although they seem kinda pricey vs just putting my wallet on a laptop or computer I don't use often and putting the private key in a safe somewhere. I don't have THAT much cryptocurrency :)

Yeah, the $100 or $200 seems expensive for a hardware wallet, but the people who've lost millions to a landfill hard drive probably regret not having a hardware wallet. I'm not thinking I'm going to get super rich overnight, but if the coins I choose to mine pan out, then I will have made some good money for sure. I'd rather have the money protected with a hardware wallet than not, but that's my preference.

You can just run NiceHash, it will auto-pick the most profitable coin at the time. I just started with it like 2 days ago, but it seems to be bringing in about $14/day on my Ryzen 1800X + 2x Vega 64.

This is my gaming rig, but I have a bunch of machines and I'm not gaming most of the time, so I'm putting it to use.

Also have a dedicated ETH + LBC miner with 6x GTX 1060 which is pulling in around $400/month give or take.

My 290x had a custom mining bios on it. Should I update it to something else? Is it even worth using this card anymore?

my 6x 1060 rig is pulling around 1k/month on mph https://imgur.com/nd723YX might wanna consider changing it up. Using bminer for equihash gave me a good jump in performance too.

With those power costs, you may just want to consider buying and trading coins. Getting in on the right alts early can be massively profitable, and your money will probably go much further.

Yea that would make sense except, I don't wanna invest any real money into crypto as i still don't trust it. However it might be an excuse to update my liquid cooling rig and heat the office in the winter :) This is coming from more of a tech enthusiast other than someone trying to get rich or substitute income. GoByte sounds interesting, like the new Vertcoin. Vertcoin didn't do so well though I guess because it was too decentralized? I dunno still researching. Decided to play with my litecoins instead of cashing them out. so I will try to get some other cryptos in that way too.

I also decided to go ahead and order a ledger wallet. Won't be here until mid april though....They are sold out everywhere.

This will also motivate me to fix my delidded 4770k, something happened to the liquid metal TIM I put on the block. perhaps it corroded the direct die cooling waterblock. I had to un overclock the CPU to get it stable again, but it was heating up like crazy compared to what it used to be like. Anyways need some motivation to fix it since I don't really game on my internet connection anymore.

Thanks for mentioning bminer. I may have to switch over from EWBF for zcash mining. I'll run some experiments tonight and over the weekend. :)

Folks are saying that bminer is a hair quicker than latest DSTM, but definitely quicker than latest EWBF.

PIRL. You can turn 2 coins a day with about 35mh/s and they have run up to almost 3$ a coin in the last month. Have been hanging in the mid 2 dollars over last week. Very interesting concepts behind it.

OK, well right now (because of the spike with ETH) I should get getting $525/month mining on Nanopool. But if I can make double that, yeah, I'll switch.

Can you give some more details? I assume mph is miningpoolhub? Are you mining a specific coin: Zcash, BitcoinGold, etc. or some auto-switcher? Please let me know, it would help a lot. Thanks.

Miningpoolhub is correct. I currently mine ZCL on there and autoexchange it to my preferred payout coin of VTC to avoid network fee's. I do check whattomine to see if there is another coin I should be mining. I look at last 7 days profitability though, not 24 hours. I've not got the time and energy to deal with changing pools so if the coin isn't on MPH I don't bother.

Just a heads up, you are double counting if you looking at the past 24 hours using the MPHstats website. Only count what you are getting credited for on your final auto-exchange coin--in this case, vert. There is no way you are doing $5.50/day per 1060 on MPH. Sorry.

If I enable vertcoin it shows double what I actually make....

The picture you quoted is my actual earnings with vertcoin disabled on mphstats

You must have the most magical 1060s in the world because there isn't a coin on MPH that is doing that kind of revenue a day for those cards.

I think exchange rates have just been working in my favor, I know I've been earning more than whattomine says I should be.

Ok if I go to whytomine, how do I get my hashrate? Also I'm still not sure what to mine. If I go with GBX which exchange and I use to trade it?

You can click the GPU you have and select how many and it will give an estimate of your hashrates.

ahh ok my card isn't listed 290x.

So I'm not really sure what to try to mine. Probably GoByte or ZCL. Not really sure what to do next though. I'm guessing I need to join a goByte pool any suggestions? Also do need a new version of ccminer? I was using cg miner before.

Looks like that pool only has 3 workers, it would probably take forever to mine anything.
