I plan on rolling up to Best Buy close to opening time with the hopes of getting a pro controller. There's also a GameStop near there, but parking sucks and I have a feeling there will be a pre-order mob. If all else fails, I'm gonna try Wal-Mart and Target, which aren't too much further.

I'm debating going to Walmart tonight after seeing Logan. Logan should end around 10 so it should only be a couple hours before the system releases. Either that or saying hell with it and coming home and spamming F5 on Amazon and other websites hoping to get one.

I have 4 pro controllers being delivered tomorrow (hopefully if best buy gets around to shipping them today). One is mine, another is my buddy's, but if you guys have trouble finding one let me know. I'll sell it to you at cost + shipping.

I should have done that, why in my dumb mind did I not preorder one lol

I tried to preorder one back when I got the Switch, but the option wasn't there. I think it just said "coming soon" or something like that. Seems like none of the online stores are doing preorders anymore but they are claiming a 3/3 release.

Zelda is at 98 on metacritic. The reviewers are like practically ejaculating on themselves over it. Switch is the best way to play Zelda. Your arguments for waiting fail.

Let us know how you find the system initially. Also post opening pictures, I feel like no one does that anymore!

Skyward Sword is at a 93. Was Skyward Sword that good? I remember enjoying it, but I kind of stopped playing in the middle.
I haven't completed a Zelda game since Ocarina of Time, because none of them gave me the feeling that Ocarina did. If Breath of the Wild is really the second coming of Ocarina of Time, then count me in!

edit - Maybe I just need to accept that fact that nothing will ever top Ocarina of Time. There's so much childhood nostalgia attached to that game that I'm never going to be able to experience again as a grown ass man. :(

Link to the past 10/10
Link between worlds 10/10(for nostalgia like you and Ocarina lol)

They are comparing this one to A Link to the Past. I agree Skyward sucked.

I am playing through Twilight Princess now. What did you all think of that one?

I loved it when I originally played it on Wii, but the remaster on Wii U fell short. It feel like the pacing was too slow. I would rank them as follows:

1. Ocarina of Time 3D
2. A Link to the Past
3. A Link Between Worlds
4. Twilight Princess
5. The Legend of Zelda
6. Windwaker
7. Minish Cap
8. Zelda II

I would say Twilight Princess is awesome but it doesn't quite stand the test of time like Ocarina. Ocarina got a better remaster on 3DS.

I play Link Between Worlds several times a year and typically run through Ocarina 3D twice a year. I have no plans to play Twilight Princess or Windwaker again anytime soon.

I pre-ordered my Switch through Best Buy and the system just showed up at my office.....too bad I won't have Zelda until tomorrow..GAH!

I guess I'm falling for the marketing, and money is just burning a hole in my pocket. Outside of Zelda, which I'm more just curious about than actually a fan of (while I loved the 2D Zeldas, I never could stand the 3D ones), there aren't really any games that I'm after. I know I would just buy the Switch & Zelda, hook it up, play 5 minutes of Zelda, and put it away, but then again, I'm also the type of person who has Titan XP SLI, and currently not playing any game which a 1080 couldn't even max out on. I guess I'm more interested in just having it than actually ever using it.

I did stop by Walmart & Game Stop an hour ago, and there weren't any lines, but perhaps they gave tickets or something. Then again, Game Stop around me claims they never have any new releases for a month unless you preorder a game...

Gave my Walmart a call once I got out of the movie. They had 14 to sell and the line was around 10 long. Said fuck it and came home. By the time I got there 4 more people probably would have shown up.

I got one! Best Buy waited 2.5 hours in the cold freezing my sack off. Got a ticket around 9:30. They had about 20 or so. I was 9 in line.

Managed to snag one from Walmart.com during the short time they were available. Should have it on Monday. Even got 15% off thanks to discount code Walmart is running right now. Got the red and blue one. Would have rather had the grey one, but whatever. I'll take what I can get.

Well, went ahead and purchased the bundle from Gamestop. More than just the machine, as it included the Pro Controller and Zelda, but I would have purchased those anyway.

I have a Switch on PreOrder that I'll likely pick up tomorrow from Gamestop, Zelda is pre-ordered too from Amazon, as is the Zelda Guide (Collector's edition). Kind of pissed at Amazon - I originally pre-ordered the standard edition guide and figured what the hell, I'd pay the 6 extra bucks or whatnot for the Collector's so I called Amazon and asked them to basically swap the editions. They claimed they were still available and would ship for release date delivery, so the rep canceled the Standard and had me place an order for the CE while we were on the phone. All looked well until an email arrives saying "Updated delivery date, March 8th". I'm going to have to call them tomorrow as I never would have made the switch if there was a delay. I'll check Gamestop and see how much their CE costs, but if they're charging like they usually do then forget it because its likely it will be twice the Amazon price.

One thing that is striking is the huge price of accessories and whatnot. The JoyCons themselves are expensive (plus you need to buy straps, making them more so if you are buying extras etc.), but the $30 charging grip is frustrating considering that the Switch was always advertised with the charging grip as a default feature more or less, so getting a non-charging variety at pack in is disappointing. The Pro Controller really sticks out on price at $70 - that's pretty excessive compared to say, the XBOne and PS4 controllers which sold at most for around $50 and can be picked up for $35+ regularly now. I really hope all the Switch controllers are just as Bluetooth "friendly" as the WiiMote Plus of the past, and will be usable easily on PC. I'm tempted to grab a Pro Controller, but I wonder how the experience will be compared to using a "joined" set of JoyCons and if its really necessary for a title like BotW.

Oh and for anyone who has a Zelda BotW Special or Master edition - if anyone is willing to sell the Switch "Sheikah Slate" Case, I'd be willing to buy. Just send me a PM and I can help you recoup a couple of bucks!

Edit: Oh, Derangel - do you know what kind of code is necessary for the Walmart 15% off promo and can it be used on anything? Thanks.

I agree it seems the fourmla got stale to me after TP. I picked up skyward sword and was bored of it before even finishing the 1st dungeon. It was the first Zelda I didn't beat. BofW looks cool and a break from the old forumla and looks fresh. I don't find it worth buying a switch for it atm. No other games interest me.

They are actually in stock at multiple walmarts around me right now, but I can't bring myself to dump $400 on a system to play one game (especially when I have Majora's Mask, Windwaker, Twilight Princess at my house right now unplayed)

A crowd of maybe 10 people were not waiting for the system but for Zelda instead. I think there was about 20 copies of Zelda or more in the case.
Unless they all had pre-orders. There was 3 switches in the case yet when I left I'm sure they will be gone by today.

No way in hell would I buy this system =)

This is basically me (also the PC specs part), but with the addition of the PS4 Pro I just upgraded to from the Slim the other day. I've got so many god damn games to play, I don't even know where to begin. Sure, I could go out and grab the Switch right now, but that would diminish the time I portion out to the 20 games I'm actively playing. I can't keep track of all the stories and controls anymore! Not to mention, I'm at Minish Cap in my Zelda to-do list, and that's so far back (I'd like to play every single one of them in the order they came out).

I think a lot of people are in the same boat as me, waiting until their backlog goes down significantly, or some summer/holiday sale.

TRIPLE15. It works on your first three free 2-day shipping orders.

Got up at 4:40AM, got to Target around 5:20AM in 17F temps, stood outside with a friend until they opened at 8AM, then picked up a Switch with my frozen body right after the doors opened. There were 13 or so people in like buying consoles, Target had 15 total consoles.

Yeah you only have one set of eyeballs to focus on one screen at at time. My Backlog is just as bad I put my Steam games on Favorites and use post it notes. Even if I did have the time I wouldn't be able to play complete half of them.

My console and Zelda are out for delivery, and the wait is killing me. I don't work Fridays, so I have plenty of time to play. Hurry up and get here, dammit!

I have to work today and my delivery is scheduled for 3-6PM, so I can't complain.
I just traded my WiiU for some rare beers, so things are all good :p Wal-Mart is now listing the Pro Controller as being available, but pick-ups aren't available until next week. Guess I'll try Best Buy at lunch.

This weekend is going to be epic! Can't wait to get this hooked up to my Plasma and uber sound system. So far I played an hour of Zelda on the built in screen, which is very good. The machine is very fast in terms of the UI and load times. Very, very fast. Very ergonomic in the hand. If you hold it at the right distance the 720P resolution is pretty good...1080 would have been better.

Online and setup worked perfectly and I was up and running in five minutes.

However, the unit is expensive. With Zelda, joycon charge grip, and pro controller (haven't even opened it yet) plus an extra AC adapter for my nightstand (dock is going downstairs on the big daddy plasma) I rang up a $500+ bill. Add a second dock for upstairs and you are approaching $600. But, the system is premium. It is very, very well designed.

I am very glad I decided to wait 2.5 hours in line at Best Buy in 23 degree weather because this may be the best gaming weekend ever!!

Just remember, perceived resolution is a product of how far from the screen you are, so don't hold it right in front of your face or it is a little jaggy. But at optimal distance the image locks in.

Also, the smaller your HDTV the sharper this will look. At slightly less than 1080p, you won't want to be right on top of a 60 inch screen, you'll want to sit back a bit. It is going to be epic on the right setup.

How's the audio output for the Switch? The WiiU output everything as PCM, which is why Netflix only worked in stereo. Does the Switch use one of the compressed multi-channel formats like Dolby or DTS?

5.1 Linear PCM but not sure what format.

The headphone jack was sufficient to power my Sennheiser HD600 cans. The Grado PS1000 cans would perform even better but I balanced them and need an adapter to get them back to single ended.

However, I will advise on sound quality after I get my dock connected to my TV...and THESE SPEAKERS :):

All the positive Zelda reviews is really pushing me to get one. I could be sitting in the office Zelda-ing it up right now. :-(

I said that, but then I thought about getting it anyway. When I got to Walmart, they weren't actually in stock. What they showed in stock was the pre-orders that had not been picked up yet...bastards wasting my time.

Just picked mine up from bestbuy, took 2 minutes for the preorder process. Needless to say nobody has any accessories at all, i ordered a pro controller from walmart, it should be here wednesday. Nobody else even has it in stock to order :(

They actually had a cancellation, and the manager was asking people who wanted a switch. Some younger dude and his dad got it, kid looked thrilled. I don't think he realizes how lucky he is.

Guy at Walmart said they were getting more in next week, so hopefully the supply outpaces demand in the next month.

All the accessories were in stock at Best Buy ad midnight last night, it was fun people were raiding the place. The only thing that I can't find is an extra dock. I have to admit there was a moment in line last night when I thought I was going to freeze to death but best buy actually handled it well and there was tons of Zelda schwag everywhere in the store, and people wearing Zelda hats and stuff. It was definitely the most hard core thing I have ever done in my 30 years of gaming, but it was so worth it.

The key is getting to someone who will tell you where the stock is going to be.

I think you guys looking for units should focus on Best Buy, and figure out which best buy in the area has their act together on this. They were very helpful, and I was able to figure out where to be and when.

In the Chicago suburban area call Vernon Hills or Gurnee. I got good intel from them and I got a unit as a result.

I am not saying all the Best Buy's are helpful, but if you call around you will eventually get someone on the phone who will help you figure out which store is going to have stock.

Gamestop and the other retailers really were not helpful at all, but Best Buy came through.
