Best cpu cooler !

Hi

I am buying a new pc with kaby lake cpu and i think im
gona buy this cooler http://noctua.at/en/nh-d15s.html also because im using a noctua cooler now for my intel cpu
and its a great cooler. But then there are these liquid coolers from corsair and thermaltake and...

So i am in doubt now...i like the mounting part on the liqued coolers but they seems to be more noisy and dont even cool
the cpu better then noctua coolers...so what should i pick ?



Any suggestions fo rmy new cooler ?

 
You are going to get biased opinions on both sides of this coin. I personally believe that liquid coolers are the way to go, others feel that certain air coolers do the job just as well.

Damn skippy you are! Its awesome! I have one myself. And it will cool just as good and even better than most AIO's, like the H100i.

16-20 idle temps on my 6700k
60-67 load temps on a 4.5ghz overclock & I don't even run the Noctua AF-14 PWM fans a max speed. Using Noctua's thermal paste that came with it. Of course your results may vary according to your ambient temps in your room. I usually keep it around 78F. Best thing about the NH-D15 is that its very quiet & does its job well & I don't ever have to worry about a pump fail or a leak. If the fans somehow break, it will still cool the cpu without them. Mounting it was also a breeze, took 5min.

hmm i am also more in to the air coolers than these liquid scoobasteve looking coolers.

Looked on the scyte but even the noctua cooler has lower dba and they also fixed the ram space problem with the fence and fans
 
There's no denying that Noctua makes the best coolers and even fans out there. I'm sorry but none of the companies come even close to their quality, compatibility and service in case you need additional brackets or a new mounting kit.
 
How much height clearance do you have in your case?
Do you have a place to mount a radiator?

I prefer air over water (easier to deal with in general and quieter at idle) but water may be the best solution if you have limited height but room for a cooler, while if you have a large height clearance, you can fit some pretty nice air coolers.

Best-case scenario for silence is a large tower cooler (well reviewed, of course; I like Noctua's) and low-RPM 140mm fans. Noctua generally ships theirs with low noise adapters, which I wholeheartedly recommend if you aren't overclocking.


And if you want to go whole-hog into silent cooling, and have 160mm of room, I like my Heligon HE-02 heatsink. It's designed to passively cool 95w processors. Though in practice, it won't really have enough cooling without some air on it, so a low-rpm case fan mounted right next to it generally keeps it cool enough.

Though the HE-02 is a *giant* piece of metal and truly a bear to install. Though it looks pretty impressive once it's in there (just hope that you don't need to unplug or replug anything on your mb).

I'm currently using one in the Fractal Design Core 500, which is probably the most compact case that they sell that will house that monster of a heatsink. (though I'll soon step over to another NCase M1 for triple-slot GPU compatibility; Noctua makes some decent coolers that'll fit in the M1)

My OG H100 running push/pull with 4 fans has been a work horse on my 2700k for 5 years. That processor has not been clocked under 4.8ghz the entire time. If I was building a new system a Corsair AIO would get my money again.

Agreed, although I've only recently made the switch to water (maybe 4-5 months or so), I do love my H115i, air to air is in my rear view mirror from here on out. Typically my core's don't make it over 60* after all day gaming sessions, and I know I could go even higher if I ever wanted to, still plenty of headroom left.

Water gets my vote if you have the room for a rad, although you are looking at top quality air-to-air coolers too. I'd also say if you've never tried water before, now is the perfect time to try something new :D
