Vega countdown has appeared

I was kinda hoping it was actually a launch. So I guess we're looking at a other few months before they are released?
Release timeframe is 1H 2017 which probably means Computex.
There were zero expectations that Vega would be launching at CES, sorry if you thought that. :/

I have been waiting for so long to upgrade, as i have a free-sync monitor and dont want to switch teams just yet. my dual 290x/290 are good when they work together, when they don't its a glitch fest sometimes. I hope we get some kind hard info from AMD and not just internal features of vega.

some snippets of stuff I spotted in the background.

not sure what this is aboot...

Ruby was there!

lots of graffiti in the vid not sure what it all means, if anything... there is "k6op" or "k60p" repeated several times on one wall.

more stabs at nv and they better be right aboot the VR this time!

hmm its never a good sign of this much amount of marketing for an unreleased product :/

And its never a good sign to talk shit about competitor's products

I would expect marketing to market something...
Still I am excited about this. I doubt I will be changing GPUs but who knows, I would rather be wrong about that.

Nah not like this, look back when AMD had videos and talking shit about others products, and doing all those kinds of stuff, they never had good products.

Funny thing is no one knows what volta is, but they didn't put pascal up there? What does that mean, Pascal is still going to trump them? Or are they trying to distancing themselves from Pascal, but by using Volta, that means they are supremely confident of their product to take out Volta, that isn't even remotely realistic.

Just watch the people hype this thing to be a Volta killer just because of this stupid marketing campaign.... over hype and kill Vega's launch.

Marketing teams change often. I wouldn't put a historical credence to the graffiti and stickers in a promotional video. I will wait for this site to review it.

well most of us will (the ones that have level heads and understand what possibilities are there for Vega) lol, but just wait till the crazy of AMD loyalists get their propaganda machines, to over hype the crap out of Vega. It happened with Polaris and AMD even tried to avoid that. This time they are pushing right into people's faces by saying the things they are. I think its going to back fire big time again.

PS its always bad marketing when as a company they need to compare and talk shit about competitor's products, that means the products can't speak of themselves, they need other ways to get sales......

What did I say about Polaris marketing, when ya need to explain your marketing tactics to your consumers you have already lost.

It would have to be an AMAZING product for me to ever consider using AMD again for anything. Their hardware in the last decade has been subpar, and that's being nice.

^ Elite nonsense.

What's the last thing from AMD you owned and what nvidia do you own now?

Outside of their CPU's the graphics cards had some good GPU's in the past decade.

So like when NV was marketing Kepler saying 'we expected [AMD's card] to be faster than that'? Was that a bad sign too?

Check my sig. I do tons of research before I build computers. And I've built at least 6 top end gaming rigs in the last 10 years. Not including several HPTC's, servers, and lower end builds for friend and families. There hasn't been a single time in the past decade where said research has given me any reason to even consider AMD. There may be niche builds where AMD offers something worthy, but not in the gaming arena or anything I've researched. I wish they would come out with some good gaming hardware. Nvidia has been on top for too long and that's not good for anybody.

And yeah, I now realize this is the AMD forum, so I know where this is going to go. I should have paid closer to attention when I found this thread from New Posts.

Yes what happened, they were one quarter late lol. nV was down talking GCN while they played catch up. Also nV lost marketshare around 4% if I remember correctly during that quarter, and their product didn't distance themselves away from the 7xxx series, AMD was able to release a ghz edition that competed with Titan. Nothing special from nV outside of a slight power consumption advantage, does that sound like they weren't impressed after the fact? Nope, it pushed nV.

And one had nothing to do with the other. So just reading between your lines, it doesn't sound like you would say it was a 'bad sign' when NV was flapping their lips regarding AMD's product. Is this correct?

If I was posting at that time I would have, I wasn't on any forums for 7 years, only came back about year and half ago ;).

So can you pray tell and give me examples of great launches without talking shit about competitor's products. I can list a ton of them, the only ones I can say that had problematic launch, they needed to get marketing to do the talking for the products.

Just as an example do you see Zen being talking about like this? I feel Zen could actually be good for AMD from what they have shown for now, they haven't talked shit about Intel products, but they got their point across without marketing getting involved yet.

So why is AMD now going back down the path of this type of marketing to get attention for their products? Odd isn't it? I feel its awkward. There seems to be a divergence in the way AMD is marketing their CPU's vs GPU's, one way works well, the other if those things are taken the wrong way, can backfire big time just like they have done in the past.

I'm sorry, was there an answer hidden within the spin somewhere? Did NV talking shit about AMD products for the launch of Kepler turn out to be a bad sign or not IYO?

already answerd, read the first response added to that, while you were quoting me.

It just goes to show ya, talking shit about competitors products, means the company doing it is not in a comfortably situation.

So can you tell me examples of great launches without companies talking shit about each others products? The list is quite large...... So pick a launch out of a hat.

Lets go back to down memory lane, do you remember what the CEO of nV stated about the x8xx series from AMD? Yes please look back. And then compare the 6800 launch to the x8xx launch and then tell me if the 6xxxx gen represented what the CEO stated

Are you kidding? lol So you are suggesting Kepler was NOT a successful product, and talking shit about AMD's products was because they new Kepler was a failure. Got it.

Why does every thread start in to a fuckin they must not have anything good because they are doing marketing?

Its just a damn video, good lord. Enjoy it for what it is, I actually thought it was cool, lol. But all these conspiracy theories, must not be good. Samsung, Apple market the shit out of their product, are they not good? You can't just judge a product on a damn video. Get over it. Enjoy the new year.

Keplar was nothing special, AMD was beating Keplar of the most part, outside of power consumption.

I don't think at any point they are talking shit about nvidia. That is just their marketing now and thats how they go about their brand. I threw in a xfx rx 480 8gb in one of my computers for 198 out the door. Tell me if thats a bad deal. This runs comfortably at 1350mhz core sustained all day long. I'll let one of my rigs join Radeon Rebellion for that price lol..

Its how they are marketing that is a bad thing.

Lets take cars for example, do you see Mercedes talking like that about BMW or Audi, or vice versa?

lets take your job for example. Would talk shit about a person who is at equal level to you, to your boss to get a promotion? Would you do that to up sell yourself? I can tell you it is frowned upon. Personally have never done anything like that, but I have seen others try to do it and its always back fired.

When some one or a product is capable of competing or in this case beating another, there is not need to hype or in this case overhype a product, cause it doesn't work.

Just like when AMD's residential marketing crap fest stated nV wasn't interested in the TAM, they were only interested in AI in cars, remember all that? That really panned out in AMD's favor *sarcasm*.

And did you see nV outside of performance graphs in slides talk about Polaris? Did they have to? Nope and the 1060 is outselling the rx480....

how can you buy one before their release lol?

Just asking....... ;)

I caught the funny in that guess you didn't.

I know he was trying to be funny, but it came out like being someone that doesn't want to talk about something he seems to want to talk about then going down another road of being flippant when he can't seem to respond to the examples that we have in the past.

I was being straight forward with my response to what his statement really meant.

BTW if anyone can read latin there is more to what AMD stated...... or at least marketed there.

Yes they are saying they caught nV, sleeping on Volta......

Lets see if that comes out true........

I knew the release rumors for the last few months have been the first half of 2017. I was just saying that when I saw the thread I was hoping it was about a launch. And I just kinda think making a big countdown thing like this seems kind weird just for a preview that won't show us shit really. Maybe it's the norm, I don't know. Maybe the only reason I'm noticing this launch a little more is because AMD hasn't had a high end card out for a while (Fury X doesn't count cause it was slower and more expensive than its Nvidia counterpart) and Vega has been anticipated for a while.

Sometimes, it almost feels like AMD has given up and they are just having a party to see what shit sticks.

Like #BetterRed, what kind of a stupid hashtag is that. Drop 1 r as a typo and they have been #bettered.
