Dishonored 2

I'd rather keep HBAO on and go to FXAA High so I don't have soft, blurred out vaseline type effect on everything I'm looking at.

I was trying to show the aliasing that occurs along something as simple as ceiling tiles.

This is a video of some amazing NPC guard action:

Is this the same as in first game, that when you don't want to go stealth and start fighting soldiers, you get only bad ending? This was, what put me away from 1st part - I hate stealth - I prefer to go guns blazing and full combat. But, if the game punishes me for it and forces me to play stealth, I'm not touching it.

Play a different game.

...or you can just go bonkers killing everyone and just settle for the "bad" ending. Not like you can't just watch any other ending cinematics online anyway.

It's still fun as hell to do it that way and probably part of the incentive for replays. For now I'm trying to do low chaos but damn it... they just make it *far* too easy to start getting lethal big and fast.

Save it for another play through. Emily's powers on lethal/high-chaos are a delight.

most games are a bit silly in that you can kill everyone without any real consequences, assuming they are not "quest givers"
here you have some consequences, not realistic, but consequences none the less

for a game that allows equal effectiveness stealth or guns blazing you can try MGSV:TPP.
You can stealth people or alternately wound people to capture them

I prefer to play exactly how I want, and get the ending I get as a consequence. Well, in most games anyway. In Mass Effect games for some reason I'm always paragon... In Dishonored though, I killed people if I felt like it, used stealth when I thought that was a better option, and made decisions based on who I liked better when it was a choice. For example Granny-whatsits started to grate on my nerves after a while, so I killed her and helped out the distillery guy even though I knew that's not what the game wanted me to do if I was being good. However, I helped out other people, tried to be good in other ways. I got a mixed ending, and that was fine with me. I also didn't kill people left and right, but killed anyone that directly attacked me, or if it was strategically easier.

There's really no reason to do one or the other entirely unless that is your specific goal for that play. Just play the game and enjoy it how you want to play it.

I think I'm going to play as Corvo for my first run...I just finished a playthrough of the first game so the world and characters are fresh in my mind...hopefully D2 has a lot of callbacks and easter eggs to the original game...seems like Corvo might be best for Low Chaos and Emily best for High Chaos

That's what I'm doing and so far there's plenty of nice continuity with the first game.

Very impressed with level designs and scenarios. I definitely have felt there was some Thief salute... there's an asylum level that definitely had a little Shalebridge going for it... stuff like that.

How long did your run take you? I went with Emily (ghost and non-lethal) this time around, as I feel like it's her crown to take back (and we all know Corvo is already capable). I just got to Karnaca docks (Steam says I've played for nine hours LOL) and my playtime in the save game is about an hour or so (gave up trying to find all coins in the first areas) and frames have tanked hard. Looking over at the whale on the docks, my previous 80-ish frames dropped to 40 or so.

I did also trigger a fight with the Grand Guard and taking on about seven or eight at the same time, the frames also went to hell.

I want to keep playing but the inconsistency is just bad.

(This happened no matter what I set the graphics settings to, and for a while I was on "Medium" across the board and didn't notice.)

Sorry for taking so long to respond Ghost, I've been engrossed, lol.

So my first play through on PC was roughly 42hrs. I did try to search every nock and cranny, but I missed stuff I'm finding in my second run.

My first run was Corvo, non-lethal, undetected, but I did play with some combat for some of the trophies. My second run is on my new PS4 Pro, which does look much better than the standard PS4 on a 4k, HDR TV. This run was with Emily and also full stealth, though in the same way, I did play with combat again. Frankly both are a blast to play both ways! I'm truly impressed with the balance they've accomplished, there must have been a ton of play testing.

I've found one bug that is really torturing me. On both platforms I've found it impossible to get through "Royal Observatory" with the non-lethal option without a death or two showing up in my Stats. Here is what I think is going on for those of you going for the "Clean Hands" achievement:

With Corvo I ignored most enemies and knocked out the rest (verifying after each KO). When I activate the machine to severe the head witch from the Void, a kill showed up in my end report. I discovered one of the Witches was standing on a turtle statue outside, and when they all fall unconscious, she falls to her death.

With this in mind, for my second run I painstakingly KO'd EVERY SINGLE ENEMY, and made sure they were left in safe, out of the way places. Especially 2 witches that were perched on a chandelier that I assumed would also fall to their death and ruin my no kill streak. However, when I activated the machine this time, 2 deaths showed up (I was so ticked). I went back assumed London checked every body, assumedlsondnd the 2 witches that used to be on the chandelier were showing up as dead. Now when I KO'd them, I linked them with Domino and chocked one. The other fell back on the chandelier instead of falling to the floor. I think the game is coded as such that if you move them off the chandelier, the game sees them as fallen. I'm going to try and put them back tonight and retry the machine. I will let you know what I come up with.

Trying for nonlethal. You get him in the electroshock chair and then set the bays to Anatomy and Optics (either order, I've done both) to get enough power to the chair. Flip the switch, it works, he responds... everything seems right except the "quest" never closed out and it still says power up the electroshock machine like nothing ever happened.

What do I do?

Yikes, didn't experience that with either of my runs. I'm sure you've already tried reloading a save, but that's all I can think to suggest.

Both Bays are only showing one power bar after reconfiguring, correct? The game then gives you a verbal notification that you have enough power. Can't see how it would have let you proceed otherwise, so I'd have to agree you've run into a bug. If reloading a previous save doesn't do it, then it might be time to log a support ticket.

Yeah mission select, which was in the first one, may have helped here.

(Although to be honest it was highly unclear in the first game what stats you were carrying over when you selected a mission to play or re-play.)

I've gotten into the habit of making a permanent save at the start of each chapter for this reason. However it's a poor substitute, because a Chapter Select would allow you to replay a single mission to fix a mistake that screwed a whole playthrough. The save just let's you go back to the mission your messed up, but you then still have to finish the rest of the game to get credit for it.

Also, the game is holding your "lifetime" stats and "playthrough" stats which accumulate player deaths even if you re-load an earlier save after you die. Fun, but not sure how useful it is since I screw around A LOT (last night I decided to unlock some powers and went wild with Domino).

As for the beta patch that's out on Steam, I think things are better but I'm unsure if it's the Nvidia hotfix or the patch itself. I find with both friction and sensitivity to zero, the mouse movements are a bit too jittery. When I picked (randomly) 50 on both, sure there's some slop but things actually are a bit smoother. I'll get more time this weekend to play with it and possibly move beyond the second mission and just screwing around (which it's so so easy to spend time doing).

I hear the beta patch is an improvement but the game still needs more work...hopefully next week's final 1.2 patch will be a big one...I'll start to play the game when that patch hits...I just finished my playthrough of DisHonored 1 and I still have the 2-part Daud DLC to go through so I don't mind waiting a few more days

Do the DLC. Daud's story is great, the spin on the Outsider's powers is great, and it'll introduce Delilah.

I said the hell with it, did this item even though the glitch keeps happening, and then I left the area and finished the level.

It cancelled out that particular item as either a negation or quest failure. Too bad. I'm moving on with the playthrough.

I finally a got a bit of time with this today, and so far I'm absolutely loving it. It's smooth as silk too. Latest NV driver as of this evening, menu mouse glitches patched out, etc. I have most settings on ultra except a couple, and HBAO is off at the moment. Haven't tried with it on yet, but the game is beautiful at these settings. Just getting used to the character art style again. Anyway, so far so good. No issues. Gonna get back to it.

Seeing mostly positive feedback on what's currently a beta patch in terms of improved performance and other odds and ends.

Pretty sure the "Talk to Vasco" quest step ("The Good Doctor") bugged for me. I did talk to him, but have a blue line through that step, not a green checkmark. Not a big deal, but annoying (it's required for the Special Action "The Three Witnesses").

Also what's with the ~20 saves limit. Not enough to have a pre and post save for every level + a working set. It's not a size thing, there's a 1GiB allocated by steam but only ~13MiB used for me.

And just to continue the complain train, it annoys me that they changed the voice actor for The Outsider from Billy Lush to Robin Lord Taylor. He was the one awesome character, and it's just not the same...

Yup. Performance is a bit better for me on my GTX 970. Still have to keep textures on medium to get a more consistent 60 FPS but there is less stutter.

I hope the bigger patch next week improves performance even more. I'm loving this game.

It's one of my top games of the entire year like I expected. This New Game+ and custom difficulty concept forthcoming sound good as well.

Of course at some point we'll have some nice DLC to look forward to just like they did on the first game. Great stuff. :)

New patch in Steam available. 1.2 beta? Unknown specifically what it does that I've found.

Update 1.2 known issues:
  • Incorrect labels in the Options menu:
---- “Windowed Mode” should be “Display Mode”
---- “Adaptive Resolution FPS Threshold ” should be “Adaptive Resolution FPS Target ”
---- “Borderless windowed mode ” should be “Borderless Fullscreen ”
---- “Field of Vision” should be “Field of View ”
---- “God Rays” should be “Light Shafts ”
---- Adaptive Resolution FPS Threshold setting is not accurately reflected in the Visuals menu after restarting the game when FPS Limiter is used.
---- Adaptive Resolution FPS Threshold becomes locked to the previous FPS Limiter setting when V-sync is enabled.
---- Workaround: Toggle V-sync off, then change the FPS Limiter to the desired setting before re-enabling V-sync.
  • A visual distortion may occur at the bottom of the screen when toggling Triple Buffering while in-game.
---- Workaround: Toggle Triple Buffering at the Main Menu, or turn it off then back on while in-game to remove the distortion.
  • The in-game Framerate may remain locked to 60 FPS when the V-sync setting is set to Full on a monitor that supports higher than 60Hz refresh rates.
---- Workaround: Disable V-sync and manually set the FPS Limiter setting to higher than 60 to achieve Framerates above 60 FPS.
  • The FPS Limiter setting only displays text in English and is not localized.
---- Workaround: None. Localization is expected to be implemented in a future update.
  • The Adaptive Resolution setting will change to display as Manual when exiting and re-entering the Visual settings menu after setting it to Always.
---- Workaround: None. This is a visual issue with the menu. The Adaptive Resolution setting will still be enabled and set to the default for the Always setting.
  • Keyboard and Mouse controls may display latency in menus and during gameplay when V-sync is set to Half.
---- Workaround: Either Disable V-sync or change the setting to Full.
  • Framerate may not be accurately locked to 30 FPS when setting V-sync to Half
---- Workaround: Disable V-sync and change the FPS Limiter setting, or increase the V-sync setting.
  • Multiple confirmation prompts may appear when cancelling a change to the Triple Buffering Setting.
---- Workaround: None. Cancel the prompt again until it no longer appears.
  • Framerate may be decreased when using V-sync without Triple Buffering Enabled
---- Workaround: Enable Triple Buffering to see if that increases performance, or disable V-sync.
  • Controls may become locked if a controller has been disconnected while the game is running
---- Workaround: Use Alt+Tab to leave the game window then return, or reconnect the controller.
  • Setting the Adaptive Resolution to Off changes the Adaptive Resolution FPS Threshold to 29.
---- Workaround: None. This is a visual issue with the menu and does not affect the actual in-game Framerate.

This is good news. Will have to give this a go in the next few days. I liked what I saw from the tutorial, but the weird stutter kept me from jumping in with both feet. Hopefully they're on their way to totally fixing that.
