I hate talking about anything political but, when you have the co-founder of Hyperloop saying he is very serious about funding a legitimate campaign for California to become its own nation, its going to make news. I just want to know why this was "crazy talk" when Texas talked about it but it is "very serious" (and even has a name already) when California talks about it.

In the wake of the election result, Hyperloop co-founder Shervin Pishevar (pictured, right) began tweeting about his desire to see California secede from the United States. Naturally, it was dismissed as emotions running high after the highly divisive campaign, but Pishevar isn't backing down. At the Web Summit conference today, the billionaire was asked if he was serious about "Calexit*," to which he said that he was "very serious." He added that there would be "announcements" about his plans to implement the program coming in the near future.

It is a sham... these are the same folks a few years ago that wanted to do it for tax purposes since they didnt want to help the rest of California pay debts. They either wanted 5 states breakup of cali or have cali be its own country (tax evasion/lower taxes etc). Now that its trendy to be anti trump its gaining momentum as anti-bigotry but it really is the same folks that do not want to pay taxes or help the rest of the state (they do want the water, military and disaster help right?) ... so it would be a joke to the rest of cali if it happened since they would lose out on much more than they have now.

Wait a minute .. do we honestly care? I don't see how this country will function with their budget.

The Republican's shouldn't care because this state always goes to the Dems, so it makes winning way easier.

50 nations states instead of 1 big country might actually be a better form of government at this time... The problem is that the Federal Government has made us dependent on it.

If it wasn't for the bay area and LA, this would likely be a battle ground state.

If it looked like they where going to some how pull this off, I would leave.
Between the Democrats, the government worker unions, and all the money in silicon valley, the rest of us don't stand a chance.
They say they care for the poor, yet the wage gap in California is one of the largest of any state.
The high cost of living and the over bearing nanny state is just getting to be much.
Just hope I can manage for another 10 years or so, then I can sell my over priced home and have a comfortable retirement somewhere cheaper.

Let's see --- They do have the biggest economy and most people in the US. They don't have nearly enough electricity or water to support themselves. They have a high debt problem and their social structure cost is very high. Their education system is ranked number # 40 (out of 50 - - Texas is ranked 21 by comparison). They do grow a huge amount of the fruits and vegetables in this country. They also have some of the largest ports around.

Overall there's plusses and minuses. Personally, I say good-riddance. We can shut down the water at the Arizona border and charge them a boat-load for the electricity they need. Then we could just irrigate Arizona and grow all the crops we needed. Heck, a lot of the farmland in California is desert. We have plenty more of that in the southwest US. :) Maybe we could make Californians get passports and visa's before entering the rest of the country????

Please! Let them become their own damn nation. They do nothing but suck the life out of everywhere else, or even worse, disperse their idea's where it's not really welcome.

Begone with them I say!

Bonus - Democrats may never win another election bwahahahahaha.

As long as we build a very tall wall all along the Kalifornia border and we declare them an enemy of the state then I'll back it.

Don't see this happening myself but I can see why they would want to. Racist president who wishes to ban 1.6 billion people from entering our country. Wants to build a wall high enough and deep into the earth enough to block all of Mexico from entering our country, illegal or not. Why on earth would someone want to leave all this, Make America Great Again. I'm not going anywhere but I can see why people are upset. I am pale of skin so I'm not in fear of deportation but I know a ton of people that are and the only people I know are actually documented residents or simply citizens of the U.S.. Profiling has been going on for a long time. The only thing that can be done now is as the ACLU is doing now, blocking unconstitutional amendments as they happen from the White House when it is his time to be in charge. I'm just glad my job is not in jeopardy and I have no family members in fear of being kicked out of this country.

California is overdue for being divided. Sane people to one half. Radical malcontents to the other half. Let the malcontents go wherever they want.

It's all just talk. It's like Texas saying it will secede. It's not going to happen, all this is just the media publishing any stupid thing tech moguls say.

The way Texas was formed and inducted into the union makes secession for them easier than any other state. This has LESS substance to it than when Texas threatened.

As already stated, they have to much debt and borrow WAY to much from the fed, which just goes to show how out of touch these people are. They do not have an economy to support it self, hell, they can't even do it as a state.

The formation of the NCR :p

Seriously, that would screw the rest of us over big time. Losing their 55 electoral votes would the rest of us all to a future permanent hate-filled political dominance.

Trust me, I understand the exasperation, but this is a terrible idea.

Thank Lincoln for that.

I don't see California being able to survive on its own. Just silly talk.

Shervin Pishevar is an Iranian American. He's afraid Trump will not help send billions of dollars to Iran like Obama did.
Plus Trump said that America will support it's ally, Israel, again. This also is a blow to Iran.
This guy should move back home if he does not like our political system.

No one else read the headline as [H]ardocp Co-Founder? IMO that's the more interesting story.

Yes! Scrolling thru the new posts feed and that's exactly what it looked like. Can't blame him. If I has the money, I'd pay for California to secede as well. Maybe take parts of Oregon with them.

Let them go. They said later on they would rejoin but i say once they are gone they can't come back.....

Dude, the article states that the guy's father fled to the U.S cause of Iranian Revolution.

Running a surplus at the sate level. Paying down Debt.
California contributes just under $300 Billion in taxes to the fed and puts more in than it gets back, so there's going to be a short fall there.
Oh 6th largest economy in the world. I think we can support ourselves just fine.

All that said, it's just some pissed off rich guy saying stuff that won't ever happen.

let them try, when the Federals roll in the tanks it will be a good popcorn moment...

I'm sure all those people in the South will laugh their asses off.
Too bad that state government loves to trample all over the 2A. The words "being necessary to the security of a free state" come to mind. Their population is so massive they could mount pretty strong resistance if they were actually armed.

We tried that when it was only 13 and it failed big time.

And the Iran they fled ceased existing for decades. Which is why they fled in the first place. If he likes the current regime in Iran he should move there.
