Apparently Facebook wants to compete with Craigslist and eBay with its new Marketplace feature. According to this blog post, Marketplace will be rolling out over the next few days in the US, UK, Australia, and New Zealand on the Facebook app for iPhone and Android.

To help people make more of these connections, today we’re introducing Marketplace, a convenient destination to discover, buy and sell items with people in your community. Marketplace makes it easy to find new things you’ll love, and find a new home for the things you’re ready part with. We’ll continue to build new options and features to make this the best experience for people.

How am I supposed to anonymously get cracked out hookers for cheap?

Now my friends will know. "Darunion recently just purchased a hooker, would you like to see?"

I find this funny. If anyone cares I recently threw up a webpage/blog where I highlight the cringeworthy crap I have been seeing on Marketplace.

If you care: Found On FB Market

The best part? Facebook has billions of dollars in assets!!!!

With all the advanced algorithms and policy policing Facebook does, I'm sure someone will say that Facebook should have vet'ted a person before they assaulted a fellow Facebook member during a trade of goods.

First question to ask - how much for the little girl? The women, how much for the women? I want to buy your women. The little girl, your daughters... sell them to me. Sell me your children!

Hmm. My town already has a marketplace group on Facebook, and it has had built in features for pricing, and marking things sold, etc.

So this seems like the next natural step. They already have the structure built into Facebook, so now make it more general and less tied to local groups.

I'm fine with it. As far as I see it, when I am selling my old stuff, the more eyeballs on it the better.

What could possibly go wrong. Imagine linking a CL listing to your FB profile.

Could actually make people more comfortable buying your cellphone, if they can pull up your FB profile and see that you don't look like you will rob/rape them.

On Craigslist you never know. Even if you make plans to meet in a well lit public place, things can go wrong.

This - there's been FB groups that do this for years already...so I'm surprised it hadn't been done sooner, really.

I'm wondering if this is also to compete with Neighborhood or whatever that new app that is popular is. My wife uses it cause people post pictures of garage sales in the neighborhood, so you don't have to go driving around. Also people bitch about each other a lot.
