I am having trouble finding vSphere Web Client 6.0. The vServer install has the standard client only. Any idea where to find it? I am getting a warning message that I need to use the web client in order to create a virtual machine with version 9+.

It should be accessible from the servers FQDN or IP:

https://<vcenter-name-or-IP>/vsphere-client

I have tried that, but no webpage is displayed. The ip address does work and directs me to links for the thick client, but not the web client.

I am not able to install the SSO as one of the components requires Windows Server 2008 or newer (running W7). That means I cannot install the web client from 5.5. That being said, if I try to create a version 9+ vm on my server, which is running ESXi 6.0, by using the thick client, will I actually not be able to advantage of some of the hardware as the warning implies?

You don't need the new hardware. The thick client will let you edit the settings that are not 9+but will all others now.

Yep, webclient is not available to stand alone vsphere installations, hasn't been since before 5.0 if I recall right. You have to use the thick client to manage it, or pay for the full Vsphere + Vcenter setup (last I recall that was like $650 minimum)

I think VMUG give you vcenter and Vsphere for 200 a year
