Star Citizen - media blowout, Chris Robert's new game

I still have mine from CitizenCon last year and I keep coming across my friends when I'm working on his PC. God I want an 890 Jump, but it would mean I would have to give up several of my current ships which I just don't want to do.

I originally had no plans to get the 890, but I figured I decided that it wasn't something I really want to work towards in game and it was a cool fluff piece to have. Plus a pirate 890 jump just sounded cool :) I had way to much little stuff anyway so it was easy to justify it lol

All I want is the Vanguard and BUK's and maybe the Endeavor or Crucible, but I'm not sure what I would melt to get those though, my Super Hornet, Cutlass Blue and 350R, and DUR are all on the chopping block.

Yeah, i Bought mine because it will be my personal flagship.

I got the Idris more to support the Org as a whole rather than me personally planning to operate it.

The 890 is the pride of my fleet.

I feel like of the ships you listed DUR, Cutlass Blue should be melted for the vanguard + BUKs

I was also happy to get my Phoenix and I really see no point for 2 of the same kind of ships. No I have a Gladiator and a Vanguard Warden with a Harbinger BFUK so I don't know what to do about that (or the various types of fighters and 2 racers).

uggg, Warden Q & A was worthless for me no relevant info for my questions other than the only way to keep LTI on the Warden config is to not upgrade it and buy the Harbinger and Sentinel BUKs since the Warden BUK will not come with it.

hmmm me thinks I'll just do a CCU to the Vanguard Warden from my Constellation once it's available. Hopefully they don't jack the price up, but that is wishful thinking lol... I wish they would just let me melt the stupid thing from my package and give my the equivalent credits, I just want the damned box and goodies :(

New Q&A up, #2

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/14935-Vanguard-Variant-Q-A-Part-2

Seems you can mix and match the kit parts (they break up if you want) and the cockpit differences like the retractable armor panels and AR stuff does change with the BUK.

It seems there are hull changes between the variants that the BUKs don't change like the extra armor of the Harbinger.

https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.com/discussion/comment/5570376/#Comment_5570376

So the questions that still aren't answered for me are what are the Hull differences and what doesn't change with the BUK..... I guess I'll just grab the kits and upgrades and melt them and unmelt them when they decide to tell us lol...

I wonder if CIG would be willing to change the one elements about BUKs that I dislike - they don't change the appearance of a given vessel. What we see from Vanguard Q&A's is that applying a BUK will mean adding many of the parts that will make one version into another, but it won't change some elements of the ship, visually. Will there be another set of customizations for this? If not, there are major implications for "variants" compared to "BUKs", which isn't a good thing. If someone applies the upgrade kit or whatnot, there should be some way for there to be the visual appearance to be altered as well so that it looks similar to a true variant. Likewise, if there are elements of hardware that BUKs do NOT convey, such as the Sentinel's "VR Cockpit" etc.. that furthers the very real difference between a "true" Sentinel and a Warden with some parts swapped in and out...which will also have the visual appearance of a Warden. Hope CIG is willing to change this.

I actually like owning both the Phoenix and the 890 Jump.

For me they do have some overlap (which is good) but also some key differences.

First thing that comes to mind with why i own a phoenix is the cost of entry to get it up and running in the PU will be cheaper than the 890 Jump, so it is more or less my entry level multi crew ship one that i can get up and running and more reliably pay for repairs or crew or other expenses it might have before i can field something as Expensive as the 890 Jump and hire more crew ect, and have a healthy credit reserve for fuel and repairs.

Another key difference is likely going to be combat just the way they handle in combat or their role will likely be different so depending on the mission or Org activity there is no point for me to bring the 890 if the phoenix can fill the combat role it needs too with much less expense and over head as well as crew requirements.

Another point for me deciding on wanting both is redundancy, at some point my 890 Jump is going to get blown up, and it will be nice to have the Phoenix as a solid second string so the crew can move over to the phoenix instead of waiting on Insurance to get me a new 890 Jump to minimize down time.

I have tried to minimize ship over lap as much as possible tho like getting rid of most of my small ships. And tried to get a ship in most size classes, atm the only thing i am really missing is a real Industrial power house of a ship, like an Orion/Reclaimer or a purely dedicated hauler, but i feel like most of my time is going to be spent on pirating/combat so not having those ships will likely be fine for me since i am sure our org will have no shortage of available crew positions on any given industrial platform.

So far my planned fleet:
Omega Package Mustang Omega (Alpha Access)
Omega Package CCU to M50
Omega Package CCU to Super Hornet
Vanguard Harbinger + Warden/Sentinel BUKs
Constellation Phoenix
890 Jump
Idris-P

I feel like it gives me enough scaling to let me dip my toes in all the ship ranges, from small fast fighting in the M50, slightly heavier combat platform like the Super Hornet, to the much heavier vanguard platform for long range hard hitting combat. Then i have the Phoenix as my smaller real multi crew ship, 890 is about as large of a ship as i would want to operate on a daily basis. Idris will likely be stored in an Org hangar so its accessible to the Org 24/7 with sufficient org rank even when i am not on.

There's another free-to-fly for Dragoncon going on now. It's not all the ships but includes the Gladius.

The other night I was screwing around in Free Flight, which seemed pretty busy with increased player counts. People swap ships to try out things like my rented Glaive or just mess around.

A bunch of us piled into a Cutlass to simulate some multicrew, I sat on one of those foldout seats in the cargo room. When you look at the ship in 3rd person it's doing all kinds of crazy maneuvers, then back in first-person you can't even really tell the ship is moving while you are in the cargo area. I'm chilling back there and suddenly the whole back area blows off, I'm still on my seat somehow looking right at a planet, everyone else that was back there blew out. Crazy, that ship is a deathtrap :)

Hey guys! As you know, we try to honor requests from our dedicated backers to unmelt pledge packages and addon ships whenever possible. Unfortunately, CS is still overwhelmed with game support tickets coming out of Gamescom and then the social module launch. For the time being, we are going to put a hold on any unmelt requests. We know you guys want ships (and we want to sell them to you!:)) but we need to help out folks having issues visiting ArcCorp first.

If you have a current unmelt ticket, we're going to place it on hold until the CS team has caught up with the queue. When that happens, we'll address them as quickly as we can. If you have an unmelt request you haven't placed yet, please wait until you we reopen the queue; unmelt tickets placed between now and the reopening will be closed. If your ticket is about a specific sale (such as the Retaliator modules or the Vanguard variants) do not fear: we'll badge you for the missing purchase when the time comes.

We've also asked Turbulent to look at a system to allow manual unmelting of previous ships and packages; if that's cost-effective (database work can be more difficult than it seems!), we'll let you know how it's coming along. I'm sorry about the trouble, and we really appreciate your support - you guys know as well as we do that Star Citizen couldn't happen without that support and your patience... and we'll do the best we can for you as soon as we possibly can.

Ben

would be nice if they got that system where we could manually unmelt ships our selves

Yeah I would like to be able to see a list of the ships I can unmelt since I did quite a bit of juggling of packages and ships when I was doing LTI upgrades for people.

I pretty much know most of my un melt options but i never went through as many meltings to help people so your list is likely pretty long.

There are only a few things i have melted that i have interest in unmelting.

First its the LTI Super Hornet i melted when i picked up the Vanguard since that hornet was my lti upgrade path for my Phoenix, so i need to unmelt that at some point when it comes time to ccu it to an Andromeda so i can apply my phoenix upgrade.

The only other thing i have melted i have any real interest in is my Reclaimer, but i doubt i would be unmelting that any time soon or if at all. Since i kinda like where my fleet is heading and i am near my spending limit. As it is i think i need to spend around $315 to finish my intended fleet.

unmelt my super hornet and ccu it to andromeda then apply my phoenix upgrade
ccu Gladius into hornet tracker and apply my tracker to super upgrade
ccu Delta into m50

Not really going to worry too much about what i might want to unmelt until i have finished those 3 things.

Some things i do have melted tho include
5x LTI Heralds
3x LTI Reliants
2x LTI Khartu-AL's
1x 2 year 350r
1x 2 year M50
1x LTI Reclaimer
1x LTI Retalaitor base
1x 2 year full Retalaitor
1x 6month Phoenix (pretty sure i bought one to look at it in the hangar before melting it later to pick up just the upgrade)
1x 6month Aquila (same reason as the phoenix to look at it in the hangar)

Those are the ships i have melted that i can remember melting, tho i know there are others like cutlass blue upgrades and things like that.

Yeah I would like to be able to see a list of the ships I can unmelt since I did quite a bit of juggling of packages and ships when I was doing LTI upgrades for people.

You can, go to your hangar ("My Hangar") on the site where all your digital items are stored and at the top you'll see "Hangar Log", just click on that. The "Hangar Log" will list all activity on your account since its been created, including trades and has the cash values you put in and got out when you bought and melted ships. I learned about unmelting way back before AC came out when it was more hush hush and we use to use charts to know how much in credits we needed in our accounts, but then when I joint another group there was someone who told me about the log, made things much easier to keep track of and I saw things on my account that I melted I wasn't even aware of.

Errr...

I've not really followed this game all that much. I have one of those AMD codes (bought off ebay).

Figured I would give it a go. Seriously? Is this a fucking joke?

The social module is just a map. Is there any functionality?

Arena commander, it's still "just" dog fighting?

Am I missing something?

Arena commander will always be dog fighting, since it is just a game within a game.

Tho Arena commander 2.0 will start to incorporate multi crew ships.

The Social module is exactly like the name implies, it is a place for you to socialize with people.

Are you missing something? Well yes you are missing a lot because you have not followed the games progress or kept up to date with the mountains of information they release on a weekly basis, so if you come back fresh from a long hiatus it is obviously going to leave you feeling out of the loop.

You are missing a lot of things actually and I always love those fire off the hip reactions Star Citizen gets when there is a hype worthy event, people jump on board and then go WTF without reading the whole open development, as in early access to builds before they are completed, like the hangar module or the hangar to look at 3D models of the ships or various modes in arena commander to try out the physics and some of the meat of the project. Now there is a pretty detailed post of the road map through the rest of the year which should see the Social Module come to life, FPS is close to release and Citizen Con is next month with a lot of things hinted at being shown and released (including a build for public release for Citizen Con, which I can only hope will be large world/AC 2.0), but all those things are best case scenario and FPS has already been delayed for close to 5 months.

This is not a completed game yet, please do your do diligence like all consumers should do before they spend there money and don't come out swinging when you don't even realize you just bought into an early access (really early) access game. On the bright side, Squadron 42 Chapter 1 is still scheduled for release before the end of the year.

I'm under no delusion, I know it's an incomplete game / still in development.

But just so we're clear (more of my benefit really), is the social module currently a map in which you can text chat between avatars that all look identical?

A simple yes or no will suffice.

Social module is pretty limited.

They still need to implement character creation as well as the persistent nature of it so it actually saves those changes on their end.

I think on ATV today they mentioned they just finished the mocap a day or 2 ago to add 25 more emotes ect to the social module in its first/next update ect.

Considering they just merged the dev build and the public build this week, it will likely be another week or so before we see another update.

So what do you think some of the benefits are going to be for isolating the science pods?

Only thing i can think off atm is a sort of Quarantine scenario where you might be making some sort of bio weapon, or need to isolate someone that may be infected with a contagious virus. If one of the pods gets compromised it wont affect the whole ship ect.

REAVERS!

lol

Cross contamination of experiments perhaps or maybe you can only run type of experiment at a time per pod.

I want it, it's ugly and big, I don't know if I am willing to melt something for it though. It may just have to end up on my list of things to get in game.

PTU patch 1.2.1 is out, can't access patch notes though. From what its saying on Reddit, its just continuing to address the Social Module rollout for people who still can't access it and issues in Arc Corp.

You're talking to me as if I was a newb lol. I know about the log, just look at this thread with me posting a bunch of transactions from it when I was doing LTI upgrades for people. My log is at least a couple thousand lines long. What I want is a nice tidy organized list of what I have available to unmelt without having to sift through the aforementioned log.

That Endeavour looks so fucking expensive. :)

likely a $400 ship minimum i would think, maybe 500 in line with the Hull-E.

Tho they could always price it less based on its role and wanting to get more people into the scientific role by giving it a lower price point.

We know some ship prices are based on what they come with "the hull value" as well as what its focus is "combat generally has more of a price premium" as well as ships designed to make more profit with less initial investment like the hull series, where you can just get hired as a semi driver essentially and transport someone elses goods which takes no real investment on your part to get up and running, where something like a salvage ship like the Reclaimer or mining like the Orion actually make you go out and look for your meal ticket. Another example of that is the Starliners price compared to an Orion or Reclaimer, since the Starliner can quickly get passengers and start out making money ect, i believe that is partly why it was so expensive compared to the other role specific ships.

So the Size of the Endeavor will play a part in its pricing and garner it a high tag but its role could bring its price down based on it being a specialized science/hospital vessel to make the entry into that play style less restrictive.

Ah, the good old days, I remember your upgrade thread :D
hehe yeah :D

In other news the community hub is live for concierge and subscribers. They want people to take it for a spin. On the main page mouse over the Community heading and you will see the HUB link on the submenu

reddit > hub

Once all backers have access and its not so curated I think it will improve, right now its just very dry. I like the streaming section.
