Batman: Arkham Knight

EA's ports are usually pretty good actually. The last bad one I can think of off the top of my head was Mass Effect 1.

Not really... ME2 and 3 were straight console ports (e.g. lackluster, no taking advantage of the additional performance that the PC provided at all three games' release, and dat Garrus LOD bug in 1...) with the exception of stripping out controller support and adding insane mouse acceleration and a lot of bugs/glitches. At least they performed well. Something that cannot be said for B:AK.

The horse is not dead (yet). The SLi bug is still there, my 980s are still running with 60% utilization with the latest patch and driver. The game lags and stutters like hell.

Mostly relating to the batmobile. Actually, all relating to the batmobile. I'm still running one one card as well for what it's worth.

Huh? Hasn't he been in all of the Batman games? I thought it was pretty obvious he would be in this one.

Nope it was a surprise given he was
killed off in a previous game and missing in the last one.
I like how that fact was handled in this one I am glad it wasn't spoiled for me before hand.

He dies in Arkham City and this game opens with him being cremated, so most people likely aren't expecting to see him show up again. I know I wasn't, especially after Hamill said he wasn't doing the role anymore.

And I was counting on them making the game playable for this holiday weekend... So much for my dream lol.

Seriously...
If you didn't figure out Arkham Knight was Joker the first time you see him in the game at ACE Chemicals I think you have brain damage.

Whoops should not have clicked that one.
For anyone else who thinks the spoiler immediately above this post might be clickable, don't click it unless you've beaten the game.

I already knew that you-know-who is in B:AK but I was not expecting that... lol.

Take spoiler tags seriously, people ;).

good thing I'm not keeping up with this thread every day...I would hate to accidentally read some major spoilers about the game

Finished the game. I liked the story. I youtubed the 100% ending though and I liked it better, but seriously it's just NOT worth doing it. I was at 96% completion and only had Riddler left but after doing several of them debating on if I should bother, Riddler announced I was only 20% done with the obscene 243 horrible trophy collection missions and I just went no freaking way I am doing 200+ more of these. So happy for YouTube. :D

I gave up before even getting to the Deathstroke fight. I hated that the game was pretty much forcing you to upgrade in a specific path before you could beat all the outposts and I didn't feel like grinding for upgrade points so I could unlock the ability to disrupt drones. Besides I really didn't want a repeat of that quite frankly terrible tank fight against Jason. Once was quite enough of that.

Yeah I can't believe they made the trophies, riddles, and breakables part of the 100% ending requirement. The work required for the trophies ALONE is probably triple the effort needed to complete all the other side missions combined. Because of that, it makes the other side missions feel less worth doing because you know you're probably not going to 100% the other crap anyway so there's zero reason to do it.

They should have just left the trophies/riddles/breakables/bomb guys as part of achievement hunting, and left the actual Riddler quest itself count towards the 100%.

Yep. I figured out some time ago I wasn't going to bother. There's "fun stuff to find while exploring" and then there's "tedious bullshit". I'd say all the Riddler trophies fall way too close to "tedious bullshit". Its like they took all the grind from an MMO and mixed it in. Yeesh. Maybe some rare day when I'm bored to tears and looking to do something painful I'll pick away at them.... actually no.. not even then. :p

Story is interesting. Some twists I saw coming, others were unexpected to say the least. Though I hate to say it but the whole game is starting to depress me just like TW3 did. I had to stop playing TW3 and go back to GTA5 just to enjoy something more light hearted, and B:AK is certainly pushing me right back in that direction.

How long did it take you to figure out who the Knight was?

Sadly, I had that part somewhat spoiled for me in FFXIV guild chat. Leave it to killjoys to try and spam the channel with spoilers.

I'm somewhat familiar with Batman comics and whats happened over the years, and even if I hadn't had that reveal spoiled for me, I might have leaned that way a little with some of the things they did, but then the one scene at the movie studio lab would have made me go, "Huh, guess I was wrong", except that I already know the truth.

I just wish it wasn't so.... depressing.... :(

Yeah, I had a guss for who it was that ended up being wrong. Though I knew it was wrong the moment he spoke. It was a "Oh well, that's who you are" moment. I like how they handled that character though.

wow there's 243 of those Riddler trophy collectables??...that seems like triple or quadruple the amount from Arkham City

No they weren't great ports but they worked at the very least.

I am enjoying the fuck out of this game. Seems like watching that first 2 movies. Absolutely fantastic.

I'm at 97% and only have half of the Riddler junk taken care of and I just said the hell with it and watched it on youtube. A real pain for the Riddler challenges is that you must have certain gadget upgrades to get them. You NEED the reverse remote controlled batarang and the mine sabotage upgrade for the disruptor rifle otherwise there are two trophies you can't get. Depending on how you upgraded your gear you might have to do a chunk of the AR missions to get to 100%.

Anyone else having trouble scanning the Cloudburst Tank? I can't get the scan to work no matter which key I assign the action to.

the Batgirl DLC sounds strange...it takes place before the events of Arkham Asylum and was developed by Arkham Origins developer Warner Bros. Montreal...comes out on July 14 for PS4 and Xbox One (no mention of PC release date)...seems like Rocksteady will handle all future DLC but gave WB Montreal the Batgirl one

Batgirl = Oracle right?

Wasn't Batgirl Batman's gf at one stage?

If so then the ending to this game is fucking weird.

Oracle or Barbara Gordon was the first Batgirl until she was crippled by the Joker in the story The Killing Joke.

At one point Barbra was the girlfriend of the first Robin, Dick Grayson but they broke up when Dick was part of a team called the Teen Titans.

Just to screw with your mind: There have been three separate Batgirls and five Robins throughout the history of the comics.

Yeah I'm a bit out of the loop at the moment, haven't read any comics (well maybe a few), seen the movies and played AA and 80% of AC (till my game installation got stuffed) and about to finish AK but spoiled myself to the ending by watching a few youtube clips.

Ok that makes sense if Batgirl was Robins first gf. Wait did Batman ever have a gf? I always thought it was Oracle since she always helped Bman with forensics and information.

Are the comics and the games anyhow closely related or non-canon?

Batman has had several girlfriends, though most of them serve just to play up the image of his alter-ego Bruce Wayne. His primary flings in the comics are Talia Al Ghul and Catwoman. He even has a son with Talia.

Oracle is like several other members of what tends to get called the Bat-family. They're supporting helpers that assist Batman in his duties either by being behind the scenes help or by being out patrolling the streets.

The games are their own universe but they draw a lot of their backstory and characrer traits from both the comics and the 90s animated series. There are bits of Burton and Nolan sprinkled in as well, but it's mostly comics and TAS.

the best part of the Arkham games are how they nailed the overall feel of the comics

Agreed. All four games have stories that feel like they were written by comic book writers. It's clear the Rocksteady folks absolutely love Batman and comics in general and even the WB Montreal folks seem to as well. The attention to detail and the little subtle references that only comic book readers would get are amazing.

I'm a big Batman comic fan and see the parallels in these games. I must say I'm not a fan of the faces in this game. I like everything about the art direction except for the faces, especially Nightwing, Harley and Wayne.

That's Jim Lee's art style for ya. I'm not a big fan of a lot of his facial work on characters. I really hate most of his designs for Harley.

I loved Jim lee's Teen Titan art from the new 52 launch but the faces in this game are kind of ugly IMHO. I don't feel this way about all the characters, but definitely on the ones I mentioned earlier. Most of the females in the game look great but Harleys face looks kind of chubby to me, unlike the sexy Harley from the comics.

On a side note Arkham knights identity was a no brainer for me. I imagine that was the case for must Batman comic fans lol.

From the previews and gameplay videos I don't like Batman's face in this one either. Thought it looked a lot better in Origins. Can't put my finger on it but something about this one just doesn't look right.

I did the same thing. I was sick of hunting down those damn Riddler trophies so I just finished the game, saw the lame ending then watched the full ending on YouTube. The thing that bugs me is if this is the last Batman game from Rocksteady why didn't they tie up all the loose ends?

They tie up a lot of things but it should be noted that Rocksteady never said it was their last Batman game. They keep saying it's the end of the trilogy. The Knightfall ending seems like a perfect way to leave things open for a new Batman game should they or another studio want to do it. Done right they could have a fun "who is Batman" mystery. Though I'm betting that the new Batman in that ending is Azreal. Tim probably graduated into his Red Robin or some other role instead of taking on the cowl. There is also a good chance that since Bruce obviously faked his death he is taking on a mentor role to the new Batman, like he did with Terry in Batman Beyond.
