Battlefield 4 **Official Discussion Thread**

Blame jets for that. Anything lethal enough to take down a jet will be laughably overpowered against a chopper. Anything tuned to take down a chopper will be pointless to try and use against a jet. Combine that with the removal of the tracer dart in favor of the "all lock-on all the time" model from BF3 and it's not hard to see why flying(and fighting) helicopters doesn't feel the same as it did in BC2.

Now, with the mention of the removal of the tracer dart, we move into how they've managed to dumb it all down even further. At least with the tracer dart some measure of skill was required, but the reward was worth the effort/investment of time in learning to use it properly. With BF3, they just said, "Here you go, just hover your crosshair over the jet/chopper/whatever and we'll do all of the hard work for you."

I blame jets for that, too. You'd never hit a jet with a tracer dart unless he was blimping his way across the map for a gun-run on a chopper, and even if you did the jets can outrun everything but an IGLA if they hit the afterburners(max speed of the attack jet is 344 which is faster than every soldier-launched missile except the IGLA, the stealth jet is faster). Combine that with 64-player maps where you don't get any extra helicopters(usually) but you have potentially twice as many anti-air rocket launchers on the map and it's easy to see why choppers just don't feel as good as they used to.

Got the parts today and put the machine together. BF4 runs great at Ultra
I do get a stutter every now and then, but it may be the game as I read some others were having a strange stutter once in awhile.
I bought one of those SoundBlaster ZX cards and the game sounds a bit different than the onboard SoundMax of the old motherboard.

Picked up the full game for $5 today. All the bad reviews and commentary about it kept me away. But for $5, you can't really go wrong. Played a little bit earlier, and I was pleasantly surprised. Seems like it's pretty sold at this point in time. I don't know what the "good" maps are or anything like that yet, but I had fun.

Any suggestions on good maps to look for?

All of the Final Stand and Naval Strike maps; Zavod 311; Siege of Shanghai; Hainan Resort; and Paracel Storm. I'm also a fan of Guilin Peaks, in the China Rising DLC.

I've said it before, but there are only a couple of maps in the game which I truly dislike. Overall, the map quality in this game is staggeringly high.

With the exception of Rush game mode. They really fucked over Rush this go around, so bad that they had to completely re-vamp it in CTE and had to have the community re-test all the tweaks they did to the maps.

Conquest, Domination, TDM... solid maps for those game modes. There is still the occasional stinker, but overall really good maps for those game modes.

Best maps IMO below.

Vanilla:
Hainan Resort
Paracel Storm
Rogue Transmission
Seige of Shanghai
Zavod 311

China Rising:
Guilin Peaks (one of the best close quarters maps with infinite flanking options)
Silk Road (the best tank battle map so far in BF4)

2nd Assault (redone BF3 maps):
Caspian Border (very well redone, the new wall changes everything about this map and so does the tower crumbling levolution)

Naval Assault:
Lost Islands
Nansha Strike
Wave Breaker
Operation Mortar

Dragon's Teeth:
Pearl Market (best close quarters map in the game, infinite flanking options)
Propaganda (good mix of close quarters with a couple tanks to mix things up)

Final Stand:
Giants of Karelia
Hammerhead
Hangar 21
Operation Whiteout

Out of the maps left, the rest are meh. There are 3 that I hate:
Dawnbreaker (wtf was DICE thinking adding jets to a map filled with skyscrapers?)
Lancang Dam (Mobile AA can just camp spawn and hit anywhere on the map, Levolution does not change gameplay)
Sunken Dragon (horribly lopsided for one team)

While some of the complaints may have been justified early on, its typical that the disgruntled are always the loudest. How many crowds have you seen gather round with signs and shout "WE LOVE THIS SHIT!"

DICE did a good job with BF4....many are just upset its not BF2/3/perfect in every way.

Did you get just the basic game for $5 or did that include Premium as well?

I gave the game six or seven months before I bought it and it was still a mess when I finally did get it but they released a huge update a couple of months ago that made some major changes. The game is good to go these days.

It's the basic game for the $5. I'm really impressed honestly. It's fucking gorgeous at max setting, and plays like butter. And I really like some of the new maps. The GUI in game now is pretty awesome too compared to the clunky one from BF3. And I love the new training ground. This is well wroth $5 in my opinion.

If I find a good deal on Premium, I will probably get it. As long as it doesn't include any of the Pay To Win stuff. I just want the expansions.

The game is great. I don't like that a lot of the scopes are battlepack only items, though. Particularly FLIR/IRNV scopes. Only playing rush, not being able to use the gun I want in all the damn smoke is annoying.

There is ABSOLUTELY ZERO Pay to Win aspects in this game. Pay to win implies you give cash for an overpowered weapon that is not available in the game. You can pay for DLC's that include the new maps, new game modes, and new weapons but still have to unlock the weapons. You can buy battlepacks and weapon unlocks (which is ungodly stupid IMHO), but all of that stuff can be unlocked very readily just by playing the game. All of the weapons are balanced and fit into their own niche roles and every single weapon has a counter.

Where people are getting confused on the P2W aspects are on a couple weapons that seem OP due to balance issues and are only available in the DLC's. For example, the Bulldog, MPX, AWS, and Deagle. The AWS and Deagle have been balanced properly and are no better than the MG4/M249 and the Magnum/Rex available in the base game. The Bulldog (Assault class) and MPX (Engineer class) have some balance issues, but in all fairness can be countered by guns with slightly different playstyles like the AEK-971 (Assault class) or ACW-R (Carbine for all classes) available in the base game. The AEK is still the weapon of choice for the wannabe MLG pro playing close quarters maps.

Guess I won't be playing anytime soon since the servers are down until...who knows. Is the single player campaign any good?

Anyone have strange issues with the game?
I am getting a stutter and my controls freeze up sometimes, if I am moving, I can let go of the WASD keys and my guy keeps moving and the controls are locked up for a sec. when this is happening, my mouse stutters so panning left right up and down stutters and skips really bad.

I was having some weird issues earlier when I was finally able to get on. But it seems to have cleared up. Playing this game at early levels is like Christmas. After my last match, It took like 2 full minutes to list all my unlocks and awards. It's fun while it lasts. :)

Just went on-line to play some. Haven't played in quite a few days. Are the servers still down?

Does the game play like shit for anyone else lately? It played great for the past couple of months after that huge update back in late September/early October but the past couple of days it has played like it did before the update.

Depends on the issues you are seeing.

Every time there is one of the $5 sales for the games, you tend to see an uptick in hackers since the entry fee is so cheap. They buy a cheap copy on a throwaway account and play with various hacks until they are banned. IIRC the same thing happens with CS:Go during the Steam sales. I know I have seen a lot of aimbotters, healthboosts, and damage mods lately.

I've played a bunch of rounds the past few days and the game played great.
Just had that strange issue I mentioned a few posts earlier, but it hasn't happened in a couple of days.

If you get huge lag. Turn off origin in game. It is in application settings. I was going from 120 fps to 10 until I did that.

stopped playing it.
stopped buying games from dice.
Only way they learn to make better games if people stop buying them.

Yup. Aside from that there are the people that are brand new that clearly picked it up only because it was only $5 or whatever. BF3 and BC2 had that huge influx of new people and cheaters during sales as well.

"I'll show 'em!"

Newsflash: People aren't going to stop buying DICE games. Battlefront and Battlefield 5 will happen sure as the sun coming up, and lone "protesting" means fuckall like trying to bail the ocean. Enjoy.

Stop posting. Stop trolling. We got the message over a year ago when you first started this crap. Posting your opinion is one thing, posting it over and over without contributing anything is trolling.

If it weren't you and your already terrible post record, it wouldn't matter. At this point you are just drive by trolling for post count++. I've already pointed this shit out once before.

He's been trolling this thread for over a year now. I just report his posts now since he no longer contributes anything.

Do you guys like BF3 more the BF4 I've been playing more BF3 due to the close quarters maps.

for some reason I didn't play BF3 much, my hours count on that game is only 11. Kind of a shame since I paid $100 for it and Premium.

Yeah I paid 59.00 for Premium for BF3 a few months after launch and only had two hours in two weeks ago.

I bought BF3 at release and currently have 385 hours in it but I haven't played it in over six months since I got BF4. I waited six or seven months after release to get BF4 but it's all I play now.

I recently got BF4 and Premium and am really enjoying it. It's a nice looking game on Ultra. Forgot how fun it was to snipe people across the map.

May my knife find your tags, sniper. ;)

I don't have as many hours in BF4 as I did in BF3 or BF2, but for some reason I find it more addicting but less fun. I dunno... Maybe I need help.

Domination mode in BF4 covers this for me. every map is close quarters in this mode. i like it, fun times.

TDM and Domination mode kick ass on many maps in BF4. The only one that really sucks is Domination mode on Operation Locker with 32+ players. I've seen that one turn into nothing but a peek-a-boo match with one team fighting from inside and the other from outside since one capture point is on the chopper pad.

If that happens your best bet is to relinquish the outside control point so that the spawns will switch. You can then back cap the 2 inside points. A smart team won't take the bait and will just leave the outside point alone though.

Domination should be 16-24 players max. I think many of the Conquest Large maps actually play better with 32-48 players. The only vanilla maps where 64 players are warranted are Golmud and Paracel imo. Hmm I just got an interesting idea ... dynamic maps. As the player count on the server increases the map boundaries could dynamically change from small to large.

Anyway, still enjoying this game.

Never liked normal. The number of bullets required in a semi-realistic military shooter always didn't feel "right". And the damn spotting tags is the most ridiculous crap. Hardcore and a nice clean UI is awesome.
