Titanfall - Respawn Entertainment's first game

I hate to say it, but I haven't even played this the last couple days...kinda seems stale to me already, at least with the limited beta/demo content.

Same here, I only played a couple of maps for the past two days.
Now, I didn't have much time anyway, and I think the fact that there is limited content at the moment doesn't help.
I will prolly treat it just like COD, couple maps here and there, and log out. I don't see myself playing it for more than 1 hour at a time,, especially if none of my friends get it...

limited time and BF4 Second Assault has dragged me away from Titanfall. is the beta even still going?

I believe the beta closed yesterday.
It was supposed to end at 02:00 UTC this morning, but I was still able to launch the game from Origin nearly an hour after that. I have not yet checked today with work and all...

Got a chance to play it last night for a couple of hours. I thought it was great. Something different, which is good in the land of modern warfare. It seems remarkably well balanced. Even with an insta-kill pistol (which I loved), it never felt unfair. I was concerned that with only 16 people + AI, the maps would feel empty, but I really like what they have done. I'm actually surprised how good it looks too, considering it's on Source.

Only complaint is the matchmaking. Not sure why they decided not to use a server browser for the PC version.

Had a ton of fun playing this and I generally hated COD multiplayer, going to be a hard wait for it to come out now

http://www.gamesradar.com/problem-titanfalls-burn-cards/

Worth a read and certainly plausible...if perhaps not immediately probable...

Yep. I was bringing up the real possibility of Burncard Packs a few days ago, people are quick to assume that because Respawn devs write "no microtransactions" on their personal twitter that its somehow proof it'll never happen.

CoD:Ghosts made a big point of "no microtransactions" before they launched too because they know its bad PR for launch which is the most critical point in the sales cycle, then ofcourse the microtransaction offerings began cropping up a few months later, right on cue.

If it wasnt EA calling the shots and Respawn was independent then it would be a little more plausible they would be capable of leaving the microtransaction dollars on the table. But with Activision continually bragging how profitable COD microtransactions have been for them, its going to be hard for EA to stand by and resist. Console kiddies seem to lap it up so there's precedent.

No microtransactions at launch, but lets see after a few months.

I loved the game, but if there is PTW included, I definitely won't be buying it. That's the reason I haven't, and will never, play BF4. Everyone should be on a level playing field, and the "Kits" you buy in BF4 to unlock weapons are bullshit. My main reason for playing a game like BF4 is to earn my shit, not buy it. Ruined BF3, ruined BF4, and will ruin Titanfall if they start doing PTW. I hate EA SOO FUCKING BAD.

Thats why developers and publishers are usually smart enough to wait until after the initial sales rush begins to plateau before introducing it. And if/when it does come I'm sure they'll try to shift the conversation to "well its not pay2win because you can't technically buy anything that someome else couldn't earn playing the game". Kinda like the Planetside2 model where it's either buying upgrades or spending time grinding them.

Jesus you guys ever get tired of the negative speculation stuff?

I HIGHLY doubt it will be P2W with the burn cards. Yup let me sink 5 bucks into something that could last me about 5 secs into the game. Yup.....Any half way decent player will rape the shit out of people who use burn cards as a crutch.

I actually kinda like the idea of Burn Cards, but if they try to illicit microtransactions with them...hell no.

Not all of the effects are all that powerful, but I could see people stocking up on the -40 sec Titan Drop time limit one, as that actually can give you a significant advantage.

EDIT: And in that article above it looks as though there are ones to instantly call down Titans. THAT would be hugely unbalanced and definitely P2W if they sold those cards.

More justification for something that can be very, very lame.

This game is going to suck so much ass that their going to have to import ass from other countries just to meet the demand.

Yup both my buddies and I have gotten Ogre and Strider Titan Cards. And called them down within 5 secs of the game.

If you play it right you can rape the other team with that tactic....play it wrong and that Titan is toast in about 15 secs.

I don't think they are that dumb to do the burn card microtransaction bullshit.

So the developers announced Burn Card microtransactions?

"Warning: I'm about to go off the speculation deep end, for a game that's still in beta.

But what really scares me is the Spider Sense-like tingle I'm getting about microtransactions tied to Burn Cards. Nothing--I repeat, nothing--in official statements has indicated that this is a possibility. "

Just making up FUD for clicks.

They are more likely to bring microtransactions with weapon skins/titan skins and dlc map packs and game modes. Although they have so much hype right now they could almost do nothing wrong they have no proven sales numbers yet to pull of something like paid burn cards.

Not sure what you mean by this. It's obviously not dumb for EA to do it because they want to rape our wallets, but it's dumb in the sense that it grossly alters the game mechanics and makes the game blatantly P2W.

This is the same team that brought IWNET to COD: MW2 and also did away with a server browser. The only reason we are even getting dedicated servers I would guess is that MS is giving game companies access to Azure for free.

Also why give a browser since they would need people to actually develop that specifically for the PC assuming Azure would even support it. Rumor is the PC team was really small since everyone was focused on the XB1 version because Microsoft was pushing it.

To say MS is pushing it would be an understatement. Microsoft hitched their wagon to this title in hopes of it becoming a substitute "Halo" system seller, and now that they're floundering after being outsold 2:1 by the PS4 last month, there's even more pressure on TF to perform. Worth noting the PS4 has not even gone in sale in Japan yet, Sony's home turf, but that's happening this saturday with an additional 25 japanese-specific titles.

EA took an enormous amount of cash from Microsoft to keep TF off the playstations, and did so at a time it wasn't known definitively yet that PS4 would go on to become the more popular nextgen platform, and so now the marketing and advertising dollars being thrown at TF is insane, with so many millions--and by some accounts the platform itself--hanging in the balance.

Sales figures are 99% due to games being 1080p on one platform and 720p or whatever on the XBone and the PS4 being $100 cheaper to boot. Kinect just gives lonely gamers something to yell at since they aren't dating. Before Kinect you would cuss your gaming system out when you lost; now it responds back.

Oh I completely understand and agree. I was more just pointing out why the PC version isn't where many in the PC world would want it as far as traditional PC features go. This isn't to say I expect the PC version to be broken, though I wouldn't be surprised if there were bugs that were present at launch that seem obvious and easy to fix.

It will be interesting to follow the game though and see what happens post launch. I am really curious to see how the player count trends on PC. I am really curious to see how matchmaking goes since I know my COD experience with it looking for matches was never good past the first month or so.

I guess we'll see who actually OWNS and Makes the Decisions to CODE the game then. Respawn or EA.

Countdown till DLC in three.....two....one....

DLC wouldn't bother me as much at being able to buy weapon packs and titan packs that unlock everything with no effort. Or being able to buy burn cards.

Also, I think they should have a Titan vs. soldier mode. 1 Titan vs. 5 soldiers. Some sort of balance where only a couple have Titan killing weapons or at least low power weapons. Titan tries to survive for X amount of time, soldiers try to destroy him for X amount of time. Could be fun, or horrible. ;)

Not a bad idea, sounds very similar to EVOLVE's concept.

This is what I'm afraid of, splitting up the community early on. It's almost a certainty EA will try some bs like this just like they did with battlefield

DLC is not almost a certainty, DLC is a certainty. When asked about a season pass and DLC, instead of saying "no" emphatically like they did about microtransactions, the response is "no news at this time" - the very same response given when people asked a month ago if there would be a beta.

...or Giants: Citizen Kabuto, or AvP...

Not really a new concept, but I'm glad it's coming back around...I really enjoy those games.

Same. I broke down and bought BF4 for the pc in the mean time to get my fps fix. I've been playing MMO's way too long.

Was tempted to do just that. But all the P2W stuff and bad posts I've read are stopping me. How is it for someone who will never buy "Premium" or any of the other P2W crap?

It's hard to stick to your guns but with the impending Titanfall release I can resist the urge of buying gun kits. I think there's 1 day left on the free handgun kit. You can buy the kit without even owning the game on PSN/XBL/Origin.

I have friends how just bought Premium on BF4 but I can't get myself to do it. Instead all gaming funds are being reserved a few weeks for TF baby.
