Battlefield 4 **Official Discussion Thread**

I want to buy this game so bad but I've heard that the bugs/crashes out weigh the good.
Normally, out of about 6-10 hours of gameplay, I get a single crash. Which isn't nearly as bad as some but the stability is definitely improving.

Overall, the game is fun but it definitely still has some teething issues that will hopefully mostly be ironed out in the coming weeks.

Those new maps do look like fun! I've been kinda disappointed with the maps in BF4. Need more bad company 2 style maps.

Agreed besides the crashing issues that plagued the game and still happen on occasion the maps are really my only other complaint. They are so meh. BC2 has some damn good maps and so did BF3 to a degree. I like BF4 and it's fun but it really is a step back from Bf3, hell even BC2.

I mean shit you have to pay 59.99 for the core game, then an additional 49.99 for some interesting maps. I guess most games are going to start using this type of DLC map whoring model in the future.

The game is a lot of fun, but once the spawn camping starts or you start getting the head shot after you duck under cover, a good 3-4 seconds later it can pull you out of it. The game is well worth $30 buck on Black Friday, but not OMG I must get it for $70.

Most of it is fixed. A few of the main issues right now are supposed to be fixed with the next patch (emp bug, 1 shot kill, audio glitch) which is estimated for next week sometime. I've been having a pretty good experience since the last couple patches with only a crash or two a day. Like skizzled said, that's about 6-10 hours with one crash. Still get the occasional server crash too, rarely. Grab it on Friday when it's on sale then wait for premium to go on sale for like $30 or less to get all the maps. Full experience for $60 or less. I'm definitely having more fun with this than I did playing BF3 and I can only see it getting better with additional balancing and improvements.

Try it. They will refund your money (eventually) if you ask.

Some rounds are horrid campfests but there are times when it is close and balanced too. Just depends on luck if you are pubbing.

Honestly, I wouldn't have known about bugs/crashes at this point if I didn't read about them. Admittedly I was relatively late to the boat and haven't played a ton of hours in MP, but I haven't crashed at all or noticed a bug.

Is there a confirmed list of new vehicles for the first DLC? I am hoping there are some. And some more weapons aside from the 4 that were released earlier.

I think it depends on the rig. Some people are playing without flaws or crashes and others are consistently crashing and lagging

I felt the same way and bit the bullet last friday.

It was unplayable for me at first. Super lag and freezing. but then I applied a few fixes (core unparking).
Now I can play probably 1 map before the game feels rough. There is definitely a memory leaking problem. My system ram usage goes to about 95% but BF4 is only using about 2-3gb. There are reports all over the battlelog and ea forums about this. I hope it gets fixed soon.

They readded motorcycles, if that counts.

Wouldn't count small transport vehicles myself. :(

I wanted more armored vehicles and perhaps an AH-64 and UH-60 for the Americans. And maybe a KA-52 for the Russians. Or Mi-24.

Bradley IFV, Stryker MGS and TOW versions. Maybe hummers with TOWs.

Plenty of vehicles that would fit in fine that were not in BF3. :p I do hope the follow up DLCs add more in terms of vehicles and weapons. Even new scope types (Aimpoint Micro!) would be welcome. Just no more grips please.

I tried to play last night, and it just wasn't fun. Knowing the issues underlying the game, and not liking the maps, I just found myself frustrated with what was happening, and not enjoying myself. I might actually un-install and go to BF3 until sometime in the summer, hopefully by then they will have most of the issues worked out. And Premium may see a nice discount.

Man, this must be how the good players feel. Made 4 ranks in 1.5 hours and unlocked 5 assault rifles.

Double XP and boosts FTW!

I just did a fresh install of Win7 SP1, all updated drivers including BIOS and just got a new EVGA GTX 770 Classified with 4GB of DDR5. Runs like butter now.

I was crashing even with this new card and the fresh build. Then my buddy from the Hardware Canucks told me to do a fresh install of the game. I went crash free last night after 2 hours of play which is amazing for me.

Anyone that's still crashing should also manually update PB. That fixed everything for me.

Shall I bother buying BF4 to play 1920x1200 if I have:
- single Radeon 5870
- i5 2500k overclocked
- SSD
- 8 GB RAM

I remember BF3 was working nice but I think my setup was on the edge.

I played a little bit on my oldest brothers PC at his house earlier, I must say I really like what they did with the AA vehicles. I racked up what must of been 4 or 5 vehicles levels and 3 player levels (he was level 1) in just one round.

Double XP weekend when we're all preoccupied with family, turkey, and Scotch. Come on DICE.

Not sure what I am doing wrong, but I'm one of those folks getting single digit FPS in low. I have 1GB 460's in SLI (331.82 drivers) and a 2500K at 4.5Ghz. BF3 is fine. I jumped on the $20 deal yesterday. Glad it was only $20.

I tried the core unparking trick and no change. Any ideas?

Frankly, I'm preoccupied with Assassin's Creed 4. Though it feels like I'm nearing the end, and I should be able to get some double XP action.

Also, logging in on December 3 or 5 (I forget which) nets an exclusive attachment for the M1911.

Perhaps it's time for a upgrade?

Not enough VRAM for many of the larger conquest64 maps. Make sure your settings are on low to get it under 1GB usage. If you have done that, then check the VRAM usage again to see if you are still below 1GB. I am using more than 1.2 GB of VRAM on the larger maps using medium-high settings. The problem was there in BF3, but BF4 is even more graphic intensive in some places.

A 5870 should do fine on at least medium, medium-high settings. Rest of the system is more than sufficient.

Well I just encountered a stupid annoying bug. Every now and then my HUD would disappear until I die.

I guess you haven't been playing Battlefield since the beginning? Adding extra maps for a fee is commonplace. In the beginning it was with expansion packs, then booster packs, then all those were turned into DLC once the term became mainstream with the last gen of consoles. Here is the cost breakdown in US dollars, at release prices. With the crazy sales going on with BF3 and BF4, the cost per content is sometimes much lower than the older games. BF4 with Premium is only 33 cents more per map than BF2 was, and it can be argued that since their is so much more included with the game such as the insane amount of weapons and unlockable items, re-addition of commander mode and in game chat, the value might actually be better than it was in BF2. Being able to do mods with the older games does swing the value argument in their favor, but not everyone plays mods or even bothered with them, so to keep this simple I left them out of this comparison. I am very well aware of the launch issues for this game, and it does detract from the value at this point in time, but once it is fixed this game should be one of the best value battlefield games DICE has produced. In fact the cost per content has been trending downard after the ridiculous spike in price with BFBC2. I didn't even include the ridiculous SPECACT DLC for $5 with it either.

Thanks for your amazing contribution to this thread!

-People pay $15-$20 a month for MMO subscription fees, then on top of that pay for expansion packs. Go look up how much some people have spent on WoW.
-People spend $60 per year for Xbox Live Gold subscription
-People spend countless money on "Freemium" Games.

To each their own. I have spent thousands of hours in battlefield games. They have been worth every penny.

Now go back to your bridge Troll.

See, I dont mind paying for a good game. But it seems like BF4 has some nasty bugs. It bugs me less since I got it for free with my 290 and I bought another one for $25 today. The Premium needs to go down in price though.

I agree. Premium should go down or they need to add another one or two DLC packs to it. As it stands, I feel it should be $29.99 especially if we have to deal with these ridiculous launch bugs that have become commonplace since BF2's release. Unfortunately for DICE, the bugs weren't just really annoying, they were game breaking this time around. They could also add the modding ability back to the game which would increase its value tremendously, but I seriously doubt that will ever happen.

Premium is on sale at Gamersgate for $39.99. It was 37.50 yesterday. With the way sales have gone for the previous games, I'm willing to bet that premium goes on sale again in the next few months (Winter/Christmas sale) or around the release of Second Assault, most likely around $30. That's when I'll be picking it up. Thankfully I already have China Rising from preordering the night before release (lol) so I'll still be up to date for the next few months while I wait for that sale. Anyone still thinking about buying can still get the Deluxe Edition (with CR dlc) for $25 for another 6 hours or so.

So I just re-unlocked zuni rockets (lol? DICE is too fucking dumb to use google?) and the server crashed. So I lost all progress. Fucking nonsense. Promptly rejoined the server and it crashed as I clicked deploy. More fucking nonsense. When you make a game as simple as Battlefield you had better not fuck it up. Yet DICE has went and done just that. These guys should have been put out of business as soon as that trash BF1942 hit the market. Looks like BF4 is certainly going back to its roots of being utter shit.
