iPhone 5S with new 64-bit A7 processor and M7 co-processor

Honestly, so were most analysts, it's why Apple's stock took a hit. They were expecting it to basically be even more stripped down/cheap so that it could be sold even cheaper. Not just $100 w/2year contract, but $200-300 without a contract, making it viable for the pre-paid market.

Funny thing is, Apple's been selling those types of phones for years; the two year old model becomes free with contract or so inexpensive it can fit the prepaid market. Apple made a killing off the 3GS for that purpose.

going to try my luck on friday at a local verizon store. won't get there until noon so they'll probably only have 64GB gold 5S's left :p

Any analyst who believed that Apple was poised to introduce a $200-300 off-contract handset has no business being an analyst nor do they have any business reproducing.

I would expect the gold color to sell out quickest, actually.

The black/space gray is my opinion the best looking iPhone currently. The white version, which is what I would've gotten if I had bought a 5, lost a fair amount of simple elegance with its too-pronounced Home button ring. The ring on the black/space gray is significantly more subdued and very nearly matches the black fascia.

i'm getting a white one for my wife and i'm waffling back and forth between black and white. gold is not an option for me as i think it will clash with my gold/diamond-encrusted grill.

Kinda bummed you cannot mix/match colors..

Gold with black looks better in my mind than gold with the white.....

I dont like the sharp back edges of the current iphones, i prefered the 3gs generation for in hand comfort. Im hoping that the 5c has a similar feel. I find the aluminum outside to be excessive, and i have no problem with solid-feeling plastic, but i will get the 5s solely for the internal hardware.

Also, wondering if i could fingerprint unlock my phone while wearing nitrile gloves. Doubt it, but it has crossed my mind.

Read both the Anandtech 5s and 5c reviews. The A7 is pretty awesome. I'm surprised at the 1GB of RAM though. I would think that could become an issue with newer games and the new multitasking features of iOS7.

I wonder if the A7X will have the G6630 6-cluster GPU, and if the new Mini will get the regular A7 we're seeing here.

The 3GS was comfortable. I don't know why people at Apple think holding a brick shaped phone is better. I think most users don't notice because a case is usually used.

The rectangular design of the 4 and 5 feel better to me than the 3GS, reason being that the smooth backing of the 3GS made the phone feel like it was slipping out of my hand.

trying to install iOS7 = biggest pain in the ass ever.

Just download a GM ipsw file from last week then shift + click check for update choose the file and you're good to go. The GM build from last week is the same as what was released today. Only difference is we have iTunes 11.1 now so we can actually sync the phones.

My take on the release of the 5C model is to get low income folks who want an iPhone but simply can't afford the high costs of the 5/5S. Android phones are cheap, plentiful, and people are more than happy to buy them because very often they come at no cost on a new contract.

ROFL, the 5C is going to sell for $550 off-contract. It's only $100 less than the standard iphone. The only low-income folks who will buy it are the ones with severely messed up financial priorities.

Off to the Mall luckily there is an Apple store, AT&T Store, Verizon Store, and T-Mobile Store in the same mall so hopefully the lines wont be bad.

drove by a local Verizon store at 6:30am on my way to work and not a single person was waiting. upside of living in a small suburb :). when i get off work today at 11am i'll probably feel the downside of living in a small suburb - "sorry we only received six phones total and they've all sold" :D

In-store supplies are severely constrained according to some MacRumors reports. Talk of Apple Stores only getting a few white and gold units in any capacity, and rumors suggested that Apple was producing four times as many black units as any other individual model, which means some stores might very well end up only getting a dozen or so total units in stock.

Basically all sold out everywhere I went (Boston area). Was going to get one for my GF during lunch (silly me), but looks like she'll be waiting a few weeks.

Waiting in line in Foster city store, they essentially have 0 gold in stock, and they wouldn't tell us until the store is about to open. This is quite fucked up in my opinion for those who wait in line since midnight.

Agreed, but they may not even have known what stock they were getting until the truck rolled up in the early hours.

It seems like stores were supplied with black units while white and gold were allocated for online orders.

I picked up a black 64GB one at an AT&T store. During the purchase the sales rep told me they were required to include the Mobile Protection Pack, a $10/mo insurance plan, to all iPhone sales that day. When I said I wasn't interested, he explained that it was required on all sales but I could call back later and remove the service. I gave him a questioning look and he said he could just add me to a list for removal at the end of the day. I said okay but still wasn't happy. We moved on with the sale and he then said he needed to step in back for a moment. After a few minutes, he returned with a Manager who then tried a hard sale of the service. I again explained I had zero interest and they said they would remove it later in the day.

Did anyone else buy a phone from AT&T and run into these tactics?

I didn't buy from AT&T but I hate shit like that. I was in and out of Verizon with no hassle in about 20 minutes which included ordering my wife's white 32Gb phone. I was with AT&T for a few years and I was happy with them, never ran into shit like that.

Wow, you are a lot more patient than I am. I would have just said, "No, you're going to sell me the phone without the protection pack or I will cancel my service with AT&T. i know for sure that this is not a company-wide mandate and I want to speak to your manager."

I guarantee you the manager came up with that bullshit about it being required because he wanted to hit a certain number of sails of the protection pack. Do you know if you were in a AT&T corporate store, or a reseller?

I kept thinking when has Apple introduced something that most people thought was inexpensive. Not the Macbook Air. Not the Macbook Pro. I doubted Apple would do it for an iPhone. I should be an analyzer.

To be fair, I wouldn't call the MBA expensive. Not relative to any other similar laptop of similar spec's.

I've had friends shop for laptops and compare the MBA to other laptops in the same price range, but not the same class.Well if you want an ultrabook you have to pay the entry price. They ask why is it more expensive than a PC with better specs. I've tried to explain that It's useless to compare prices when one laptop is a paperweight and the other is a tank. Yes, I've seen people compare $500 laptops to a MBA.

Verizon try to sell me their "Edge" plan. Which was basically a $20 charge a month to allow me to upgrade devices every 6 months or so. I just looked at the guy and said no thanks my work is paying for my device.

I ordered mine yesterday from Sprint on the phone, was on hold for about an hour, then the sales guy kept trying to sell me add-ons, a case, Sprints protection plan or AppleCare+.
Came out to $264 after taxes, shipping, and activation. I should get it within 3 weeks.

Would be a nice idea for Android phones. The iPhones hold their own just fine for 2 years though.

Just a quick followup on my experience with AT&T.

I have been with them for around 15 years (even the change to Cingular and back). I have always had good luck with them during this time. This was my first bad experience. When I made my previous post, I also contacted them via email with my experience. That was around 5 pm last night. At 9am this morning, a Saturday, I received a call from a concerned AT&T rep. They had just read my email and wanted more details. They apologized for the early call on a weekend but felt it was important. The plan had not been removed last night (they would take care of this for me), the Protection Pack is not a required part of the sale and they needed more details on the store and salesman to send it to their boss for review.

I'm impressed with their response.

I'd be worried if that wasn't their response. It sounds like they have a problematic manager/sales rep on their hands.

I would hope they contacted you quickly.

It's called "in-lineing" and it is illegal as hell. Like, serious fine to the company, level of illegal.

My uncle and I had a somewhat similar situation: (This was about a month ago)

He lost his iPhone 5 (Find My Phone was off, so......) So we went into an AT&T store here in town. We waited for our turn, which took about 10-15 mins. So this dude calls us and we told him that we were looking for a "cheap" replacement phone to use while the C's and S's come out. The sales rep said he'll help us out, but first he "tried" to show us a powerpoint presentation on home owners insurance. LOL.. I was like, WTF??? We told him we weren't interested. So he says ok. And tells us to hold on a quick second while he gets a phone from the back.

He comes out with another dude (no phone(s)) and with papers/flyers about the same insurance we had just declined. This other dude says he's the sales manager and proceeds to talk about this home owner's insurance. Again, I'm like WTF??? I look around and ask this guy, Are we at an AT&T store or in a Farmer's Insurance?? And he's like, Yeah, but we'd also like to offer you other offers that we provide. And then he changed up and started talking about that uVerse thing... We just told him that we want another phone. That's it. After ignoring our request and him still babbling about insurance and uVerse and other crap, we just walked outta there, walked across the street to a lil phone shop, picked up a $60 phone, called AT&T and got it activated.

LOL... Jeeeezus!!!
