NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

LoL, yeah it is going to be a long wait, I am really tempted to buy a few and sell them after but I have enough expenses already. I wonder how much you could get for one after the fact?
I doubt you could sell it for much profit as this won't be in high demand. If it would be, they could restart production with a higher production volume and lower prices. That is, if they want to.

I've got a apogee drive 2 on a 3770k running around 4.2ghz normally and it works flawlessly as the only pump in my loop that has 2 radiators, a res, and a gtx570 all as a single loop.

Great alternative to a closed loop because of the possibilities it offers for expanding. I have no experience with a radiator with a built in res, but I'm not sure if that one will fit.

Appreciate the insight, that's pretty impressive performance in such a small form factor (explains it's price). Regarding the res.I'm not sure if it will fit and bleeding the air out may be a little tricky. Does anyone have experience with this res. or know of any others that might work?

Yeah it probably wouldn't be worth the trouble, I'm just glad I got one. Now I keep debating on a silver model. I need to quit spending money lol :D

I'm expecting at least a few of the orders are for resell.

I'd probably be willing to spend $250 to $300 before shipping, if it was the only way to get a limited run case like this. I wouldn't be at all happy about spending that much, but I'm pretty sure I would if I had no other way to get one.

If I was positive that I could resell them all, spending $20k on 100 cases, for a $5k to $10k return would be pretty nice. But personally, I feel doing something like that would work against the spirit of this project, so I would never do it for that reason alone. Though I can understand if maybe a small system builder grabs a couple extra for a few one-off builds or something.

Agreed, I wasn't talking those kind of quantities more of a few extra so I could make someones day who missed out.

Watch for those buying two or more. I'm guessing someone has already thought of ebaying.

Going through the funders list, there's several that bought 2 or more. And that's not including Anonymous.. that guy bought a bunch! :D

Not much we can do about it anyway. Supply & demand, free market, capitalism and what not. Hopefully the 600 cases covers everyone that wants one, plus the few guys buying a few extras for friends, family or resell. Making a profit on this project is a dick move imo, since any profits outside of Lian Li's deserve to go to Necere & Wahaha for making this happen.

Necere/Wahaha360: Contributed 250$ (Peter Tomasovic), want standard anodized black...

Or... some of us, who regularly mod products to meet our specific requirements, realize that we need more than one case to have a decent looking end product. The M1 was a compromise among many competing interests, therefore it will require modification to fit exactly what I want it to do. Normally, I don't give a crap if I destroy a case to see if something wild works (check out how I destroyed my Lan Gear Infinity beta case), I'll just go buy another one; I can't really do that with this case, though, so I bought a couple.

If purchase volume is your only criteria for identifying the asshats, maybe I'll just go buy a third one :p

You did it wrong (judging from the looks of the funders list). You should have selected a perk, not just donated a sum of money. I suggest you try to contact them directly if you want it straightened out.

Basically you just gave them money without selecting a product. There are others that did this as well. It's probably a PIA to fix manually.

I've been sifting through posts trying to answer this myself, but can't seem to filter out an answer.

Is it possible for the Noctua NH-C14 (without fans) to fit with the dual 3.5" hard drive cage installed? If not, what is a good alternative? I was also looking at the C12 and L12 but wasn't sure if those extra millimeters hanging past the mobo would be in the way of the drive cage.

Below is what I have picked out for my build so far:
ASUS P8Z77-I Deluxe
ASUS GTX660
Silverstone ST45SF-G
Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB
1x ARCTIC F9 92mm fan
3x COUGAR CF-V12HB Vortex 120mm fan

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks, I've send email to info at ncases.com :( Hope, it'll be resolved :(

I approve ;) After 2 days, someone that misses out now is either sleeping or has never heard of the project yet.

I missed the prototype campaign by a couple weeks, but have been checking here and IGG daily for months since I found out about it.. and during that time, I made damn sure I put aside enough cash for the case & the build I'm planning.

Only ~200 left fellas, get on it!

I did the same thing, placed a second order just to make sure I get one. I'm sure they'll sort out the refund eventually.

Pretty sure the C14 won't fit at all (fan or not) without blocking the 3.5" HDD rack. C12 is the largest I've found that will fit an Asus board without blocking the HDD rack. Noctua L12, Thermalright AXP-100 & Prolimatech Samuel-17 should also fit the Asus board with standard or low-profile RAM, without blocking anything (pretty sure, but not positive).. though those 3 seem much smaller than the C12, and probably won't dissipate heat as well.

Unfortunately, the C12P seems to be discontinued, and the C12P-SE14 is a little hard to find at the moment. Also, not sure if the new 140mm fans will cause any fitment issues. If I can find one, I'm planning on using a 120mm F12 fan with the C12.

Just be careful with high-profile RAM heatsinks when selecting an air cooler.

EDIT: Also, Necere mentioned a few days back that the C12 will fit height-wise, but with only enough room for one 25mm thick fan, either on the fan bracket or the heatsink, but not both. I'm thinking about using 2 Phobya 120x7mm shrouds to make up the 15mm difference of extra space left over, and help route the air to the heatsink better.

Hmm, should I cancel that previous contribution and make a new one... Or just wait...

Read the comments on indiegogo for others that did the same. I'd cancel it if you can, if I was you. Then place a new order.

edit: also, if you are giving them more $$ than the cost for the case (including shipping), don't do it in the same transaction. Another words, if you want a black case put $205 (if in the US, or $245 for outside the US). Putting $250 might confuse them, since they need to determine between black and silver by the cost. Donate extra via the 1st method you used for your original order, as a separate transaction,if you want to donate extra.

Confused. (always) I hit the 205 button. That means I bought it correct? Whats the talk about the perks? and not actually ordering anything?

If you went here and selected the M1 then input your your information and accepted you should be good. Be sure to check your bank statement to ensure the transaction wen't through.
Congrats on your purchase if so !

Is the campaign up again? I just spent $205 VIA Paypal, so will I receive the case sometime January then?

Seems like we're in the minority in terms of going for air cooling.

I think NH-C14 may be worth sacrificing the side fan/hd bracket. But even then, am I reading earlier posts correctly that it would only would fit certain motherboard layouts?

The other option I was thinking about was NH-U9B SE2 + exhaust case fan at the back, which is smaller and would allow you to use the side bracket, or at least the front half of the bracket right?

According to Necere, neither the C12 nor C14 will fit the Asrock boards, but will fit the Asus boards. The most details on the C14 w/Asus is in Thermal Testing #2..

I considered the U9B as well, but just couldn't wrap my head around the airflow with that one. Would make sense to have its fans blowing hot air out the top, but it wouldn't be getting any fresh air with a GPU installed. Since you couldn't fit a fan on the rear-side intake, you could probably give up the HDD rack and use an intake fan there and have the U9B fans blowing hot air out the rear 80/92mm exhaust. Looks like it would fit, at least on an Asus board.. but I'm not 100% sure.

If you're sacrificing the HDD cage, I'm thinking the C14 would be the better choice over the U9B.. if for no other reason, at least it's already been documented by Necere.

It was down?

I wouldn't just assume that right off the bat. I'm buying two, one for my wife and one for myself, and I even contributed $5+$5 to the original production campaign. This may be the last case I ever buy so I have some serious long term plans for them. :)

I'm looking at the GPU temps on what he tested the system on. They GPU temps seem high, in one of the tests it reached 90*C.
I plan on putting in a GTX 760, will that cause overheating problem?
Also I should mount a 120mm fan intake for the GPU right?
What kind of GPU is recommended for this type of system for better temps, blower style or open?

Thanks in advance, please answer all my question

Not sure if I missed this out, but are there any options on buying multiple units, and shipping discounts if I do that? Looking at getting a bulk purchase started in Malaysia.

I think you're referring to part #1 thermal testing, using the HD 7970 mounted low on a DTX board? In this config, there wasn't room for a fan beneath the GPU, with only 1 case fan total in the whole rig (on the H60).

If you're using an ITX board (which moves the GPU up higher than his DTX board config), GTX 760 (40W lower TDP than the 7970), and 120mm bottom intake fan.. I'd imagine your temps should be significantly lower.

Blower style GPU cooler is recommended.

Cool thanks for the reply AFD,

I was scared because I just bought the case, so the bottom fan is going to be intake, the GPU will be exhaust, and the rear fan should be intake also right? From looking at the pictures you can only mount a fan in the back of the case and not the front.

For slim optical drives, the silverstonetek SOD02B will fit this case nicely correct?
Hows is the cable management if any for this case?

Thanks in advance, please answer all my questions

Very welcome! There's a multitude of ways you can configure this case, but yeah, 1x front-bottom fan as intake blowing fresh air to blower-style GPU (exhausted out the card's PCI bracket) seems proper. No front fan locations, just 2 on the bottom, 2 on the side and 1 in the rear. I'm planning on placing a 92x14 fan in the rear as an exhaust, but I'd imagine you could use it as another intake. No fan mounts on the top either.. just hot air naturally rising & positive pressure (more forced intake than exhaust pushing the air out of available openings).

For slim ODD, they must be slot-load only and unfortunately, I personally have no idea which ones will fit correctly. I'll probably be trying either the Silverstone SOB02 or SOD02 and hoping for the best. Doesn't seem to be a lot of choices in this area.

Don't think there's really any defined cable management to speak of. I'll be using the Silverstone modular SFX and hoping the smaller PSU leaves a little more room underneath and to the side to stuff any excess wires.

Guys need a few input on my build (hopefully still be using them by the time case arrives, and probably will :p)

Case: NCASE M1 (obviously)
PSU: Silverstone ST45SF/-G or Seasonic Platinum 520/660 (fanless or no?*)
Mobo: ASUS ROG M6I (waiting but it will match the GPU)
CPU: Intel i5-4670S/K (not into OC as much as I was with pre-SNB, HT is almost useless for gaming, but i m open to options)
RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum 2x4GB (still in box and collecting dust atm, maybe something else by then?)
GPU: ASUS GTX670 mini (still in box and collecting dust)
SSD: Non-SF SSD ~120GB (2.5" or NGFF?)
Cooler: air cooler? single or dual rad close loop AiO? (hence the PSU options*)

Purpose of the building? Straightly for gaming!
I am keeping all my work to my POS build in sig

Reason why I ask is that I wanted to know if these components work well in this case and just wanna see what others thinks
Like for example I know a blow out type GPU will be better but I m kinda stubborn like that
Just want a different view from other although I might not listen but it helps :)

Too bad the serial number won't hit 670 lol since CPU and GPU are both 670 lol
And no PSU are 670W lol nor SSD at 670GB lol
Otherwise it would be perfect lol

What a lol post lol!

Build looks awesome. Just 2 things.. I think I recall reading in a recent ROG ITX review that the NGFF slot only uses 1 PCIe lane, limiting its throughput to only 500MB/s (half of its theoretical limit, I think) which seems to be slightly slower than current 2.5" on Sata3.

Also, the GTX670 Mini. I'm interested in this as well, but am unsure of the cooling since it's not a true blower-style because of its 2 open sides. And the depth.. M1 specs state 4.7" to the power connecter, and Asus just states 4.8" depth for the Mini. Might fit, but I'm not really 100% sure yet. Read quite a few customer reviews saying it wouldn't fit in other small cases.

Found the ROG ITX review I read. They mention the NGFF implementation on page #25...

A little off-topic, but have any of you considered the Evga Stinger Z87?
It looks extremely good! It would fit this case like a hand in a glove!
I'm leaning more and more away from the Impact in favor of this board.

I just realized that the Indiegogo campaign is live! Sorry for being tardy!

I would like to add that the primary reason I supported this is because I've been drooling over it for a long time. The secondary reason is that, even though the campaign is already fully funded, I would like more of these projects to pop up. I've supported a lot of Kickstarter and Indiegogo projects, and this is one of the more expensive ones I've supported.

Thank you, W360 and Necere!

i've read many complaints about their last itx board, the Z77 Stinger. mostly having to do with the bios.
