By the way, it's still possible to get LTI packages. Just gotta find a veteran or original backer since they have LTI locked in on all packages they buy until November 26, 2013.

So find someone you trust, gift him your non LTI package, he proceeds to melt/reclaim it and rebuys it with the grandfathered LTI then finally gifts it back to you. Note though that there is a 24 hour delay before you can melt/reclaim any packages/ships after purchase and there might be a price difference between LTI and non-LTI packages for veterans and original backers. Original backers have the cheapest prices of all.

I noticed that and now I have the reason why. Love that I can still get LTI till November.

im kinda pissed that I missed original backer by 1 day lol. do your prices or the ships available to buy differ from veteran backers?

at this time i'm pretty sure they are the same.

i claimed my veteran status 2 days ago so i have no problem melting for people that need LTI

im not sure about ships available to original backers, but as a vet i see the same ones as a non vet. only difference for me is i can get LTI packages.

Don't know really. As an example I can buy a stand alone Constellation for $225 (base ship with LTI) and the Rear Admiral Package with LTI for $250. How much is it for veterans? And regular people?

rear admiral for me is 275$

connie is 225$ with LTI on base ship

under vet status

Dang... if I could have bought a Constellation for $250, I'd probably do it. $275 just screams ($300!) to me.

are you sure your connie has no LTI, my stand alone comes with it.

You're right, it does come with LTI. Nice. Do note though that stand alone ships are for people who already pledged for a package that includes the game as the ship alone does not come with the game.

i know what you mean, i plan on having a hornet and a freelancer and that comes too basically $235 if i could upgrade to a Rear admiral for 250 i would most likely do that.

LTI on a constellations screams a way better deal to me than on my future hornet which i could just get ingame with credits.

Good to see people bringing more medium ships and bombers. The Space [H]orde is growing capable of taking on a Bengal.

That's a good price. I am assuming you are a pre-Nov 2012 backer?

GrimDraco can get them also for that price. If anyone is interested in Rear Admiral for $250 I can get GrimDraco to buy it for you.

Thanks, but I already spent $125 on the digital Freelancer. There's no way to recoup that and apply it towards the Constellation if he has to buy it. So I'd have to spend $125 + $250 = WAY too much on one game!

thats not true, you can gift him your 125$ package and then he reclaims it for store credit.

Like I explained a few posts above, you can gift the whole package to a veteran or original backer. Then that person proceeds to reclaim the package as credit in their account. You'd pay the difference to that person and they'd buy whatever package you are upgrading to and then gift that back to you.

i would do it but by the time i can afford the admiral pack it most likely wont come with an alpha slot anymore and im not sure how that would work. if i gifted my alpha and it got reclaimed is that a lost alpha slot ect? since alpha is tied to the package and not the account right now.

Yeah if you don't want to miss out on the alpha then you could just wait 'til after it's done. And I'm assuming it will happen before November 26, 2013

Last I saw was December at the earliest.

Hanger Module i think is considerd the first alpha phase which is in August so it would be nice if that attaches your alpha/beta access to your account not your ship package any more.

I wanted to jump on the Lightspeed LTI package but couldn't pull the trigger. The game is just too far off. I will say that I am hype though.

if you really think about it the game isnt that far off.

in august you get to walk around climb in and interact with your ship and in september you can invite friends into your hanger and they can do the same.

in december the Dogfighting alpha start so you get to fly around in the ships that you pledged for.

then after that they are planning to have like a bar/npc interaction enviroment.

then mid 2014 is beta with persistent world exploration ect.

the game will be fed to us as little chucks to play/test constantly so the wait will never feel unbearable. should also give you a chance to really get use to the flight mechanics in the game. the players in the dogfight alpha are going to have a pretty big skill/knowledge advantage to people waiting for open beta/release date

your timeline is just a little off.

march-april they release squadron 42 and then late late 2014 is beta multiplayer not release.

so

late august - hangar module

december - dogfighting

march-april - squadron 42 (single-player)

late 2014 - multiplayer beta

early 2015 - release

these are from Chris Roberts E3 interviews

you have to do it the way i did when i got my retaliator.

i put in in my cart, without the intention of buying it "cough cough"

then leave it there until the star citizen impulse buy madness sets in and then spam the buy buttons as fast as you can until there is no going back.

worked great for me.. except, of course, for the occasional feeling that im a dumbass :D

MISC Freelancer

thinking about still getting the Constellation though. That ship is badass.

btw just read this from chris roberts Q/A on reddit

Balance wont strictly be 8 map ship vs 8 fighters. In the real world the fighters would probably win that match. I think different size ships will have different pros and cons. Bigger ships will be more about carrying more cargo and having more options to upgrade , but 4 people manning a Constellation will probably lose against 4 Hornets.

i know there was a debate about hornets vs a constellation. some people here were saying a constellation will mop up 3 hornets. looks like thats not true at all.

Not to mention that the stella has a horrific blind spot on its ass. and if a hornet disable one of the stella's turrets its game over.

it really depends on how shields work, thier capacity and recharge rates ect and how transfering power to it will work.

2 hornets might not be able to punch through a connies shields in a single pass or attack and giving the connie a chance to fight back.

but 4 hornets could be enough to compleltely strip the shields on the first pass leaving vitals exposed if they are coordinated ect.

a single hornet might have a rough time just getting through a connies shields before its low on laser energy ect there is so much we dont know about the combat mechanics.

lots of speculation in your post.

he also mentions that having a manned constellation is a significant leg up. so if its a single person piloting a constellation its likely they could easily be destroyed by a single hornet if they havent hired AI to help man the ship.

ORLY?
I figured you were a Hornet guy.

Did you get a ship for your honey? Which ship?
I think Brent may have pledged in too.

I'm wondering if I want to pledge for a Hornet in addition to the Freelancer, or just try upgrade to a Constellation for $250.
It's just so much money for one game....

How about both??? hmmm????hmmm???

you have to November so just spread it out plus they may have more sales in the future who knows.

The major drawback for the Constellation is the overhead cost of having it out-fitted and staffed.
Not nearly as much overhead & worry for the MISC Freelancer, that only has a max crew of 2.

I am tempted by the 325a, but figure, why bother? Just get a Hornet instead.
oh that's right.. mass driver cannon!

costs more fuel to run the connie too

stepping up to the connie is a big decision for me and im still undecided.

at the start of the game by the time you hire any crew and make sure its properly insured assuming you did any upgrades beyond stock "those new parts will need insured" there might not be much credits left to buy anything to haul in the connie unless you take out a loan.

i feel atleast with a freelancer i could hire an ai pilot to run some trade missions inthe freelancer and either escort it with the hornet or go off and do some other merc mission with the hornet while the freelancer is off makin some money

i hope we can see the inside of some of these ships soon, i'll want to do that before i buy my second one for exploration

I'd somewhat be disappointed if 3 coordinated fighters couldn't bring down a connie given that it only has 2 turrets, one for tying up the P52 and the other 2 to make coordinated attacks on the connie itself. Though it all comes down to how they set up the weapons, how manoeuvrable the ships are an so on. If the projectiles are slow enough, it might be enough just to sit at max gun range in a fighter and take pot shots at the connie, as the slow projectiles will make it harder for the connie to hit you than it would be for you to hit the connie.

i wouldnt want to fight it from far away. probably gives it a huge advantage, take away its engines get in blind spots etc.

the hornet set up for exploration might not be a horrible idea either. you might just go without missles. the class 3 hard points can take external fuel tanks. so if you got an energy efficient engine/main thruster on the hornet some external fuel pods and convert some storage to more fuel tanks i bet it would have decent range. yet still have enough force with the other weapon mounts to handle a fight.
