I've been waiting for this game to go live before diving into it, so I know little about it other than it looks really good.

Is the game going to have a cost, or be free to play with item store, or what?

Also, can you play offline? I don't MP.

I just got my Kickstarter kit: DVD + poster + sound track etc... Really nice! :)

Love that game. And I'm really glad I helped them ''kickstart'' the project.

you cant play offline , but its instance so you are alone , except in town wich are Hubs.

The game will be F2P and the item store will be cosmetic items. It has been hinted that things like female barbarian instead of the default male will be sold in the cash shop. The game has a solo aspect to it and it has a multiplayer aspect if you wish to team up. There are bulletin boards in game where you can leave a message about what area you are in and others your level can see it. There is a voluntary pvp aspect to the game also. If you wish to pvp you have to turn it on. There is a forum for item trading and channels in game for it also so if you need something and play solo you can still get it easily.

There are leagues such as cutthroat where you can choose to pvp with others in your party. If for some reason you think you should have gotten the last drop but your buddy did, you can fight to the death for it. After someone dies you can loot all their stuff if you wish. Naturally this isn't the default setting for the game, but for those that think they are badass they can partake in it.

They are going to have other leagues such as the races where you level to the highest level in 5 hours. The good thing about this is that it is over a 2 week period. So you enter a character into the race and every time you're ready to compete log into that character. The timer starts and runs until you logout. So you don't have to sit there for 5 hours straight to compete. You could play 15 minutes today, an hour tomorrow, etc until you hit the 5 hour mark. This it to allow people with jobs to compete in races also. Of course they will have traditional races and hardcore races where if you die you get kicked out of the race. You get to keep that character but they can't play in the hardcore league because it died.

Also there will be leagues that you can purchase private server slots for. So if you want to do a special pvp race with your set of rules you can. Grinding Gear Games is trying to cover all their bases but they are a small team. The really good thing is that they actually play the game they develop and will answer your questions in game and on the forums. How many CEO's from Blizzard do you see doing question and answer discussions live with the players?

Hope you and others give the game a try when it comes out of Alpha this month assuming that it is polished enough for them to release it. It's free, lots of fun, and very dark in atmosphere. And most importantly tons of fun!

:)

sweet, I'll be finished with torchlight 2 by then and ready to jump back into PoE.

Full Unearthly set here and three legendaries... what do I do now? WHAT NOW? NG++ I wish people would level up more. I guess it's back to my zerker...

Sorry to de-rail the thread...

I played one of the PoE betas and was tickled by it. The game play was smooth, interesting, and fun. I'll have to check it out on release.

I can tell you that in its current state, the game is fantastic. I spent the better part of Sunday trying out new or newly balanced skills on a couple fresh builds and had a blast.

I actually couldn't care less that I have 6 characters over level 40 locked in Legacy.

They have done a lot right with this title. The only reason I could give a nod to Torchlight 2 is if a great mod came out.

Really excited that they are finally going into open beta. Had a blast during closed beta but stopped playing in July in anticipation of the final wipe. POE is an excellent ARPG and F2P done right. Long (er... looking) forward coming back.

EDIT: Damn auto-correct.

How is the game for single player? I was toying with the idea of prepurchasing and playing over the Christmas holidays but I don't do any multiplayer gaming. Is it pretty playable for SP?

It's a great game in SP as in MP.

I haven't played in a while, so just curious: have they perhaps added any new skills to any class?

Particularly the Witch.

Some great visuals, but they need to get more creative/varied with skills, taking advantage of the great skill system and visuals. I was hoping they'd add more skills, but I don't know if that's anything they even had plans on.

I did go ahead and do the preorder last night so I can try the beta this week ... I got the program all loaded but I doubt I'll get a chance to play until Friday (I'm off for the apocalypse and the start of about 12 days off) ... any recommendations on a good character class ... my favorites in Diablo 2 were the fighter, necromancer, and druid (in D3 I was playing the Monk and Fighter mostly) ... I am thinking of trying the Marauder, Witch, or Dualist ... what are people's recommendations :)

Marauder tank spec is pretty easy to play. Frost Witch with minions is stupid easy. Duelist specced as contemporary RPG rogue is probably one of the hardest specs to play in the game. Only thing harder would be Shadow as contemporary rogue spec.

How is the Shadow character ... I also liked the Assassin in D2 ... is the Shadow similar to that

If you go rogue spec it's kinda hard at the start until you get to the nodes that boost your survivability. Kill fast and die faster. :)

Well see like Marauder tank is so easy you can literally watch a movie on your second monitor if you aren't fighting real hard mobs. If your Shadow rogue spec gets surrounded you need to have an "out" gemmed into your gear. Teleport, run speed, granite flasks that increase your armor by 10,000, etc. Remember that any of the classes can grab nodes in the other skill tree starting zones. It's just easier at the beginning to start say a caster in the Witch or Templar section. You can make a Witch rogue if you wanted. :)

Plan your build out here while you're on lunch break at work.

Wow ... they blocked it at work ... that is an impressive skill tree ... a little daunting ... I will have to play with that a bit ... I am trying to get a little further in Far Cry 3 before I start multitasking on PoE and FC3 ... since I have the full day off Friday it gives me maximum time for both games then :D

I think the skill tree looks more daunting than it really is since all classes have access to the same skill tree but at different starting points within the tree

so if making a single stat focused character like a Witch, you can immediately ignore 2/3s of the skill tree and just focus on the 1/3 that is there for an intelligence-based caster type of character

might be a little daunting for hybrid dual-stat based characters though

I heard at a high level you end up spanning out to other stat nodes even on pure statted characters. I only got a chance to fool around for 1 day during an open beta weekend but I've seen some streams of high level good players (kripp, etc.).

Their builds connected almost all over the place at level 80ish.

Most everything is viable in PoE so you can go all over the place with trees. That's what makes the game fun is that say you start building a Fire Witch with zombies then you might meet up with a melee dual wielding wands snf s decoy totem. Next Witch you play with might be frost nova with a Ice Spear totem. I just saw a Frost Pulse Marauder (warrior starting area) using a dagger. He didn't want to cast his main spells with Blood Magic but he tied his totem to it for fun.

So there are many many ways to build your toon around the trees. I'm thinking of a Bow Ranger with frost spells attached to my arrows and Zombies. Fun stuff!

I felt like a lazy slob after putting in 6 hours yesterday. 20-40 hour sessions boggle my mind.

I know open beta is next month. But anyone have any beta codes or friend invites to spare I'd take one.

Kripp has been up for about 24 hours now. This is the only day where he played a ton. His exp/hour efficiency is crushing the #1 guy. The #1 guy is also being fed high level maps and played way more hours overall, that's the only reason why he's ahead I think.

The number one guy has been playing for over 50 hours straight now. I think he's account sharing with someone at his house. In this game you can die in less than 3 seconds from a mob. No way he's not account sharing.

Wasn't he streaming? I didn't watch it but a bunch of people said he was streaming the whole time.

From what I understand people in his party were streaming; not him. But account sharing is to be expected in races like this.
