Give them some bloody time. The first email is an order confirmation since technically you bought it from their store.
I just got the same email. Which was a response from friday when I entered the code. Still no access to the game, which I should have had, on Friday, when I entered the promo code........
So yeah, ubisoft has a horrible interface. Especially for the "free" games it appears. I had to use IE 7, yes that is internet explorer from 2007 to get the ubisoft website to accept the promo code.
Yeah so, yeah. They are not good imo.
It is some random error with their system. See the below explanation from support.
What I have found is that there was an issue with how the order connected to the Digital River download servers and it is not fully complete. This is why it did not offer a download or activation key for the purchase. The problem has been escalated and they think that they have found the issue and it should be repaired soon. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

As a thank you, Ubisoft is giving you UPlay as a special bonus. Enjoy!

DigitalRiver fucked something up? What a shock! DigitalRiver is god damn horrible. They somehow managed to royally screw up shipping copies of Darksiders 2 to customers, so much so that it forced THQ to give people free copies of the game. Beyond that, keys were screwed up for both it and Saint's Row 3. Not to mention various Origin server problems. DR needs to go.
I hope everyone involved in screwing this up burns in everlasting hell. Merry fucking christmas.
I didn't buy the game or use a promo code and refuse to deal with Ubisoft. No problems so far.
If i don't get my fucking code tomorrow I will fucking pirate every single UBI game from here on out.
There is nothing really wrong with UPlay. It works fine, it doesn't get in the way, and it appears to have a functioning offline mode. Also the user interface is very good.
I bet you don't same the same about Origin. Even tho there is nothing wrong with it

Who is this guy? I like his style!
just an update, I opened up a ticket with Ubisoft on Tuesday and still no response as of yet...

I gotta admit. I was afraid of using that Uplay crap.
IMHO its way better then origin...
Of course ubi soft screwed you over - they are ubi soft. That's what they do. I've boycotted all of their products since 2002, which was the year i bought my very first ubi soft game ever. It was obvious to me even 10 years ago they are a pathetic trashy company.
Read the thread. It's not Ubisoft causing the issue, it's DigitalRiver.

That's not the point...it's still UBIsoft's problem.
Response I got today:
