Sony Vita handheld, buy or pass on it?

When it's out, let me know, until then I've got a PC back-log to finish. The Vita is an incredible system, but it just wasn't justifiable for 2 games.

I can name more than 2 games now. Both Escape Plan and Gravity Rush are good games with good reviews.

Of course Uncharted and Rayman Origins are great. MGS HD is a much own for any MGS fan, which is 2 games on its own.

Super Stardust Delta and Wipeout 2048 are fun on-the-go titles. Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus if you haven't played the original it's great.

Mortal Kombat and BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend are great fighters.

Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes. My boys love these games.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified, Sound Shapes, Silent Hill: Book of Memories, Persona 4: The Golden and Lego The Lord of the Rings all comes out this fall.

Earth Defense Forces 3: Portable doesn't have a release but great series. Almost perfect for a handheld.

I like Stardust a lot, it's the only game I actually beat. The other ones you named don't pique my interest in the least bit. Lego Batman sounds alright, that could be worth picking up if I still had the system, but the Fall ones are just that, coming out in the Fall. I hope even more games come out in the Fall, because I'll surely grab the system again. I'm just a tough crowd when it comes to handhelds. Other than Zelda or Pokemon when I was younger, nothing held my interest if it was portable.

Idk how old you are, but my greatest experience lately was playing Metal Gear Solid 2 on the Vita. If you like MGS at all, it is amazing to think that 10 years ago I was playing that on a Playstation 2 the size of the original Playstation 3 on a big CRT television. And to be playing that game upgraded to HD on a handheld is amazing. On top of that, it had Metal Gear Solid 3 HD, Metal Gear, and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake (I think that's what it's called). Basically giving you 4 games in one.

I heard that Gravity Rush is fun, and the demo was indeed that. Mortal Kombat would have been a instant buy for me if it had the original MK games that the Komplete Edition had on the consoles (MK, MK2, UMK3). But, despite that I heard and read that MK on the Vita is still very good by itself. Stay away from Resistance for Vita though... completely sucked ass. Didn't even finish it... sold that shit on Ebay.

This year will be a good year for the Vita with a entirely new Bioshock coming exclusively for Vita (I think it'll be next year since we haven't heard any more or seen anything about it yet and it's already July), also a Call of Duty, and Silent Hill coming. Although, if memory serves me right, Book of Memories was a online Silent hill game which doesn't excite me much. However, a Resident Evil game would be great for the Vita. Anyway, if you have a capable cell phone right now, I think you could hold off on a Vita unless you really like any of the franchises out on it now...

I'll tell you what though, this holiday season will be great for the Vita. Can't wait to see what comes.

I'm 23, and I was never a fan of MGS, just never got into it really. I'm hoping it's as you say, that it'll be a great year for the Vita, because I'm itching to pick one up again.

For those who care...

Street Fighter X Tekken and Assassin's Creed: Liberation both have an October release date this year.

SF X T comes with a code that unlocks all the extra DLC characters on the PS3 version.

No shit, an Assassin's Creed for the Vita...? Looks like I'll definitely be picking a Vita up in the fall. Was like 75% sure, now it's more like 99%. If you had to put a date on it Kinsaras, based upon my earlier interest in games, when would you suggest picking up a Vita? Septemberish? Kind of a stupid question, I know. I realize a lot of games are coming out in the Fall, but any in September? August?

This time you play as a female in AC3: Liberation.

You can get the special AC3: L bundle in Oct.

Sony announces white PS Vita bundle with Assassin's Creed III: Liberation

Still not sold on the PlayStation Vita? Then Sony's hoping that it's latest bundle will be more to your liking. In addition to the just-announced Assassin's Creed III: Liberation game, it packs a limited edition "crystal white" PS Vita (WiFi only), along with a 4GB memory card. Unfortunately, you'll still have a bit of a wait before you can get your hands on it, with the bundle only set to hit stores on October 30th (coinciding with the game's release). No word on a price for it just yet, nor is there any word on the white PS Vita being sold separately. Not to be left out, the PlayStation 3 is also getting an Assassin's Creed III bundle of its own, which includes the game and some exclusive DLC -- no price for it either, though.

Is this the first time the White one is available, in this bundle? October 30th is quite a wait, though it'd be worth it to get a White one and then the game as well, plus all the other goodies like the memory card, even if it is only a 4GB one.

Crap. I miss my Vita now. Even if I only liked Rayman and Hot Shots Golf. Well there goes "Sellers Remorse" ramping up in my brain. I was always sold on the Vita, but just couldn't justify it since I didn't use it much (work, life, lack of more games, etc.). Now I really miss it. But damn, I really want a white one.

I won't buy one because I do not support Sony's "bigger and better (at a price)" philosophy. I think the Vita is going to be an end of an era.

Yea, it's probably the last portable console from Sony. With smartphones more and more powerful all that is required is for somebody like Apple to release a standard controller accessory for the iPhone for devs to utilize and standalone portable consoles will be done.

I also really dislike how Sony limited Vita on purpose and not allowed it to have a video out so you could connect it to a TV.

Still though, if TEKKEN gets released for Vita and it's really good, I might consider it.

Perhaps the next revision of the Vita will have a TV output like the PSP 2000. I just hope it isn't crippled like the PSP... A HDMI output would be a great addition.

I want the Vita to succeed on the level of the PS3, but sadly I know it won't so I will not buy it.

I love the Vita hardware, but I'm thinking it's headed toward failure. That said, somehow the 3DS is moving units and the game line-up for it is just as bad if not worse.

Pass on it. No real games that seem worth it, go tablet if you want moble gaming.

The old PSP games look incredible on the Vita, assuming you have them downloaded since it can't play UMDs. Two of my favorite PSP games, Loco Roco and Patapon are much better to play on the Vita, due to the larger screen and fast load times. The best feature is that I just just turn off the system in the middle of a game and it'll pick back up where I left off, something that always annoyed me about the PSP.

The actual Vita games are a bit pitiful. I sure hope that a couple epic hits come out for this thing. But frankly, even if all I use it for is playing old PSP games, it's still more fun to use than the PSP ever was. Plus, a lot of the old games are pretty cheap now on the PSN store.

Does it have any good RPGs yet? I sold mine because I never used it. Once it gets better games I'll get another one. Just waiting for FFX, and maybe Assassin's Creed.

Persona 4: The Golden comes out in October. If you haven't played a Persona game, you're really missing out.

That game alone looks like reason enough to go out and buy another system. I was itching yesterday to have it in my hands again, but decided to push the impulse back and not run out and get it again, for now anyway. I was browsing craigslist to keep my impulsiveness at bay by feeding it a bit, and saw a few barely used, immaculate condition systems for $160, with memory cards and a game or two each. Almost no reason to blow $300+ on a new system when so many people are getting rid of them (possibly because of the same reason that I got rid of mine, no interest at the time). Check Craigs people!

I really don't get why people buy a new system/handheld right when it comes out then are all "omg no games, time to sell". It's pretty obvious when you do it's in investment for later. It's not as if you can't look up what games are out and what is coming.

Impulsive buying. Guilty of it like no other.

Vita seems really good especially for watching movies, not sure if its worth the money for gaming

very very very bad service by sony.

tried browse psn using psv, find some games cost 39.99 pound. seriously, with that amount i can buy brand new games like sleeping dog, hitman, why would i want to buy a similar experience on a much smaller screen?

if they want to take my money, at least show me how the game looks like! No gameplay videos, no trailers, not even a fucking screen shot on the game page. How hard is it to copy steam? So apart from the fact that the game cost 40 pound, I have no idea what i will be buying.

some games have demo, rayman origin is good, but seriously, 29.99? Even sleeping dogs are selling at 26.99 on steam.

lazy sony!

What? Sleeping Dogs is $44.99 on steam. How much did you expect the games to cost? I agree that they could be priced better but don't expect $5 games.

According to this Sony is having problems with convincing developers to develop games for Vita. Though they promise, they will convince game companies to make more games.

I am in the UK, vita games are priced on par with all major releases, which I think is plain silly. Check how much Resistance on vita cost on PSN, it should be more than 45 dollars.

The games are a bit expensive, but I haven't seen any over $40, and most are less, plus you save more buying online vs in-store. I guess Sony is just ripping you Brits off, or else those import/VAT fees are kicking you in the ass.

I do agree about the PSN store though. All these years and Sony still hasn't even given us simple screenshots, videos, or anything of the games, just a short synapsis, which hasn't convinced me yet to take a chance on a game.

I wanted a sony vita, but ultimately i decided against it. If this device was more like a smartphone (fully featured web browser and market place) that could game I would of got it instead of a tablet.

PS1 Classics AUGUST 28th for Vita. PSN+ coming to Vita, cloud increasing to 1GB

Also a BLOPS: Declassified Vita bundle announced. New Killzone and Ratchet and Clank for Vita

Playstation All-stars, Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault and Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time leads PS3/Vita "cross play". Meaning buying the PS3 version gets you a free Vita copy.

the developer of COD vita has me worried. Its starting to sounds like a reskin of their previous vita game resistance. Come on Sony throw some AAA at this unit if you want it to sell.

Agreed, Cod from the Trailer looks pretty piss poor to me. Looks really bland, its gonna do more bad than good for the vita. Resistance was OK on vita

Killzone trailer was said to look great. I'd keep an eye on that one.
