Hi,

A few weeks ago, I started looking for a nice and cheap HBA card. I found the M1015 card and after reading all I could find on the card, I bought it!

It's not so easy to know if this card will be compatible with our non-server grade systems. So, I hope everyone owning this card will contribute to this topic and share his experience of compatibility / incompatibility.

i didnt flash them once i recieved the cards, dont remember versions, havnt rebooted the box since i put in place

havnt noticed any compatability issues, works great with any 1,5/2tb drives and no problems
 
Does the M1015 work out of the box with 3TB drives?
and to add to this question, anyone know if they're compatible with FreeBSD 9.x versions?

AFAIK, 6 vs. 3Gbps has nothing to do with a controller's capability to read 2.2TB<....
Correct me if I'm wrong.
 
I'm using 3tb on mine just fine, although it is flashed to IT mode.
 
The M1015 works in my Asus E35M1-I when its in IR mode but refuses to let the machine boot in IT mode.
It works in IT and IR mode in my ZOTAC 9300G-E (I think)
Works in any mode in my Intel Sossaman board and my Tyan s7002 board

You asked for correction, so...

My brain crumbles when I read "2.2TB<" when you actually mean "greater than 2.2TB", which is ">2.2TB". Seriously guys, that's basic math class stuff.

As for the topic, an M1015 in a Z68A-GD65 (G3) in the second x16 slot fails to flash with PAL error in DOS, but flashes ok in the included UEFI shell.

Flashing fails in an Intel S3420GPV and works in an Asus M4A88TD-M.

Well, while it may not read exactly easily, syntax wise it's still fine as the empty spot on the comparison would still leave it having 2.2TB as the lower bound, which is an equivalency of stating x is greater than 2.2. Just saying...
 
Not to draw this out, but the expression 2.2<x is equivalent to x>2.2, so purely mathematically, it still translates. Now, If you're trying to short-hand saying "its greater than 2.2," then yes - you're correct, it would make a lot more sense for him to have wrote ">2.2", which implies x>2.2 - but he did not in fact reverse the sign from the intended mathematical meaning. Anyhow, getting OT and dead horse and all.
 
Config:
  • Asus M5A88-M, bios 901
  • Onboard sound and LAN deactivated
  • Intel Gigabit CT NIC in PCIe x1 slot
  • Single m1015 in PCIe x16 (electrical x16) slot

Flashing to 9210 (P11 with mptbios) and
9211 (P12&P13 without mptbios) worked.
Tested with three different m1015 manufactured
between January 2011 and January 2012.
Booting to OS with and without mptbios works.
 
Thanks -db-, I did not see the P13 release when I flashed my second card! I see in the release notes that it improves the 4K compatibility.

I'll update my cards soon.

Both right and wrong. It's not the SATA standard that was the issue, but LSI cards that do not support 6Gbps also do not support 2+TB drives.

P.S. for what it's worth, I'm using a M1015 in an Intel S3200SH board and it works. Flashed it with the LSI 9240 0077 firmware from Linux (because it is the proper firmware and doesn't need to be erased first - it works fine with single drives...). Was having trouble getting the UEFI shell of the board to recognize the virtual media device of my Lantronix Spiderduo IPKVM so I used the Linux flasher with no issues.
 
Works fine flashed to IT mode in my ASUS P8B WS, and it worked fine in my Intel DP67BG. Passed through to a VM on both motherboards.

It would NOT flash in the Intel DP67BG, but I was able to flash it in the EFI Shell of my MSI Z68MA-ED55. Never tried flashing it in the P8B WS, but another member had stated that he tried in one of those and it didn't work.

It also would not flash in a MSI H61M-E33.

From what I heard a lot of people havent had luck flashing on Asus boards (I didn't), but finding another board isn't that hard for most of us I'd guess.
 
Works great in my Supermicro MBD-X9SCM-F-O, I couldn't flash it on an Intel S5000PAL, but I could flash it on a Dell Optiplex 745 no problem.
 
Works on MSI 890FXA-GD65 motherboards in normal form, without reflashing, either on its own or with two of them ... absolutely perfectly.

Server in signature is running bog standard Ubuntu 11.04x64 with no kernel mods as its automagically detected and initialised.

For the price I paid, £40 per card, they're an absolute steal! So much so that I bought three more to use in a backup server and as a spare.
 
Does anyone have any experience with Asus p8z68-v pro, or Asus P8H67-V or Intel DH67BL and IBM Serveraid M1015?
 
Works on asrock z68 pro 3 gen 3 with default flash and LSI IR/IT.
 
If anyone has questions on if the card will work with their specific board and it is not listed on here I have a few left that i can mail for you to test out, just PM me

Asrock Z68 extreme3 gen3 would not recognize the M1015, or my old LSI sas1068e card no matter what I tried, even when I pulled my video card and ran it in the primary slot.

MSI Z77a-GD65 works great with default firmware and LSI 9211-IR firmware. I was able to flash it with the EFI tool using a usb drive. I currently boot Windows 8 with an 8TB RAID0 logical volume (8 1TB SAS drives) as the only drive and it works great.
