How did we all let something like this slip by unnoticed?

The bill is sweepingly broad, and would make it a crime to communicate via electronic means speech that is intended to “annoy,” “offend,” “harass” or “terrify,” as well as certain sexual speech. Because the bill is not limited to one-to-one communications, H.B. 2549 would apply to the Internet as a whole, thus criminalizing all manner of writing, cartoons, and other protected material the state finds offensive or annoying. The Bill is currently on Governor Jan Brewer’s desk awaiting her decision on whether to veto or sign the bill.

I find the content of this bill offensive. Can I file a criminal case against the state of Arizona therefore, since the text is online?

Wow...Police State much! Fuck the government, all of them!
Would that have been illegal under this law?
Meh...

There's a Comic Book Legal Defense Fund

That alone should pretty well tell you how overly shitty this country has become.

Comic Books need attorneys. Things we read in the 50's and 60's for fun are now
considered something that needs legal funding to protect.

Attorneys fuck everything up, period.

I hope that when the zombies attack, they eat the attorneys first. Oh wait....brainless
don't eat other brainless huh. Damn

I heard about this, that it made it past step1 but it wasn't supposed to make it past step 2! Once again Arizona is challing Te.... on second thought that saying would get me killed around here, the bill is nutty.

Don't post the Constitution online! This law would make that illegal!

This could be good news, since I'm offended and annoyed everytime Obama reads from his tele-prompter.

I wonder when people will wake up and stand up for the Constitution. All these things the Government is doing are against the Constitution. You can't make a Law that says you get to kill whoever you want wherever you want any more than you can make a Law limiting the free speech of a free nation. Oh wait.... They did both.....

More to the point, I wonder when they'll make a new Constitution that is more specific and uses more up to date language than what they were using 230 years ago.

I've heard South Africa has a pretty bitchin' one. Maybe Zuma ain't the best but their Constitution is allegedly pretty awesome.

This is not the first time Arizona has tried to pass extreme legislation that goes against what is actually legally acceptable. I think that if anyone took this to court, it would likely be struck down as unconstitutional.

I mean, a federal law might not, but I don't think the federal government looks too favorably on states that try to pass things like this themselves without their consent. They would be all too happy to step in and look like our protectors in a situation like this. They've done it before, they'll do it again.

In the meantime, I'm glad I don't live in Arizona. If I had the money, I'd go live in California, honestly. That's where all the tech companies are.

I live in AZ. This makes me sad.

I would like to live in Cali as well for beaches, but not for high taxes and broke government.

No you may not, because even though this isn't really a RTFA moment, it's a RTFsynopsis

that is intended to

So them writing a bill, a church spewing hatred about gays, nazis hating the blacks, are not intending to be offensive, they just are.

So the rule of the day kids, much like don't say shit to cops, is to always say "I did not intend that to be"

Be fair to attorneys.

They're paid by other people to fuck shit up, they're just doing their job.

Must be the heat. Constitutional squashing coming if this sucker passes.

Get ready to foot a million dollar plus legal fund on this one Arizonians.

Doesn't really matter. It'll get tossed out like a lot of the other fascist laws the senile racists in Arizona try to pass.

I saw a headline about this on Sunday and just assumed this was an April Fools joke.

Trolling is now punishable with 25yrs in the Slammer in Arizona. ;)

Funny...I'm the one getting pissed off and on by our government (everyone with power to affect others) and yet you say I'm trolling! Shit, they're trolling me.

I just got off the phone with the GOVERNOR JANICE K. BREWER's assistant @ 602- 542-4331 option 4. I let them know that this is in violation of the constitution that allows FREE SPEECH, 1st amendment of the Constitution. I highly recommend you guys do the same. Call and tell her to OPPOSE the HB 2549 if you want a chance to kill this. We killed the SOPA/PIPA bill so let's do it again here.

Here is the Constitutional amendment they are trying to eliminate: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution

If you do not make the call, who will?

I find your speech offensive and it terrifies me. That is another 25yrs. I hope you're not in Arizona.

No! Those stupid, rights-destroying progressive democrats are at it again! They are trying to take my rights away!

Oh. It's Arizona?? Hmm...

:)

The bitch needs to veto it!!!

That is not meant to harass or annoy her. Just good common sense advice to keep the ACLU off her ass.

I have no doubt the Ninth Circuit there will just laugh this one back out the door, if it's signed. I don't care who thought it up, or which party they belong to something this sweeping is just stupid.

I would like to see this law enforced on teenage boys talking smack-talk on gaming servers.

It would be hilarious! :D Every teenage boy in the country would be charged in Arizona under this law :p

Next up. Stand your ground on the internet law!

Free to shoot anyone who annoys or offends you online! :p

If that were the case, then the population of WoW would drop by a few million. The WoW general forums alone, would fill up Arizona's prisons in no time. ;)

Well, that, and if you ever have the misfortune to be arrested, your first or second call probably won't be to a doctor or plumber.

Trolling is one of the greatest things ever. All that is ever involved in avoidance is pushing the monitor power button. If you ever get trolled and suicide, or have depression, then your genetics are simply too weak for this world and shouldn't be re-produced in the first place.

I really do have to say, I fully support simple trolling.

If you come out here to California, you wouldn't have your money for long.
Many of the tech companies are moving or only expanding out of state due to our high taxes, energy cost, and high overall cost of living. This is why our unemployment numbers are so high.Yet, they are still trying to raise taxes even more.

Lawmakers should have to do jail time for making laws that a 2 year old knows violate the Constitution.

Politicians should not be allowed to govern anything they dont know how to use.. Like the fucking internet..
