Any VA recommendations?

Looking to replace my wife's BenQ FP241W (24" / 1920x1200 / P-MVA). The BenQ is 5 years old and there's significant burn-in, the hardware's acting up (flashes off/on couple times a day). Time to replace it.

Color reproduction is not critical, need good blacks (no IPS glow) & viewing angles just need to be good while in front of the monitor, so *VA tech seems like the right way to go. But would be nice if response times are good enough for games as well.

I'm finding some cPVA displays here and there, NEC EX231Wp & Samsung F2380 but these are 1080p.

Are there any good 16:10 1200p VA panels out there?

Just to make it clear: one should not look for good viewing angles in VA technology.
However it can fit many needs even with "VA viewing angles".

Unfortunately there are no "recommended" monitors on VA now. They are all compromises.
c-PVA has not grown over 1920x1080.
You can see one 1920x1200 among Eizos but it's an older overpriced S-PVA wide gamut junk.
It would have been nice to see full resolution c-PVA (1920x1200, 2560x1600).

If you really want VA and can put up with low 1080 resolution and colorshift - better options can be found among newer 23" c-PVAs (Eizo, Nec) and 24" MVA from Samsung (650 series).

PLS might be an option.

I am not bothered by the viewing angle of my P-MVA panel.

current VA have large contrast ratio and slow response time. Had those and there is nothing interesting in those monitors. Also going from 1920x1200 to 1920x1080 is like punch in face :(

From new good monitrors Dell U2412M is interesting with it's >1000:1 performance. Samsung PLS monitors are also interesting for their nice semi-glare coatings, though colors will be slightly oversaturated on those and price tag is much higher.

Unfortunately, there don't look to be any new VA 1920x1200 panels out there, and very few TNs. Only IPS.

The MVA panel in the LG 245/246WP monitors was the same AUO panel as the BenQ FP241W. Good panel for its time.

The S24A850D has the exact same anti-glare as these screens. I have one that I'm going to try and return. The back-light bleed is horrendous, and there is a gold corner clouding on the bottom right-hand corner that emanates/radiates a good six inches into the panel.

Very disappointing. I also have the 27". I'm on my second S27A850D and it is great, better than the first (which had a pixel defect). The first S27A850 was also better than the S24A850.

Both still have white IPS glow, which the OP does not want.

you can actually see ips glow sitting in front of 24" version?
how does it compare to e-IPS like U2412M?

from modern IPS panels I only saw U2410 and 2209WA and those monitors were IPS-glow-free when watching monitor frontally

I'd agree. My first shot in this post is from 24" away and there is another picture at the bottom of the photos in this post of the monitor from an angle and brightness at zero.

I think the U2412M is a very good screen for this, and another user said the U2410 was actually better in regards to white glow, so I can't see this as being a huge problem either.

BenQ has has numerous series of VA paneled monitors... Are you interested in going back to them?
For example I have the EW2420 and it's a great monitor. I'm sure it'll produce similar or superior experience to what you had with your old FP241W. It's LED backlit so the colors should last a bit longer than on your old one. It'll be nice on the eyes, low glare as well. I love it because it's extremely bright and the colors are vibrant and amazing. 3000:1 contrast ratio does wonders on a 24" monitor. Also sports 2 HDMI, 1 DVI, 1 VGA for your choice of inputs. VA panels as you've experienced are really nice for text reading and with LED backlighting it should give less eye strain and have longer duration of sustained colors. BenQ has quite a range of other VA panel based monitors if you're looking for VA panel...
