Rage sucks

So you guys that still have it, are you still having trouble with it?

Haha, thinking of renting it from steam again? I have enjoyed it, warts and all, from the day I installed it. I have stopped about 17 hours in because I want to play other stuff before there's no more Rage left.

The game is not terrible but not great either. I am at the 12 hour mark Its an ok game. Definetley worth 60 bucks the last patch at least made the game playable.

Err EDIT

Not worth 60 bucks.

According to carmack they are releasing a patch soon that will make textures look better upclose?

http://twitter.com/#!/ID_AA_Carmack/status/124916837791186945

I wonder if developers will try to do unique textures throughout the world like this in the future. I'm not sure of another game that has done this before. To me, the way I look at it, it's kinda like when N64 came out and 3D started becoming big... in my eyes things looked horribly blocky/blurry and overall not as good as the current 2D games... Rage kinda reminds me of that time, where a new form of tech comes in that is technically more advanced but looks much less detailed. Like it's maybe ahead of it's time... not sure how to explain that, but that's how I'm feeling. It wasn't until the PS2 era that I got more into 3D gaming...

They should really post that high res pack for one level, at least just to show us how much better it looks. Maybe as a teaser for what Doom 4 textures will look like?

Does anyone know of this rumor about a 100gb texture pack being produced for the PC version?

Good god. I booted up the game tonight for the first time with the fucking 1gb large patch and the game looks horrible. The game looks like they put tons of polish into it but the textures totally ruin the game and the immersion which is really too bad. I also can't keep vsync enabled which is driving me crazy, and I honestly don't feel like jumping through hoops anymore to download cfg files to fix a broken game like this. In the past I wouldn't mind having to take extra time to tweak a game, but this is a huge slap in the face. All I can say is fuck you Carmack, lol. Don't even try to make doom 4.

i'm still looking for that texture pack that was in the doom 3 pic on page 35

In regards too rage i feel the gtx 580 3GB cards play the best since they have all that extra ram for textures. Perhaps rage is detecting that the cards don't have enough ram to run the visuals very well?

Rage is HIGHLY moddable like Doom 3, right...?

So a fully-fledged RPG mod is only inevitable, right?

To make textures for the game you need a PC with 192gb of system memory is what Carmack said. So don't expect any.

The game is so much fun. I like the game, the control is so smooth. Especially when play with a 360 controller. Killing and gunning feel so satisfying.

They definitely nailed the control. Have a look at the video, it is from a PC gamer

Its silly playing a fps on the pc with a controller. Thats like playing a guitar with my feet.

Driving is the only time that makes any sense at all.

If you wish, you can also check out this page. It has all the necessary files for Doom 3 Sikkmod 1.2, as well as high resolution textures from Monoxead and Wulfens textures all in one package.

As said above, some options might be better off disabled. With all options enabled, my GTX 560 at 1280x1024 only gets around 8-10 fps.

Same, but the textures are still trashy. Trash as in blurry and something out of a 6 year old game.

The only textures that look bad are up close ones. I don't think the point of this game is to have good looking up-close textures, but to have the world look good as a whole, which it does.

I'm enjoying the hell out of playing the game with a controller, too.
Like the guy in the video mentions, it's just like playing what would equate to an "Xbox 720" or whatever they decide to call it right now.
With the patch installed, the up-close textures are still ugly, but then again, they're ugly on the consoles, too. The PC version still beats the hell out of both of them handily...and it cost me a whopping $10 less than either one, too. Plus, if I want to play with a KB/M, I can without any problem at all.
I'd say some of this is coming down to PC folks wanting something special that the consoles don't get, and I think those days are coming to an end for a lot of developers.

Technologies evolves, so does ways of playing games. I can feel much of development effort poured into tweaking the controller gameplay. It just feel so nature/smooth.

Sure, but even if that's not your cup of tea, the KB/M still works fine, too. Mouse twitch aiming is always quicker, so I use mine here and there for parts where aiming really counts.
The nice thing is that the current batch of PC game support both rather well, and many even have a totally unique UI depending on whether you want to use the KB/M or the controller...or even both.
The PC version of Rage essentially has everything the console version has...plus more. Our version cost the same (or less depending on where you got it) and you get everything the console versions have, so I fail to see some of these complaints.
I'd rather have a glitchy game on day 1 than to have them delay it (a la Batman).
Face it, the PC is the #3 platform at the moment (sometimes #4), so we're not always going to get special treatment. That's life. We still almost always get the best version of everything.

I also can't keep vsync enabled which is driving me crazy.

This is because of nvidia's drivers. They are hiding the game profile and forcing vsync off.

The game is working fine now. Textures up close aren't great, but the shooting feels fantastic. The landscapes look great IMO.

With the vsync issue - are you doing it in-game or using the Nvidia control panel?
I just ignore the in-game vsync setting and force it in the Nvidia drivers. No issues so far, although I'm on a 1-card system.

That's right, we still have the best version of games. Yet, there are 4 millions people complaining about Rage. I just don't get it, the game is already patched now. Does texture quality really that important? Most of the art development effort, as far as I can see, is devoted to make scenes artistically beautiful, but not technologically stunning. All my console gamer friends like how the game looks.

You are right, PC is the fourth gaming platform. Just look at how these stupid PC gamers complain about everything. If I were a game developer, I would make games on Wii, 360, PS3, or even iPad. At least gamers there are fucking grateful !!! Heck, just look at how they complain about BF3 beta. You guys are destroying the platform not the developers!!

The game is not patched. There are still a lot of people experiencing texture corruption. I can't play the game. And there are complaints from nvidia users also so this is not something limited to ATI.

Ok I just beat the game on Medium, but got achievements for Easy, Medium and Hard :p

spoilers:

The ending, WTF. No epic boss fight, no conclusions, no end. I GUESS WE'LL HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE DLCS TO COME OUT, HUH? SHRUG SHRUG NUDGE NUDGE

Ok, I really hope there is a solution for this.

Has anyone figured out how to noclip or teleport to a city? I didn't realize the game didn't allow for free roam afterwards, it didn't even give me any warnings. I still have a ton of sidequests to finish, but I'm already stuck in Capital Prime. I know console cvars were disabled in the latest patch too...

Anyone know how I can backtrack to outside of Capital Prime without restarting? :(

And there,my friends,is why gaming has gone in the toilet. Who cares if the game companies crank out half baked, half assed games, you should just be grateful and fork over your hard earned cash. Who needs imaginative gameplay that lasts more than a few hours,or graphics designed for hardware that isn't six years behind the times. Don't think, don't complain, stay asleep . . . .

yup...I keep referring to an article from a few weeks ago titled "In gaming everything is amazing but no one is happy"

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2011/09/gaming-everything-is-amazing-and-no-one-is-happy.ars

some of the best games have come out for the PC over the past year or 2 yet no one is ever happy and all they do is complain about petty things...Kyle rips Crysis 2 and RAGE and takes an almost morbid joy out of constantly bashing them (even after they have been patched and updated with high-res texture packs and DX11 features)

Some of you people need to stop playing video games all together. All of you people saying BF3 sucks are in denial, or don't have a computer that can handle it 40 fps up.

I wouldn't mind if they did this at all. Stop releasing half baked stuff then fix it if it sells enough!

Yahtzee, as always, has put it best:

"Yes, there are games I like, games I love, do I want to play a new installment of the same thing every few years? NO! The fastest way to spoil your pleasures is to make them routine. Variety is the spice of life and status quo is the starch. The star that shines brightest is all the more glorious for its brevity, or to bring this metaphor down to a broader cultural level, The Simpsons has been running for 21 seasons and hasn't been good since the fifth."

That's what these games are: competent but bland garbage, games that take no risks and push no envelopes. Games that don't have a single original idea through their entire lengths. I would rather play a shit game that at least brings something new to the table than another uninteresting brown-grey first person shooter with ADS mechanics. It's just insipid, like eating nothing but plain Triscuit crackers for all eternity, quite edible, but crying out for something more. It flabbergasts me that people can still be content to keep playing more and more of this legion of mediocre, unoriginal fuckpoop games.

Try playing Arkham City next week, then tell me about how fun and interesting Rage is.

yet the most popular games are the same repetive ones like BF3 and CoD  ...what unique games have been released recently?...Witcher 2?...nope...seems like you have your mind already made up about Arkam City before playing a minute of it...Arkham City is Arkham Asylum multiplied by 5 (and that's meant as a compliment)

RAGE is unique in its own way...people are 'raging' about it for it's graphics issues moreso then the gameplay...people that have actually finished the game actually enjoyed it for the most part

where are all these unique games that you have been playing?...I would love to play them too...seems like you were just giving us your version of gaming utopia versus actual reality

Rage was a superb experience for me. I feel like a minority compared to the un-washed masses that seem to think John Carmack owes them something personally for destroying their hobby.

While I like Rage so far (actually really do), its a lot like Borderlands (which I LOVED). So lets not claim its new game play. You basically do everyones bidding for them, for weapons and stature. To help save the world of course. Just like borderlands. So many things are similar or exactly the same. Sure Rage was announced first, but Borderlands came out 2 years ago. Yes this has been brought up before, but its true.

Game play is most important, but graphics are too. It is a valid complaint when the game doesnt look like screen shots from years ago, or even games that came out years ago. Not to mention the problems they had the first week it was out with graphical problems like tearing and pop up.

Personally I think most people are upset because most old school gamers had high hopes for this game because id made it. id was an instrumental part of early PC fps gaming (obviously) and they have always been on the forefront of graphics. Their engines the benchmark for graphic cards. Not so much this time. Add to the fact that the PC suffered from being co-developed along side the console, its a bitter pill to swallow. Some people feel betrayed because Carmack and id were founded on PC gaming, and then consoles came along id went with them. I realize its all about the bottom line, but PC gamers (or anyone for that matter) can be a fickle bunch. Im sure down the road they will get higher res textures, or someone will mod it. Bugs will be fixed, etc. Then it will be an excellent game. As it is now, its good, but could have been so much better upon release, imo.
