Dark Souls Thread

Thanks, can anyone suggest a good place to grind some souls now? i need to grind out for the witch in the Swamp, someone said the forest was good to grind out 20k souls in 30 minutes or so.

Edit - also forgot, Can i use all the "soul" items (IE Soul of a nameless hero, soul of a proud knight, etc) or are there any of them that need to be used for crafting/weapon upgrading, etc? I remember in Demon's souls wasting one that coulda been used for a weapon upgrade, NEVER gonna do that again so I haven't used a single one yet, have about 30k worth of souls from those in my inventory if I can use them.

Best place to farm souls is in Darkroot Garden, 6k souls easy in 2 to 3 minutes, just equip light armor so you can run faster. Here's a you tube video of the method.

love this game to death but it can be aggravating as hell. i have the strat guide and have been killed by the capra demon somewhere around a dozen times, finally took a break. guide says to use stairs on left. bastard is on top of me so quick i've only made up there twice, only to be attacked in the corner where he supposedly can't get u.... getting back after it tomorrow a.m. :)

The capra demon was by far the bigest cakewalk boss for me, I don't get what everyone is talking about with him being so hard. I had a LOT more trouble with the Asylum demon by far.

Capra was so easy, just fight him like you do most melee guys , block his attack, roll around back and attack a bit, bring your shield upt o block, then roll again, etc. He had no special moves (at least when I fought him) or anything.

I also read you can perch on the top to the right of the stairs (there's a little balcony area) and he won't be able to reach you, and you can use range attacks from there to kill him easily.

Melee fighting like an ordinary guy wouldn't be so bad, but the damn dogs, they all corner me....

That balcony where I should be able to hit him with arrows... he's knocked me off it twice.

sure i'll get him easy at some point. just frustrating when sometimes it feels like luck of the draw. example... asylum demon was a cakewalk for me, first try, no sweat.

To kill the Capra demon easily, run around him and up the stairs and drop down on the balcony. From there take the dogs out and then you can fight the Capra demon without issue.

The dogs is what kills you, kill those and you've won the fight.

Anyone know where to find Kirk, the Darkwraith NPC?

thanks for the help.

how common is summoning for everyone? i find that when i write a summon on the ground when i'm undead it typically takes 10 minutes or so to get summoned to someone else's game. when i'm human form trying to summon someone to my game, its VERY rare to see any white writing on the ground for someone waiting to be summoned.

Depends on the time of day really. Ive found people at 4AM and have been summoned that late but depending on the boss/area you'll get more people.

Thanks man, time to go human form in demon ruins.

For the first time, I am pissed I am a thief. The iron golem boss in sens fortress has killed me about 40 times because the grab and throw (which is supposed to be between his legs, but he always grabs me from way the he'll away) is instant death.

If you get to him as melee, DO NOT LOCK ON TARGET. You will roll right into his bullshit grab and he will instant kill you.

2 patterns for grab move
1. swing between his legs
2. swing around right side

so roll over to his axe side or roll away from boss instead of side
hit and away is the most safe tactics against him if you are pure melee
his axe swings are really easy to dodge and roll into him everytime he swings axe at you and hit him twice and roll away - repeat - dead golem

Exactly, don't spend time hanging out around him, back off after your attacks, so easy to dodge his when you keep some distance, rinse and repeat.

I think a lot of people watched that 24 hr IGN stream and tried to replicate half the shitty tactics those guys used in this game. TERRIBLE players. I still don't understand how they lost to Ornstein and Smough so many times...

Capra Demon really didn't give me much trouble. I'm a melee only character, relatively high HP, STR and DEX. The only tricky part of the fight is the first few seconds. If things go south he and the dogs trap you between the door and the stairs and that's game over. But if you can get past him onto the stairs, the dogs are easy pickings, and you can keep running a circle: fall off the stairs, run up the stairs, fall off the stairs, run up the stairs, and so on. Every cycle or so the demon will stand near the highest point of the stairs and look up. You can hit him with a falling attack for about 1/3rd fo his health. Plus, it's a very short, almost fight free run back to his room.

A couple of questions:

1. In Darkroot basin, behind the hydra boss there is an extended shallow water path that takes you to what looks like a crystal golem. Is he just a regular crystal golem or a boss?

2. After killing ringing the 2nd bell, there is a hidden bonfire blocked by some undead guy. When he asked me if I was a new servant, I said no and now he won't let me pass. How can I get past him now?

Can someoneo suggest a good weapon after the drake sword?

I'm lv 34 now and still using it, just haven't found anything better.

I'm a pyro and built so far mainly str/end and some dex.

I do have the Dark Knight Greatsword (went back to the asylum, the DK's there didn't drop the one-handed version which I wanted, only tinate chunks).

I heard a lot of people suggest the lightning spear. what are the req for it? I have the Astora's sword as well, but it uses Faith and I have put 0 points in that.

1. He's not a boss, but he's not a regular monster, either.

2. Kill him. He sells some Pyromancy spells that you won't be able to buy. It's possible you could "reset" him by talking to the absolution guy in the Gargoyle church, but I don't know.

The lightning spear has very low requirements. Something like 10 STR 10 DEX. It's also ridiculously powerful. I had a +10 winged spear that was doing like 40-50 per hit to the snake's in Sen's Fortress. This is with 20+ DEX, so not a lot, but not a chump amount either. The lightning spear hits for 120+. It does more damage than my dark knight sword.

The lightning spear is in a treasure chest in Sen's Fortress. You can't miss it. Or should I say, it won't miss you...

I went back to the asylum and he didn't drop either of the swords, unfortunately. The other one did drop the shield. These must be random drops since you didn't get either weapon.

I've got my bandit knife up to +10. Is lightning the way to go?

Try reloading the game. See if that helps. I know that worked for me on another NPC that asked me a question and I accidentally chose the wrong answer.

And on the Capra Demon. If you can get to the stairs and take the dogs out, let him come up the stairs and then dive off. He will jump down after you and because he's so heavy, it takes him 2-3 seconds to stand back up after landing. That is a perfect time to hit him with a couple of heavy attacks and run off again.

Its an unlockable NPC you can summon later, take care of business.

Just say "Yes" to his question if you are a new servant, you gain access to the bonfire and you do NOT need to take the covenant.

Alrighty so I just cleared out Sen's Fortress and Darkroot Basin/Garden. Should I go to Anor Londo now or go to The Great Hallow/Ash Lake or that hell looking place past Quelaag which I just turned around immediately cause it looked scary :D.

Anor is a pretty good place to go, just for the reward after beating the boss. Before you start it, I'd suggest you do your return to the Asylum if you haven't already. This will let you do Painting of Aramis (a level accessible within Anor Londo).

How the hell do you kill that thing that guards the entrance to the darkroot garden? The thing right down the stairs from the blacksmith in undead parish (or is it new londo)?

Just attack him from the back and keep your shield up when he does the double side swipes. That's pretty much the only thing he'll be able to catch you with as his other two moves are really telegraphed. It's slow as hell though, I'm not gonna lie cause I took him on at like SL10 and was hitting him for 30 dmg lol.

One thing to do is if you have some really heavy armor is just to go 2H with the most damaging weapon you have and just do more damage than he does to you.

Or get a solid 100% dmg block shield and if you have enough stamina you can block all his melee attacks.

If you have magic you can just kill him from range which is the easiest.

I finally beat the iron golem with a 100 or so arrows. Cheesed the shit out of it. :p

Kind of funny how some people have problems with certain parts of the game. I fought the iron golem probably 50 times, but I did all of the Depths in a single run.

I didn't have any arrows to try it, you can see the Iron Golem from the window to the side of the white gate, I wonder if you can damage him before going through the gate.

I didn't have a problem killing him melee, but it would be interesting if they deliberately put a way to snipe him from afar.

Damn I have Havel the Rock and the Big Knight to kill now. Finally got the Knight Shield and have just been kinda running around farming souls. SL 25 with the Drake Sword and not sure who to take out first. Have tried Havel a couple times with no armor but he usually kicks my ass after only getting a couple shots on him. Is it wise to just go 2h with the Drake Sword since he pretty much kills you no matter what if he connects?

No. Take off all your armor for max roll and just backstab him. If you try to melee him face to face you will likely die.

I didn't try, but I did try on the giant dropping the boulders into the fortress. He can be hit from back near the bonfire, but looks like it would take a lot of arrows. It would stop the boulders from rolling you over if you wanted to explore more.

Man, for all the people that whine about Blighttown, I find Sen's Fortress to be 10x the pain in the ass.

The bonfire is so damn far into it, I've probably lost about 6 hours just trying to get through it. I always get to that part where the yo have to go across the very very tiny walkway with 4 blades and you can't sprint through all and I keep forgetting to stop after the second one and fall off.

there's actually hidden bonfire in sen's fortress :p

Is it closer to the first area? Cause the only one I know of is the one whre you have to jump off the roof down onto the balcony , that's the one I've been trying to make it to.

unfortunately that's just it

Blood Shield from the painted world is sooooooooooo sexy. The only small shield with 100% physical reduction, +50 bleed/poison/curse resistance, and the largest parry/riposte window due to it being classified as a small shield.

I'm still deciding on what weapon I should take to lightning +4 since that's all I have enough for. I've been using a Claymore +10 and Zweihander +10.

i think blood shield goes under normal shield and there's no small shield with 100% block i believe
blood shield is good but stability only goes up to 75 even at +15 ;/
