Battlefield 3 - Official Thread

Apparently lots of invites have gone to users that aren't even PC users and who don't even have PC's with minimum specs capable of starting BF3 let alone running it

What a waste.
Blizzard solved this in '09 when their beta registration required a program that recorded and upload your system specs :)

The gun models look like better versions of the BF2 models, which is good of course. The assault rifles in the Bad Company games look like complete junk.

Getting revived still gives a death, contrary to previous BF games (sans BC2). Medic class is officially dead. Auto-heal and everyone is going to opt out of revives to do damage control on their KDR

What would you want DICE to do? Use a program to verify the people computer is up to standard.

I like how you conveniently ignored the part that said "non pc users". People with Veteran 1 (Battlefield Heroes) are also getting invites instead of people with Veteran 4+. How is that not shitting all over your fans? Who is more likely to fully test and play throughout the alpha trial? Some random guy who never played Battlefield or a Battlefield veteran that has played all the games for hundreds of hours?

Looking forward to this game more than ever. Definitely going to be battling for time with SWTOR this coming fall (if neither get delayed.. I'm looking at you, SWTOR!).

I absolutely love the animation system they have in place from what I've seen. Soldiers pivoting and rotating their body while running as if to keep their balance. I want it!

Didn't notice the non pc part tbh. Just read it too fast that is all.

Just goes to show how much DICE really cares about its [real] fans...

imagine that, a potentially wider audience than only the biggest, most entitled jerks with verteran 500 (or people that just lied to support and got shot up to veteran 8) might have been something they were aiming for.

afaik, if you had veteran status on your account and signed up for their newsletter you had a chance to get in, as simple as that.

It's what Bioware did for the Old Republic beta, yes. That IS what I expect DICE to do.

Your are only going to get screwed over by a revenge kill from a killcam if you are in the same spot some 30-45 seconds after the kill. You don't respawn automatically and you don't respawn where you died so if the guy you killed gets you based solely on your killcam it's because you haven't moved.

Meaning you want COD 51: Run and Gun like you've runned and gunned in the past 50 games.

You're the one who's a poor player if you rely on killcams to find "hackers" and get revenge kills. COD != BF. Never has, and really, NEVER SHOULD.

How important is the old 'Medic' class in this game that has been merged into the 'Support' and 'Assault' roles? I remember playing an old old fps game called 'Star seige tribes' and I used to love playing the 'repair' // 'healer' // 'support' roles in that game.

guys there's no way shit is going to change at all it's alpha dice is fucking us agai...

I'm sure there will be unlocks that augment increased 'medic' abilities to the Assault class and vice versa for a purely 'assault' role. The reshuffled classes mirror 2142 perfectly and that game is one of the most balanced first-person shooters I've ever had the pleasure participating in.

For example, in 2142 the Assault class had two unlock trees. One that unlocked an extremely powerful rifle and excellent anti-personnel explosives. The other tree unlocked the all-important defibrillator and a medic pack with increased healing capacity. The Support class unlocked either a phenomenal long range heavy machine gun complimented with a sentry for great suppressive fire or an insane close range semi-automatic shotgun with what the recon ball in BC2 would be. It was a great system that encouraged specialization behind each class that was well thought out. Of course if you played long enough you can unlock everything and so I certainly hope DICE follows the same philosophy with BF3.

I don't run and gun...well done on the assumptions. I just don't sit in one spot while telling myself I'm so good while the rest of my team caps flags and gets shit done...I actually do what's required of me given the situation. I don't run around simply trying to get kills or "rambo"ing, and I don't camp like a whiny bitch on the internet trying to preserve my precious KDR. If you read something personal in what I wrote then that's your problem.

And FYI I wasn't whining about no killcam or even saying that there should be one. I made a rather harmless and specific observation that killcams discourage camping. Killcams actually can serve a positive purpose despite being from that crummy no-skill COD franchise and if you are finding yourself getting screwed over by them because you didn't relocate for an entire 60 seconds then it's your own fault. I'm certainly not going to be annoyed about there being no killcam like the people here whining about no commander and no comma-rose.

Well let me put it this, what other FPS is coming out that even looks remotely fun?

The best part of those vidoes? He's getting 60-70 fps @ 1080P with 1x GTX 580.

Looks like an upgrade won't be necessary for most.

That engine has got to be optimized to hell and back.

I don’t think you heard about the new Cow Mangler 5000 and it’s endless pew pew lazors when activating premium in a premium server.

jk :D

He has a pretty beef cpu tho, I'm still stuck with a C2Q and a 5850 :( , plus he's not playing on a 64man server, it's only an alpha build anyway, graphics on max seettings may look a lot better and more gpu/cpu intensive on the final build, personally i really wanna play with FXAA enabled, regular AA is so damn ineffective judjing from BC2

not 64ppl on that server so, that will add some fps drop later on.
but I would assume ppl need to lower settings to play it good due to cpu power also is needed with destruction.

Is it still possible to get into the BF3 beta (when it happens) by buying MoH or has that time come and gone?

A bigger audience you say? You mean people with substandard PCs? People with NO PCs at all? People who don't give a crap about it and don't play it at all?

Marvellous!

1000 people that can't/won't play it vs 100 "self-entitled jerks" who'll play it 24/7 and test/push it to the extreme, yes, I can see how the first option is better

You want them to come to each home they want to give the alpha invite to and check if they have a PC,and if it is good enough?

You want all kinds of people for testing, not just the dudes that live breathe and eat Battlefield.

Casual gamers (or non-gamers) are extremely good at pointing out obtuse or awkward design decisions. There's a reason why Valve just picks up random people from the street to test their games.

There is still time, but MOH buyers just get it early.

I would hold off unless you get a good deal, and absolutely refrain from buying it on Steam unless some more information comes out. When I bought MOH on Steam when it was on sale, it was actually the "standard version" so watch for that. I'm sure a lot of people are thinking they have the limited one and are wondering why they don't have an invite. Also, with BF3 not being on Steam, one can guess they might not even be sending invites to that crowd. I will be very surprised if anything turns up in my inbox regarding beta.

I like that he went to the trouble of concealing his username throughout all of his videos and just shows it on his progression screen at the end of the round.

i noticed that too. on top of that, his username is damn near identical to his youtube account name.

You really shouldn't expect people in pub servers to be playing 100% serious and to win all the time.

So we can go buy that crapfest medal of honor limited for PC from like a gamestop and be eligible to play the BF3 beta sooner or what?
