Post your workstations 2011

This will be my very first post here at [H]...
It's not so much a workstation, but rather a "fun station" the CM 690 II on the left is the daily driver and to the right is the "benching" station... HW on that one gets rotated and frozen on a regular basis... And when not under sub-zero temps... It runs on the IFX-14 and a 260 CFM Nidec Servo fan controlled by the homemade PWM controller you see on the breadboard.

And Yes... I know I need to organize the wiring behind the monitors... Just gotta get around to buying the trays for the desk and that mess will be gone.

Just finished the rest of the wiring and fixing the mount, its really dusty now so I'll have to clean it :(

Also I'm still looking for something about the EXACT same size as the box for a Canon camera that is a little more elegant, lol

Is it possible that you are a Corvette fan? lol
As for the mount, why not try a clamp mount type from monoprice.com?

<Ultra Snip!>

Very nice setup! Hey, if you are looking for something that is approximatley (or EXACTLY) the same size as a Canon camera box, you can try something like the housing to a power supply. They are fairly rigid and they would hold things quite nicley. Plus, since they are made out of a type of sheet metal, they may have some magnetic properties - it comes in handy!

If that doesn't work (too small, etc.) you can try building your own small shelf or box and spray painting it to the near-exact color as your desk. I'm currently working on modifying my desk and desktop by giving them new coats of spray paint and varnish.

Please do tell, what kind of flooring is that? I'm about to put down hardwoods/laminate in my new condo and I really really like that grain. The desk as well. Why the oil, and what kind?

Sorry I didn't reply sooner, I've not looked at the thread in ages.

The flooring is just oak laminate, pretty cheap one as well. The oil (danish clear oil iirc) is just to protect the wood from getting marked by glasses and such.

May as well update whils tI'm posting:

:)

It was given to me from a user on another forum, I think they were given away at some sort of convention.

I used to have the little Lian li one but it wore down to being really reflective and useless as a mouse pad.

I like the aquarium. What's it called and what fishes inside?

It's a Fluval edge, no fish at the moment as I only set it up on Thursday. I shall be getting some flame tail guppies, maybe a small loach and some shrimp.

I agree. I was more trying to make sense of avddreamr's claim that a NF200 on a P67 would net performance gains you wouldn't see on a x58, even when using the same PCIe architecture and same # of lanes.

Twisted, I either wasn't clear, or there was miscommunication.

p55/p67 - has 16 lanes that are available for graphics.
x58 - has 36 lanes that are available for graphics.
All lanes are pcie 2.0

I'm aware that hardocp review does not show any benefit on x58, in sli and tri-sli configurations.
However in either quad sli or tri-sli + physx there will be measurable benifits, but that is not a common configuration.

In Lynfield (p55), the problems of pcie bandwith shows up in much more meager configurations.
google "PCIe And CrossFire Scaling: Does Nvidia's NF200 Fix P55?" and it will take you to an article on a website that was founded by some guy named Tom, who isn't exactly chummy with a guy named Kyle (not that tom owns his hardware or has for a very long time but that's besides the point).

Just redid almost everything on my desk. (Cell phone pics)

This one's from my old place:

Here's while I was reinstalling W7 and trying out my $.99 (yes 99 cents) roll-up keyboard:

The (almost) final product. I still need to get some longer cables and a file cabinet for better organization...

There are spaces in the file names. They probably just need to be removed.

Moved stuff around and added some cold cathodes under the monitor shelf. Think it came out pretty nice. Crappy picture is crappy though, I really need to get a new keyboard I've had this g15 since its release and the screen doesnt even work anymore. Its been a good board though and seen MANY hours of gaming >_<

Finally got my speakers running at full speed (replaced a crappy sony amp with the Yamaha RX-V3800).
Also, finally moved back to the green team with a pair of GTX 570's (for 3d vision and just generally a better multi-gpu and multi-monitor experience than red is offering imho).
I also ditched the stand under the second monitor the amp was previously on, primarily because this one doesn't fit. But now that it's gone, I like the cleaner look, and the slight increase of entry/exit room from the seat.

Next I'm looking at getting a slightly bigger sub, and maybe a buttkicker. Also trying to decide if I want to get a 3rd 570, or replace what i have with 3gb 580's (assuming I can find the cash for it). Current system specs in sig.

Your not crazy at all rob. A real mad-man would have done that setup with no minifridge!

One piece of sound advice would be straiten those left and right speakers out a bit. Pointing them directly at you can have a negative effect on the way you perceive the sound field. Try it with them almost strait (~10° angled in).

Also what speakers are you using in the rear? They look like Zu's but I don't think they are.

Well that's fairly ridiculous...
How do you like the obutto? I've been having issues with my right shoulder sitting at my desk for even short amounts of time. Had my eye on the obutto for a while now but can't really afford it. Then again a decent desk chair alone would cost about the same.
