I have $215 in visa gift cards and want to put that towards my first SSD. So i am looking at the 256 C400 over at super biiz. Or should i wait for the240 gig vertex 3 which appears that it will be out next week at least according to ++++. One thing that bugs me about the Vertex 3 is the following from anand:

If you pay attention to the table above you’ll notice that there are two specs for 4KB random write IOPS: burst and sustained. The burst value is for around 15 seconds of operation, the sustained is what happens when the firmware initiated performance cap kicks into action. By default the SF-2100/2200 drives have a cap of 20,000 IOPS for 4KB random writes. After a period of about 15 seconds, the max performance on these drives will drop to 20K. The SF-2500/2600 controllers are uncapped, max performance can remain at up to 60K IOPS.

To me after reading that it seems the c400 is the better all around drive. Any advice is welcome...

I Would get the c400 over the OCZ simply because of OCZ's track record of being complete crap & giving there customers the shaft.

I think I'll wait to see real world benches between OCZ, Corsair, & Crucial. I think I'm leaning towards the Crucial as well.

Get any gen3 SSD for your first one and you'll be happy. The real world experience between each of these drives is going to be splitting hairs. If you require e-peen status then wait for the Vertex3. Otherwise the 510, M4/C400 (when released in quantity), or even a C300 will be great bang for the buck.

This times a million. OCZ is a crap company. Whether or not the Vertex3 may or may not be faster by a small margin is a moot point. They're all already stupid fast. I'd rather have a drive that I know will last longer than a month and is made with parts that aren't shit.

OK, thanks for the advice. I am going to bite on the 256 c400 from superbiiz.

Now my next questions - i see a lot of hostility pointed at OCZ on the various fora. What has OCZ really done to garner such disgust?

what about the track record of the c300 being a pos on intel chipset ? with lockups and freezes? the Sanforce controller has better comatibility the maker of the ssd has little do with it. it is all about the controller on the drive and those marvell controllers suck
i have a gskill ssd and it has been doing fine and is built on the sanforce controller.

Get the C400. The Intel 510 is highly available, but its pretty pricey compared to the competition.
Hopefully that will change once the other SSD's are in stock.
